don't see the hype behind Red/Blue, at least as it pertains to the
match against Ryu/Ken. I didn't buy Red being any kind of force on his
own, and there's no way I believe, that together with Blue, they
approach the level of Ryu/Ken in 'rival' terms -- which is one of the
top 3 most classic game rivalries of all-time. --- peace comes from within |

I'm glad I took the "rivalries will matter" route when I filled out my bracket. I made a last-second change from Alucard/Dracula to Frog/Magus in the southwest division. Concerning Red/Blue, I think a lot of people want to attribute RBY's strength to Red/Blue. Of course, we saw Red get 40-60 by MMX last year, and Ryu is about the same strength as MMX. Which means that the Red/Blue rivalry is going to have to be significantly stronger than Ryu/Ken's rivalry to pull out the win. And the fact is, the trainers just aren't as strong as the pokemon. Red
is a similar strength to Ryu? I've definitely never had that
impression; that's a 1v1 I wouldn't have too much trouble in picking the

The
hope for Red/Blue backers is that they build the momentum that Pokemon
has in the past, that they get strong Pokemon in their match pics, that
they essentially function as avatars for the Pokemon/whole series, and
that they force voters to reminisce about RBY. All of these things in
tandem can make them quite the force. That's the way I approach it, anyway. And no, it's not near Ryu/Ken in terms of iconic rivalries, but... only like two or three rivalries in gaming are. think the most you expect in Luigi vs. Cecil is that Cecil will end up
with a much higher percentage than previous thought. I don't think
people will consider Cecil/Golbez that much better of a rivalry than

Tough to say just how bad Waluigi is. It's a clearer rivalry than something like Leon/Ada and he's not as obscure as Rodrigo. I have Luigi winning but I'll be voting against my bracket for my favorites. I'm not totally confident I made the right choice (even though I've been 100% right so far, I just didn't think DK/KRool and Sub/Scorp would dominate these matches). --- :> |

I went with Luigi, but I'm voting for Cecil. I don't think
Cecil/Golbez, as a rivalry, is all that significant to many voters, so
the fact that rivalries are proving to be important shouldn't change too
much. I won't be surprised if Luigi gets some really low percentage,

also need to consider that Luigi and Waluigi are the first and third
strongest characters in the poll while in the last two matches
Ezio/Rodrigo and Leon/Ada were the first and fourth strongest (though

don't know anything about the Cecil/Golbez rivalry but I don't see
Luigi/Waluigi as being that strong. Has Waluigi even been in a proper

problem is that everyone on Board 8 went with Mario/Sonic, so the

Maybe
not this bad, but I imagine the Snakes will put a big hurt on
Crono/Lavos. The former are stronger, more popular, characters
individually, and then on top of that they have a much better rivalry.
That was always a pretty unfair match, maybe Crono can get some sprites

From: Greyfeld | #141 I still think Luigi/Waluigi will win. Golbez is pretty bad. I mean, Bartz/Gilgamesh could only get 64% on Guybrush/LeChuck for cryin' out loud. I know Cecil/Golbez would do better than that, but I think it'll be a pretty weak pairing. Luigi/Waluigi is one of the more intriguing pairings in the contest with the rivalry factor taken into consideration. --- "Why must we always choose between certain death and probable death?" feels difficult to pick against Sub/Scorpion considering they're
equaling with Sonic/Robotnik got on the 'atherines. I suppose it's
