DK vs K Rool wins because it was a prominent rivalry a couple of years before Kirby vs MK

There's yet to be any evidence that this is a factor in voting.

Man, Sub-Zero/Scorpion are going to get awfully close to that spread, but they probably can't go up another .6% in the next two hours.

So is 64.5%+ still considered a bad performance here?

I know I had them going pretty high here, but I think I underestimated DK/K. Rool and overestimated Leon/Ada (I think we ALL overestimated Leon/Ada here, which is why that Sub/Scorpion round 1 performance looked so good). Sub-Zero doesn't put up 65% on DK 1-on-1, so in hindsight, this isn't too bad.

I think expecting them to be able to challenge X/Zero was probably unrealistic, but I think they're definitely noticeably stronger together than they are apart

Match XXXVII: (1) Pokemon Trainer Red/Pokemon Trainer Blue (4) Luigi/Waluigi

Previous Round

Pokemon Trainer Red/Pokemon Trainer Blue – 76.92%
Jim Raynor/Sarah Kerrigan – 23.08%

Luigi/Waluigi – 55.28%
Cecil Harvey/Golbez – 44.72%

Analysis

As a person that took Luigi and Waluigi I find it very hard to defend them after what happened in the first round. While Red and Blue had no problem destroying Raynor and Kerrigan last round Luigi and Waluigi were struggling to distant themselves from Cecil and Golbez. Still I feel that people are giving the trainers a bit too much credit and should this match turn out to be a blowout it won’t be because Red and Blue are that strong.

I feel that people are forgetting that Cecil does have some strength based on his performance from last contest. Yes Luigi probably would have defeated Cecil by more than what he and Waluigi got against the pair last round, but at the same time Luigi would probably struggle to break 60% considering that Knuckles only got 52% and Shadow would get 38% on Luigi based on Amaterasu. A match between Cecil and Red should actually be debated, though in reality the board would heavily favour Red when he should only be a slight favourite. I wonder how an Ocelot verses Cecil would turn out in terms of board favourites.

With that said as demonstrated last round Red and Blue due seem to be benefitting from the format and while Raynor and Kerrigan aren’t the best tests the size of the blowout does suggest it to be the case. Waluigi added almost no rivalry strength to the pair and while some people suggest anti-votes I don’t feel that’s the case, Waluigi is just weak. Either way Red and Blue need to use their rivalry power in this match because as I’ve been saying in the past Luigi probably breaks 50% on them by himself.

Red and Blue will probably win, but it won’t be by the amount everyone is expecting. The pair will be using a lot of their rivalry power just to get above 50% here. Of course the possibility for SFF is very real. Not surprisingly many fans have played games from both series which means they are aware of the situation of the rivalry. This could lead to many Luigi and Waluigi fans changing sides and supporting Red and Blue.

charmander6000’s Bracket: Luigi/Waluigi > Pokemon Trainer Red/Pokemon Trainer Blue

charmander6000’s Prediction: Pokemon Trainer Red/Pokemon Trainer Blue wins, 54.84% - 45.16%

Man, votals are getting so low that the halfway point of matches is getting pushed back to around 11:10-11:15 AM, on a school day. That tells you how frontloaded matches are getting. Those numbers would be early for a weekend match, let alone one during the school week, where the midway point can happen after 12.

Upon looking at some numbers it appears:

-My halfway point numbers were based off of 2007, which for whatever had much later midway points that 2009.
-2009 starts off with half-way points in weekday matches that are not too far off from weekend numbers, but does go up halfway through the first round, and many matches do reach their halfway point past 12. I suspect that rolling Spring Breaks were keeping the numbers more balanced up until that point.

Front-loaded? I don't think that's happening at all. In yesterday's match, we had 54.44% of our votes after 12 hours (26653 votes at 12:00 PM). That's perfectly normal for a weekday match. It just shows you that the ASV is a lot weaker today compared to 3 or 4 years ago. During the 2006 Character Battle, we were averaging 45.99% of our votes after the first 12 hours. As of right now, that's been around 54% with our much weaker ASV. And for the weekend matches, it's slightly higher than 54%.

If you want an example of front-loading, check these out:

http://www.gamefaqscontests.com/drupal/node/22?matchnum=4196&num=2
http://www.gamefaqscontests.com/drupal/node/22?matchnum=2926&num=4

In the Link/Santa match, there were already 11091 votes after the first hour. Under normal circumstances, a poll with 11091 after the first hour would normally go on to finish between 112000 and and 120000 votes, but the Link/Santa match finished at just 93248 votes. The Link/Santa match also had 59.15% of the total votes after just 12 hours.

In the ? Block/L-Block bonus match, the vote totals were so ridiculous in the beginning that it looked like it would outdo the previous match and break 200000 votes. It had 19108 votes after the first hour, which would normally put it on track for about 205000 to 215000 votes, but it only finished at 165499 votes.

My definition of front-loading: An unusually high number of votes early on in the match relative to the final vote total. Normally, most polls/matches should have vote totals that are between 10 to 12 times higher than what the poll had at the end of the first hour. If a poll/match finishes with less than 9.5 times more votes compared to the vote total at the end of the first hour, that's a sign of front-loading.

Using Link/Santa as an example, it had 11091 votes at the end of the first hour and 93248 votes overall. Link/Santa finished with only 8.41 times more votes than what it had at the end of the first hour. 8.41 was acquired by doing 93248 / 11091. If Link/Santa wasn't front-loaded at all, the overall ratio between the first hour and final vote totals would have been higher than 9.5.
