Like, if I look at the possible chances of an upset coming up, there really aren't many. Round 2- Sonic/Kirby Dante/Sora Round 3- Sub-Zero/X and Scorp? Trainers/Ryu/Ken Alucard and Drac/Frog FF7/Snakes Really, there are probably 3 wild cards in the entire bracket: Trainers, Ryu/Ken and the Ninjas. --- GameFAQs isn't going to be merged in with GameSpot or any other site. What's
been bad about this contest is that this is Villains-contest levels of
boring matches, except without a comedy CATS 2000 votes or a GODDAMN
HAND to help out. And if say, Samus/Bosses/Hadoken/Trainers plays out
like how Snake/Crono did where the stronger halves simply overwhelm the
voting with any possible RIVALRY FACTOR mattering for only 2 or so % at
most (or in Samus vs. any of those three's case, even if it's as much as
8-10%), that quarter becomes boring as hell too. Take out that quarter
of the bracket and the potentially interesting matches drops down to

I wouldn't consider it nothing. I mean no upsets have happened but like ngamer said on the Show, percentages are pretty wild. I'm holding out for some nice mixups later on. |
Contests that I think would be good: Link removed from a character battle with a bracket set so that near-elites aren't wasted against the Big 6 (Mario/Samus/Cloud/Seph/Snake/Mega Man) Link in a character battle with 10-20 non-VG originating characters sprinkled through the bracket (Batman, Gandalf, etc.) 1v1 games contest, no era division, possibly with OoT/FFVII removed --- Praise the Black Turtle, Game of the Decade Guru Champ. (Well, I never promised creativity, did I?!) |

It's
really hard to defend this contest, especially when you compare it to
how awesome GoTD was and how many close matches that had. GoTD's first
round was amazing, and it's later rounds were unpredictable all the way
to the end. From the moment this format was announced, and then when the bracket was released, you could tell it was going to be a bummer. I
personally oppose the idea of having all fictional characters, because I
get the feeling that non-gaming characters will eventually outnumber
the gaming characters and this will eventually turn more into an IMDB
Contest than a GameFAQs Contest. By judging a lot of the characters that
have little with video games (I mean would you vote for Superman based
on his appearance in Superman 64 or his movies/comics?), I feel it would
be strange for GAMEFAQs to be hosting such a thing. Contest ideas that I DO want: 1. Best. Game. Ever. with only Ocarina of Time removed and eras mixed. I know FFVII is ahead of the pack, but I think it's fitting to know how exactly how much ahead it really is, since I think Square has been dropping for a while now. After MM winning last year and Pokemon RBY killing MM in the 2009 contest, I especially want to see RBY vs FFVII. Another match that I want to see is MM vs ALttP, since ALttP has been aging and MM seems to be getting popular every year. 2. Best. Western. Game. Ever. We know that Japanese games dominate on this site, so I think this can have quite a lot of potential. We have no idea what the strongest western game (possibly Fallout 3?) on the site is, so it's a good chance to find out. 3. Best. Console. Ever. There aren't that many consoles to have a large tournament, but it should still be different nonetheless. 4. Best. Partners. Ever./Best. Team. Ever. or something with Link removed. Basically any weird spinoff of the traditional Best. Character. Ever. that adds some uncertainty. The Rivalry Rumble (at least I thought) was a great idea and had a ton of potential. like the Best Western Game. That would be nice. But I guess we would
have to have a Best Eastern Game at some point too to be fair to our

characters appearing in a game is clearly the best idea that hasn't

#3 would be an ok idea, but 16 might be a bit too few and 32 would be way too many. It's not good for an interesting tournament. If you include Handhelds I think we're getting to having 25 or so good entries. Having a few fodder entries won't be too bad. Character of the Decade anyone? I mentioned it before, but I got no response. Sora vs Kratos finals? Auron and Dante will be too old in a few months. Nintendo wins. Hard to get interest for this one imo. A format without Nintendo or Square dominance is asking for too much. The top entries in just about any format will be Nintendo and Square. Limiting characters to post-2000 only could see votals that make Pac-Man/Crash look like a popular match! I think a 32 entry Console contest could be a lot of fun. It'd be a brief contest that would generate a fair degree of interest. I wouldn't want to see it ran till after the next "main" contest though - otherwise we'll be approaching two years without an ordinary character battle. Best generic enemy contest? It would probably lead to a Goomba-Koopa final, but it would still be interesting. |
How about characters by the decade they were introduced? You could have four divisions: 80s (and earlier) 90s 00s 10s That way most of the best characters would face each other in the first two brackets, leaving a lot of uncertainty in the final two. Especially the more recent one, since it force people to nominate a bunch of newcomers. |
I'd
love to see a mini System contest. Any contest in which i can watch Wii
getting Humuliated by the Game Gear would be hilarious. It will shut up
all the nintendo fanboys who think wii would win a populairty poll for

I also support Best Gaming Platform Ever as the best idea that hasn't been done yet. 5 Nintendo consoles 5 Nintendo handhelds 5 Playstation entries (by this time next year at least) 2 Xboxes 7 Sega entries (counting add-ons) That's 24 right there.
