ITT: People claim ownage when a team quadruples turbofodder.
This is the best start the Trainers could have realistically gotten, and they haven't even had time to build momentum or get Charizard/Blastoise on board. If you have Pokemon in the final four, you should be rightly excited.

I don't expect them to get that far :P

Hate to burst that bubble, but we haven't even seen Square yet. Nintendo has been doing pretty darn well (especially if you count X/Zero). One match against Guybrush isn't enough to sell me.

It's certainly still very debatable, but I wanted to convey excitement. Besides, I've never missed Link/Cloud before, and I'd rather not start now.

I have Red/Blue making to the finals then losing to Link. My reasoning for that is that I based my bracket on Rocky 1, which means they have to go the distance but lose in the end.

Ryu/Ken should own some faces in their match, too. Ratchet/Nefarious will be pretty weak. I'd be surprised if Ryu/Ken didn't at least triple them.

Well hey, it's been my favorite series since childhood. One of the last things my grandpa did before falling to cancer was gift me RBY for my birthday. Pikachu is my favorite character, I have a Pika plushy on my bed, and I'm not afraid to admit it!!

It isn't about rivalry factor, it's more how only about 12% of gurus think Cloud/Sephiroth (2 top 5 characters) can handle the number 1 (since everyone knows Ganondorf is bringing almost nothing to the match)

Link isn't out until he's out. At least give him a match to show what he can do.

Since I am sure most people now understand what is about to happen. (Trainers to the Final Four/Championship) I would like to take us back a few years ago for the doubters. (Cause Ryu Ken, Samus, and possibly even Mario are ****ed right now).

I remember before Best Game Ever 2, that I trumpeted that RBY would easily be the #5 game on this site, because of the age the site had. Most of that topic laughed at that and said it would not even be top 10. Course, I will admit, I was wrong, it was not 5, it was #3 after the 2 god games.

The point being, these guys are going to relentlessly massacre most of the bracket, because to many MANY people, Pokemon simply is Red vs Blue/Ash vs Gary. When you put the Pokemon in the pics, it even increases the nostalgia bomb.

These guys are going to run roughshod now. Ryu Ken are getting drilled. Like

Acting like Cloud/Seph have no chance after this is really weird. They only need to improve on Link/Cloud solo by 3-4 points to win, and with rivalries mattering so much that's far from impossible. If I could switch my bracket around I'd go for it, though probably with Mario/Bowser winning the whole thing. I'm also a little worried about the Snakes having a chance against Cloud/Seph - it doesn't seem like carrying some Liquid will do much damage.

I think Cloud/Sephiroth could have stood to have a bit more support as well but considering Link's record I don't think it's too strange from him to be the favourite. I think people may still be feeling burned from siding against Zelda and not giving Majora's mask a chance in GotD.

Link vs Ganondorf is a more older, established rivalry. Cloud vs Sephiroth is only in one game and Cloud already has several rivals in that game (Rufus, Zack, Reno, Vayne etc) which dilutes his rivalry with Sephiroth. Link vs Ganondorf might win more than they usually do.

I'm starting to wish I'd taken Cloud/Seph, tbh. I made my bracket assuming rivalries would matter, but I didn't realize that they were going to have such a massive swingy effect on characters' usual performances.

This match doesn't prove anything. Raynor has never been in a match, Kerrigan should be a lot stronger than him, and she was destroyed by Vincent. There is really nothing to gauge from this match at all aside from Red/Blue not being weak. Remember when Ada Wong got something close to 80% on some chick from one of the Tales games?

I'm going to keep thinking Link's got this until we see Link/Ganondorf and Cloud/Sephiroth in action. The Link/Ganondorf rivalry factor isn't as strong IMO, but Ganondorf is not a complete waste of space, and they've got Skyward Sword.

Nail, head. I will admit that this first week of results is threatening to Link. This is probably the best chance for someone to topple him until we finally throw the fictionals in the mix. That said, it's easy to see why he'd be such an overwhelming favorite. Apart from the entire internet pushing L-Block to victory, Zelda has won EVERYTHING on this site for six years. It's won when it was supposed to win. It's won when it was the underdog. It's won when it had no plausible way to win. Now half the board is supposed to side against that while Skyward Sword is coming out? Of course Link was gonna be a huge favorite.
