just looked back at the updates for this match and noticed there were
only 503 votes at the freeze. That's downright terrible. Most
non-contest polls have more than 503 votes at the freeze, so I blame the

These
vote totals are terrible today. This match is already about 2000 votes
behind X/Zero (a Saturday match) and X/Zero finished at 28286 votes. I
don't think you can blame the lack of a match picture when this match
started, because vote totals have consistently remained terrible even

...well, both the IWBTG and Super Meat Boy duos overperformed this contest! To be fair, I don't think Samus disappointed too much against the Kid's pair and I have her making the semifinals...although I do not think Samus will make the semifinals anymore seeing how Ryu and Ken absolutely blew away their opponents. Like I said, I honestly don't have much of a clue on how people view these fighting game rivalries so fondly (and I need more of a reason than "nostalgia"), and in fact I would've picked Leon > Sub-Zero had it not been for me picking Tidus > Sub-Zero last year and finding out that that was a bad idea. Match XX: (2) Mega Man/Dr. Wily vs. (7) Banjo/Gruntilda Previous Contest Mega Man – 2010 63.04% against Cid Highwind 61.66% against Zack Fair 72.15% against Ryu Hayabusa 41.62% against Mario Dr. Wily – Villains 2005 64.03% against Ultros 45.49% against Revolver Ocelot Banjo – 2010 24.91% against Pikachu Gruntilda – N/A N/A Analysis Mega Man can’t catch a break anymore, in 2008 he had Zero siphon enough votes to lose to a cube, last contest he was placed against Mario and now he’s on a direct collision course against Link. One thing I’m happy about this contest is that several villains from the villains contest have been able to make a return and while we won’t have an idea on their strength it is nice to see them again. All we need now is to get M. Bison back into a contest. I’ve always felt that Banjo was stronger, as in better fodder than he is now than what his performance shows, but sadly he seems to get stuck against Nintendo opponents and while he isn’t Nintendo many of his fans are Nintendo fans. Personally I feel Mega Man and Dr. Wily are Nintendo enough to hold Banjo down just like how Mega Man and Captain Olimar did in 2008. In the vote-ins Banjo and Gruntilda were able to impress, but 12-ways do produce some crazy numbers and the pair were the only thing close to Nintendo in that poll. While a lot of people feel that Proto Man would be a better partner for Mega Man in the long run it isn’t going to matter as they have no chance at winning in round 3 and there is no chance of them losing before round 3, heck Mega Man himself could probably reach round 3 without too much trouble. It’ll be interesting to see if the voters treat Mega Man any differently this year considering several of his fans are mad at Capcom. Mega Man and Dr. Wily are going to be the next case of blowout syndrome. Maybe the next division will be interesting, especially considering that a lot of the differences of brackets in the guru happen in that division.
