From: ZFS | #701It's nothing to get worked up over, because it should always be assumed that people are going to try to stick the actual Pokemon into matches with Red or Blue or whoever. It's assumed now, but before the contest far from being assumed, I think if before Bacon's announcement you ran a poll in this topic of whether the Pokemon would be allowed, most people would have gone "Nah, of course Bacon isn't going to do that, this is Red vs. Blue not Zard vs. Blastoise". Bacon's decision was a definite swerve that most of us would not have expected. From: Team Rocket Elite | #753 This is a naive way of thinking. If you had "Navi" as the choice but all the match pics were of Link with Navi very subtly in the background, it would make the poll option of Navi perform vastly stronger, then one of just a large Navi. It's called "leeching" and it's real. Both "name factor" and "pic factor" matter. i.e. if you had Darth Vader but called him "Ani" instead of "Darth Vader" his performance would vary a ton, even with the same exact pic and opponent. From: wg64Z | #853 Haha :) No real offense dude, but this is completely stupid and plain bonkers ^_^ Zero's sword is not stronger than Zero himself, it's just an accessory. The point of having a rivalry contest is to evaluate the rivalry itself - if you have Navi vs. Tingle, then have Nave vs. Tingle. Throwing pics of Link and Fierce Deity Link into their pictures suddenly makes the rivalry being judged *not* Navi vs. Tingle. And yeah honestly the trainers are defined in large part by their Pokemon. It's an iconic part of the character. The fact that Charizard is a past - and powerful - entrant in the contests does muddy the waters a bit, I accept, but it is inextricably linked to Red. |
