I severely doubt that showing Ness in a smash render would make any difference. Remember, this is not Solid Snake. Pic factor only works when a good amount of votes come from a cool design, and it primarily only affects 'badass' characters, like Snake, Altair, Ryu Hayabusa ect. Do you really think that Ness is going to change much, if at all?

Weren't you arguing earlier in the contest that Red getting an unrecognizable picture last year hurt him?

Ness had a night match against Big Daddy.
...And? Big Daddy is actually better during the day than at night. He has a very good day vote, according to 2008 trends.

So you're saying that Ness overperformed due to a place where he was getting almost doubled being more important than normal while the place he was almost winning the less important than normal?

Well, GlaDOS's number is derived through Sonic, who got the Hylian Hammer laid down on him by Link, if you recall. Her number is probably fairly accurate.

Day/night matches don't shift overall x-stats by too much unless a character is extremely day or night oriented. Neither Ness or GlaDOS have extreme trends.

No, I'm saying a day match doesn't necessarily help him as much as you seem to be implying. If Ness does better during the day, it's not by a significant margin.

Ah, come on, people are debating whether Ness has a shot against GlaDOS?

Given that Portal 2 was the Game of the Year for most of the year and Steam has only risen in popularity, thanks in part to its free giveaway of Portal, I'd say a great character like GlaDOS can only keep on rising in popularity.

Also, I don't see why people think Chell's an anchor for that relationship. Chell's nothing more than a stand-in for the player. Not the most recognizable stand-in, but GlaDOS is still the heart and soul of that rivalry, and that's what matters.

Considering that Ness would've wrecked GlaDOS last year, the question is an easy one to ask. How much do you think GlaDOS has boosted?

I'm really not sure about "wrecked." Maybe like 55/45 or something? I honestly think Kirby could have given Tifa one hell of a fight (if not won) in 2010, and going by GlaDOS's performance against Kirby and Ness's performance in the Tifa/Daddy trio, I don't think they're that far apart.

I doubt Ness would 60/40 GlaDOS like the stats suggest since that puts him pretty close to Rikku, but in 2010 Ness should win without too much trouble.

This is how I feel. I think a case can be made that Glados is one of the most personally-felt rivalries in the entire bracket.

This is significant, because Smash is weak in Europe and Earthbound was never released there. I don't really trust Ness in a night match against Chell/GlaDOS.

I really hope by a whole lot. Portal 2 was a big hit and GlaDOS dominated the storyline for that game. And more people continue to download the first one as well. Hell, I didn't download the first game till earlier in the year.

On another note, looking back at CBVIII's stats, I agree that it's hard to definitively say who would have won between Ness and GlaDOS back then.

If you take Kirby over Tifa and claim Tifa overperformed on Sephiroth, you'd better be ready to take Sonic over Sephiroth (and thus Bacondorf over Vincent)!

The X-Stats from 2010 are worthless (I have no idea if they have been "adjusted" or not). It takes little more than common sense to realize everyone in the bottom half was inflated. Daddy has a good performance on Tifa (day match) - and I'm willing to count that as legitimate - but then Tifa scores 45% on Sephiroth. Then Sephiroth loses to Snake although still scores a high enough percentage to look great in the final stats, as Snake overperformed on Cloud, who may have even overperformed on Link. GlaDOS is stat'd through Sonic, who got fed to the Link meat grinder.

Heck, what do the stats say about Kirby/Ness? Probably a lot closer than anyone here would dare to take, even before SFF.

Kirby (2010c) VS Ness (2010c)

Kirby has a strength of 33.19.
Ness has a strength of 27.34.

Kirby wins with 58.81% of the vote!
A win of 10,956 with 62,160 total votes cast.

Are we really saying Kirby fails to break 60%?

And those suggest a 59/41 Kirby win, which means Kirby vs. Big Daddy would be a 55/45 or thereabouts. Seriously? As you said, those are adjusted X-Stats - the raw stats show Kirby and Ness as nearly equal. There's a reason we hardly use X-Stats and haven't for years - instead favoring to analyze the actual matches individually. Big Daddy beat Ness 55/45. Just knowing what I know about the fanbases and games, and seeing what both characters have done in the contest, I don't think he would beat GlaDOS much worse than that. Also, Chell would easily beat Giygas in a poll. I'd bet actual money on that, since some people here seem to think it very unlikely.

In the night vote, only the continents dictate the trends. I've never seen a night vote equivalent to the ASV in any match so far. There aren't any known games/characters that do better at night because of the late night North American voters. Even if that did exist, they would do little damage to the overall trends because their influence is heavily diluted because of Europe's dominance at night.

I'm not entirely sure on Crono. We haven't seen Crono in a night match prior to the introduction of being able to see Geolocation results while a poll is still running at the moment. Last time we saw Crono was in a day match and we last saw Chrono Trigger on a match back when it wasn't possible to view Geolocation results until after the poll ended.
