Match XIII: (1) Samus Aran/Ridley vs. (8) The Kid/The Guy Previous Contest Samus Aran – 2010 78.69% against Prince of Persia 67.52% against Jill Valentine 67.31% against Sub-Zero 63.85% against Zelda 47.19% against Cloud Strife Ridley – 2010 28.28% against Cloud Strife The Kid – N/A N/A The Guy – N/A N/A Analysis If there’s one character that has been getting a lot of heat for potentially losing early from this format it is Samus. Meanwhile The Kid and The Guy received enough joke nominations and support to reach and survive the vote-ins. Depending on the amount of joke votes we could see Samus have an underperformance in this match. In the vote-ins The Kid and The Guy didn’t perform that well losing to Laharl and Mid-Boss in a format where joke votes should perform well. I think the main problem is the joke does not have the wide spectrum of knowledge to the point where people not only not get the joke they have never even heard of the game. Personally I’m not expecting a lot out of these guys. As the contest went on and we saw firsthand of the power of rivalry factor people kept making predictions that Samus and Ridley may lose before the semi-finals. Unlike some entrants I feel that Samus and Ridley is a decent rivalry and while it may not be as highly regarded as other rivalries given Samus’ natural strength I feel that she will be fine or at the very least we shouldn’t worry until Samus gives us a reason to worry. If joke voters come out in full force for this match Samus and Ridley will probably drop below 80%, but I don’t feel that will be the case. Samus/Ridley has anything like the power of Samus they should push 90%
here. The Kid vs. The Guy may have done comparably to the Earthworm Jim
team but any hardcore appeal will have problems translating to a more
general poll. I don't think they are actually as strong as Earthworm
Jim, whatever the vote-in implies. That I'm not sold on Samus vs. Ridley is the only reason I think she might somehow fail to break 85%. Because really, this has every reason to be an epic level slaughter other than the standout factor of the picture and the comic names (which I think will probably lead to more apathy than joke appeal). Does anyone know if the battle leaderboard is correct now? It seems like there is a slightly low number of perfect brackets in the battle challenge, but that may just be since it is less popular. |
