Wow, 58% in Europe and 65% in Asia for Ezio. DK is gonna bleed a lot over night.. it may even get under 60%.

If Kirby/Meta Knight is any indication, it almost certainly will.

Based on the amount he's dropping right now we could be seeing another Kirby/Jill situation.

I doubt that he'll stall for any length of time, he may get cuts here and there, but DK should gain (albeit at a slower rate) until the end of the poll.

How are you guys viewing Europe votals?

With MATHS!

80 votes is the minimum split that could give that %age. Ditto 93. It could also be any multiple of those as well.

#375 | -LusterSoldier- | Posted 11/5/2011 9:55:00 PM | message detail
It becomes a lot more difficult when dealing with a huge number of votes from one region. Kind of why it would be very difficult to calculate the number of votes from California, but doing Wyoming would be very easy.

This also gives you a rough idea of how many votes are from Europe as the poll progresses:

https://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=0AgBWiYjlMLwYdHpEYmJDdktneHBQQXNoVXdLcUY3cEE

The vote totals in that poll are a lot higher than today's match, but it's the percentages that really matter here. Although this match started one hour earlier in Europe, there isn't much difference between Europe's performance between 11:00 PM-12:00 AM and 12:00 AM-1:00 AM.

DKC:R would have boosted DK's strength a little, but I think this has more to do with Ezio sucking than DK looking stronger.

Ezio has a crappy rivalry, weird looking name, and for more casual voters he might not be instantly recognizable in his pic (I think a front on view might have helped him quite a bit).

I'm starting to wonder a bit more about Siegfried/Ramza.

Riku actually faced both protagonists in 2008 and 2010. How much stock you want to put in his 4way match with Siegfried is up to you, but Riku got 62% on both guys. One would think Nightmare would make a better back-up than whoever this Delita is, but I wouldn't know for sure. Ramza's side also has RPG factor during a contest where RPGFAQs may shine a little brighter.

I'm thankful it's a day match, anyway.

This is one of the few cases where I really do think rivalry factor matters. Even a good number of people who beat every AC probably have no idea/forgot who Rodrigo is. The pairings hurting Ezio considerably.

whoever this Delita is

Reading this literally made me sad.

Nightmare is stronger than Siegfried, for the record.

But Ramza lost to Hogger and nearly lost to Laharl, and Delita's going to be worse than that.

And yet that match makes me nervous. I can't put my finger on it.

Delita has the best hairstyle in the FF series.

When my hair was longer, I would comb my hair straight back after getting out of the shower to look like Delita.

Yeah, I think Ezio would win this 1v1. But I made this same argument weeks ago. Even as somebody who's played the three main AC games, I was like, "Who the hell is Rodrigo??"

Of course, i had my doubts about this match before the contest started, but after we saw X/Zero pull 81%, and Bartz/Gilgamesh nearly double anything, it became pretty clear that the rivalry was going to give DK a serious boost.

Bracket-voting playing a bigger role?

15K brackets, we assume most of these guys are voting and voting for their choice. And this is out of 30-40K votes? No coincidence that nearly every match so far has seemed more of a killing than expected for the victor, as well as the fact we haven't had a match where at least 60% of the site didn't predict correctly?

This is a scary thought. However, I know that even though I make a bracket, I always vote for my favorite rather than what my bracket says, so I'd guess there are a good number of bracket-makers that do that as well. (That subsection is probaly the minority though)
#397 | pjbasis | Posted 11/6/2011 12:13:06 AM | message detail
Nah, no one actually thinks their one vote is gonna sway anything.

There will be some, but not nearly most.
#398 | PartOfYourWorld | Posted 11/6/2011 12:14:39 AM | message detail
There may be fewer votals, but there are also fewer brackets. I don't think it'll make a notable difference, especially since bracket voting should (theoretically) taper off the further we get into a contest, and because a result will have to be pretty close (closer than any of these matches have been) for it to even matter.

I'm just pointing out possible trends. I don't need to be defensive; I get my fill of that behavior from plenty of folks around here.

In any case, I know the number of submitted brackets has also declined but do we have a good estimate year by year of the ratio of brackets to average votals? Also important would be how many "for fun" brackets exist; does the 15552 from this year also include those?
