The
interesting thing here is if Frog/Magus win next round, Shepard/Saren
will be the weakest rivalry in this division, and some people were
afraid it'd win it! There's some wiggle room for Alucard/Dracula to win

Hmm... that got me thinking about which of the "B-Tier" guys do the most or least for their rivalries. Edgeworth Chell Magus Dracula Vamp Giygas Breen Saren I actually don't think Dracula has been adding that much to Alucard. I feel like he'd be winning by a lot more if he did, since he already has a case for being the strongest individual character in this division. Match XLV: (1) Cloud Strife/Sephiroth vs. (4) Kratos/Zeus Previous Round Cloud Strife/Sephiroth – 76.64% Lloyd Irving/Kratos Aurion – 23.36% Kratos/Zeus – 74.12% Professor Layton/Don Paolo – 25.88% Analysis While the performance by Cloud and Sephiroth was disappointing in hindsight I’m not exactly surprised. Anti-votes are going to prevent Cloud and Sephiroth from scoring any blowouts and as much as some people like saying it Lloyd and Kratos Aurion do have some strength. As anti-votes become weaker against stronger opponents Kratos and Zeus could potentially give us a better look at whether Cloud and Sephiroth have a chance at winning this contest. I do wonder what the strength of Kratos is, last contest he didn’t look that good against Tails, but he did fairly well against Charizard, even if you ignore the matches against Bowser and Mario. God of War III has come and gone since then so maybe he’s no longer as strong as his performance on Charizard indicated. Even if he isn’t Kratos does have decent amount of strength and would probably do well against either Cloud or Sephiroth, relatively speaking. Breaking 70% in this match would be a great performance for Cloud and Sephiroth; sadly I feel that there will be enough anti-votes in this match to push Cloud and Sephiroth below that value. Some people feel that there may be some Playstation SFF in this match, but personally I don’t see it having much of an effect. After
Portal 2, both Magus and Frog can lose to GlaDOS individually. If we
assume both of em have gotten weaker after two more years of aging and

I'll
probably take either Frog or Magus to lose against any decent
midcarder. Chrono Trigger isn't getting any younger, these guys are
getting zero new exposure, and they both looked pretty bad last year.
Frog made it out smelling a little less poopy, but he was clearly a
weaker contest entrant than Kefka, and Magus... well yeah. Alucard put
such a beating on him last year that his rivalry managing even 45-46%
next round will mean a healthy rivalry boost. It's sad to admit, but I
think this once formidable duo may be a lot closer to whatever arbitrary

Huh, the Half-Life 2 guys finished ahead of the Mass Effect guys in the stats? Would we legitimately pick Freeman over Shepard, or is that all Saren's doing? Thinking about it a little, it's not too hard to see that it's the latter - in a normal contest environment, Shepard has an entire series to back himself up while Freeman has basically one game, and then there's the Mass Effect series being really really mainstream now while Freeman has not been in a game since 2007. Here however, it's a simple matter of Half-Life 2 vs. Mass Effect 1, and we already know that that would be a 60-40 beatdown for the former. IIRC Breen and Saren both were in the top 30 in IGN's villains countdown, but to my knowledge, even though their games' fans consider them to be amazing villains, they don't see much of a rivalry with their games' heroes. Also last year I watched a YouTube LP of Half-Life 2, and while I'm not 100% sure, the final boss battle seemed to be little more than a matter of shooting photons at Dr. Breen's throne room from a completely different building. I kinda want to say that Freeman/Breen is a rivalry representative of Half-Life 2 itself in the same way the Sonic vs. Eggman rivalry is representative of that whole series, but then I remember that the "real" rivalry in that game is Freeman vs. the Combine (and Dr. Breen is just someone who propagandizes the Combine). I'm sure Half-Life 2 fans will agree. I wanted to do random comparisons of Eggman and Ridley (summary: they're both largely meant to be the rivals of Sonic and Samus, but the Sonic series' plot is centered around Sonic's rivalry with Eggman while Samus's rivalry with Ridley is largely a sideshow in the Metroid series' overarching plot), but meh. Eggman wins that easily. It in fact almost kills me to think that the blue hedgehog's rivalry could be weaker than the blue woman's. --- Currently Playing - StarCraft: Brood War |

Well
it is what the GOTD stats project, although Half-Life 2 is stuck behind
Fallout 3's overperformance against Brawl. Still, I would honestly
take Half-Life 2 over both Metroid Prime and Fallout 3 now (since a new
Metroid and a new Fallout were both released at around the time the GOTD
contest took place, which I suspect is the reason Prime and Fallout 3
got 1 seeds - since then Other M and New Vegas have both fallen off the
map to no end, while Valve is probably in gamers' minds more thanks to
Portal 2). Also I know there were some people who wanted Sonic's rival to be Knuckles or Shadow, but come on. Sonic's rivalry with Eggman spans the entire series (and is the main point of the series too - there's a reason why that series is called "Sonic the Hedgehog"), while Sonic's rivalries with the other two guys are largely simple sideshows in the games that they are "prominent" in. Sonic 3 & Knuckles and Sonic Adventure are the only Sonic games where Sonic's rivalry with Knuckles is really on "full" display, and even then the latter might be pushing it. For some reason, I have this feeling that next round's Alucard/Frog is going to be a classic. Those 2 were always fairly close to eachother, and I think people aren't giving Chell/Glados and Raiden/Vamp enough credit here. --- Game of the decade? More like Guru of the decade mirite? |

I
wouldn't be surprised if Freeman was stronger than Shepard. While he's
a lot stronger with Mass Effect 2 he only got 39% on Pikachu weeks
after ME2. It wouldn't be a stretch to see him weaker now just like
Master Chief post Halo 3 and even then Freeman could have gotten 39% on
Pikachu last year, he got 38% on Tifa (even if you think she's weaker
