Match XXXII: (2) Sora/Riku vs. (7) William Blazkowicz/Adolf Hitler Previous Contest Sora – 2010 63.63% against Midna 67.75% against Laharl 45.30% against Bowser Riku – 2010 62.31% against Ramza Beoulve 47.52% against Captain Falcon William Blazkowicz – N/A N/A Adolf Hitler – N/A N/A Analysis Final match of the contest and with the guru cookie still well intact there is no surprise that a large portion of the board is still perfect. At the end of the round we have our third character that did not arise from video games and most likely the star joke character of the contest. There is no question that Hitler is going to attract some joke voters, but the main question is would it be enough to get the upset. While Kingdom Hearts had a bad contest last time and it isn’t likely that they will perform any better this contest Sora and Riku still have decent strength. Sora may not be near elite any more, but he is still a high mid-carder and Riku is still far from being fodder heck once this contest is all done I wouldn’t be surprised to see them well into the top half of strongest pairs of the contest once taking into account future SFF matches. I feel that a lot of people would have given William and Hitler a better chance had they been given a better position in the bracket. The main issue is obviously that the pair has almost no base strength. While joke votes from other sites do provide a boost for them you still need to have GameFAQs on your side if you want to have decent strength. Even before L-Block was rallied it still showed that it had some strength despite external rallying being minimal and Missingno absolutely destroyed its vote-in poll with minimal support. William and Hitler on the other hand flopped badly in the vote-in, a format where it should over perform due to 12 ways and joke votes to the point where if you removed the votes from the early rallies would put the pair just barely above Katherine and Catherine. The low vote totals are going to be a benefit for William and Hitler and should the rallies start off right at the beginning we could see them take the lead, but eventually they are going to run out of people to find. Based on the performance in the vote-ins which showed his natural strength I see Sora and Riku doubling to breaking 70% on William and Hitler. Even with the lower vote totals we are still talking about 13000 to 15000 rallied votes which I don’t see happening especially when Sora and Riku start surging far ahead. Hardware could be interesting for a 32 mini bracket. On the filtering character ideas I think they're pretty poor. Western games characters are notoriously bad for the most part so I can't see that being too interesting and to separate by decade will probably just lead to boosted showings from the likes of Midna. As we've seen from the Villains and Female bracket the Zelda fans will find someone to channel Link through. I'm ok with a vanilla bracket again personally. I think designing a format around trying to not let Link win is a bad idea. Who knows with Skyward Sword looking to disappoint and the Wii-U drawing skepticism it may not take forever for Link to fall. --- Smurf, the cream of Sonic fanboyism |
It isn't even that hard to make a bracket with Link in it interesting. That'd
be fine with me, I'd much rather the contest kept a credible format
with results based on strength and less on other factors like partners,
significance of a particular theme or 4-way SFF. Will make it all the
more meaningful when somebody finally does beat him, which will happen
someday I guess. Certainly more meaningful than him losing to Hitler
riding a bidoof swinging a buster sword while simultaneously teamed with

Really? I can't even say for sure who would win. I imagine the Top 4 would be the PS1, N64, PS2, SNES, in some order, and then there's a 2nd tier with...GBA? 360? DS? GBC? Gamecube? I'd
be for a console contest if it didn't replace the "big" contest
attraction for that year (CB or Games). With 32 entrants and a 12-hour

PERFECT BATTLERS Dante easily has the third biggest blowout of the round, behind Mario and Link. Assume that Sora/Riku do poorly today and that you remain perfect 16 days from now.
