The
idea that Cloud and Sephiroth SFF Kratos and Zeus more than they SFF
Lloyd and Kratos Aurion makes no sense for two big reasons: -Shouldn't the FFVII guys have more reason to SFF fellow JRPG characters than they do to SFF action game characters? -We've seen Kratos hold up well against FFVII characters before (although it was in 4-ways...). If Cloud and Sephiroth truly are the beneficiaries of SFF in this match, it only adds more evidence to the "general non-Nintendo casual fanbase" theory of mine. I'll mention that theory again. According to this hypothesis, the following franchises all have at least somewhat noticeable overlap: Final Fantasy Metal Gear Resident Evil Grand Theft Auto Halo Ninja Gaiden God of War Devil May Cry Assassin's Creed I do feel kinda uneasy including Halo here, but Liquid Snake collapsing at sight of Master Chief in 2007 can't be ignored. Perhaps Master Chief was briefly part of this casual fanbase during Halo 3's hype-fest, and has otherwise never been part of this casual fanbase. The other series have all had multiple flops and out-of-nowhere successes against FF, MG, and RE. Very nice by Cloud/Seph here! Link's performance on Ammy still looks better, but you can make the case that Zeus brings a lot more to the table than Orochi. Zeus would probably kill Orochi in a poll based on name recognition alone. And of course Kratos should beat Ammy. So, while Link still looms as the heavy favorite, all hope is not lost. Oddly enough this is probably one of the few matches where a 24 hour match hurts FF7 compared to a night match. People used to keep saying night matches benefited FF7 because of the dead zone dominance, but that was false because of the heavily over-weighted importance of the Power Hour and anti-votes being a higher proportion of the total votes. FF7 is worst in night matches. They are best suited for 24 hour matches, then 12 hour day matches, and they perform worst at 12 hour night matches. However due to Kratos' own anti-votes their Power Hour wasn't bad, and Kratos is more day-oriented. So interestingly this is one match where they would have done better in a 12 hour night match. All the evidence is there. In 2006, Snake went from being the weakest Noble Niner to crushing Sonic and Mega Man, then suddenly collapsing against a more popular Smash-credited character in Samus, who prior to that match had two rounds of being a disaster that made Villains Contest Sephiroth laugh. So much so that Peach either finished equal to or above Luigi in the X-stats, I'm too lazy to check. And then in GotD MGS4 finished pretty much even with MGS2. Edit: Obviously I mean on GameFAQs. comes as no surprise to me, always figured GoW shared the fanbase with
FFVII more than ToS did. People overestimate Rpg SFF and underestimate
Playstation SFF. I mean how many times has there been weirdness

That's
like asking how there can be SFF between Mario and Samus. Main
characters in entirely different series in different genres. The answer
is they share the same console and appeal to a similar fanbase. As do
Metal Gear, God of War, Playstation era Final Fantasy, Littlebigplanet,

Samus and Mario are made by Nintendo and share the same Nintendo fanbase. FFVII is Square RPG and GoW is a Sony Action game. They don't share the same fanbase or even genre. They are not even on the same console. No SFF. --- ... |

I
don't think Kratos would have that easy a time with Lloyd/Kratos
Aurion. Like Ezio, he's an appeal character with a garbage rival
(although yeah, Zeus has to be better than Rodrigo). I don't think he'd lose
to the ToS duo, but I think they'd keep it a lot more respectable than
the 62/38 or worse pounding either would get against Kratos 1v1. Also, Kratos could have simply gotten weaker. In 2010, he was extrapolated through a beastly Charizard and got matches when GoW3 hype was in full swing. the way, this match is making me feel a bit better about Sora/Riku
getting the job done. Here we see two Square RPG guys laying waste to a
primarily design and appeal-powered character. It's a pretty similar

this match just reminds me of how poorly designed this bracket was.
Lloyd/Kratos doing better than expected and Kratos/Zeus doing worse than
expected could have caused some crazy results if they were placed

bracket could had been interesting. Here's a bracket that I made that
kept the seedings the same. The bracket was made before the contest
began so some matches that I thought may be interesting are no longer
interesting. Surprisingly the southwest and northwest divisions only

Has
Gamefaqs demographics change over the years? Like say a previous
character who had strong niche support weakened over the years due to
either their respective fan base leaving the site or the fan base just

Plenty
of characters have fluctuated in strength, but it's hard to say if it's
because of changing site demographics or the characters themselves

Terra/Kefka did really good against a team that can still reach the semifinals, and Vyse has always been weak, and Galcian might be the most obscure character in this contest so it's possible that he made him even weaker. People
claiming Kratos/Zeus aren't getting massively SFF'd on the basis of
non-same series and different consoles are looking at the SFF far too
one dimensionally. Beyond something obvious like Samus, which is a
character that is made by the same company as Mario, look to Nintendo v.
Mega Man matches. Mega Man characters of all sorts get absolutely
destroyed in matches with Link and Mario due to sharing the same systems
for so many years. Also, on that note, we really need to see Mega Man X in a scenario where he doesn't get fed to Link. It's especially a shame in the context of this contest, which we'll never see another version of (thankfully), when he X/Zero easily could've come in 4th given a better bracket placement.
