http://gamrreview.vgchartz.com/sales-data/24780/shin-megami-tensei-persona-4/

I was going by this, which puts NA sales at 350k. It sold 110k in NA in 2 weeks.

That has to be way off. The 110,000 in 8 months number comes from an Atlas financial report and should be accurate.

Well, 110k sounds waaay too low to me, given the popularity Persona 4 has seen over the internet. It wouldn't surprise me if the Giantbomb Endurance run itself had more hits than that.

As for why Sonic isn't winning the ASV against a niche Atlus title, I provided an explanation earlier on why I think Sonic's ASV has probably tanked in recent years.

I think we're trying to figure out whether he should have be getting 80%, and why he's not winning the ASV against a niche Atlus title.

There's nothing wrong with Sonic not getting a quadrupling, which is exactly what I'm saying. Sonic/Robotnik isn't a top tier rivalry in this contest.

And Sonic's never been strong with the ASV because he gets a large chunk of his popularity from Europe.

There's nothing surprising from this match.

I still wouldn't count Kirby/Meta Knight out...honestly, I feel a little more worried for my bracket now than previously. They got 58.5% on a opponent that is much stronger. Granted, Jill/Nemesis had an awful pic, but it's still impressive to pull that off overnight. I can't help but think that their weren't enough users on this site who grew up on the Genesis to confidently say Sonic/Robotnik will win it handily. Meta Knight is just awesome. I can't say how strong team Catherine, since I don't know anything about the game, but I have difficulty seeing Kirby/MK getting less than 70% on them.

Except his opponent is doing better in Europe... and is from a niche anime game. Those types of games are notorious for their awful ASVs.

They probably wouldn't.

Nobody's saying Sonic/Robotnik is going to double Kirby/Meta Knight, just that they'll probably win without much trouble.

Also, how someone is doing right now in a certain area doesn't indicate how they're going to do later in that same area, so that's pretty poor reasoning for saying why Sonic should be doing better because Catherine's doing better in Europe right now.

But this point was brought up to you several times during GOTD, so you should know better by now.

Catherine is just not that weak guys, and Sonic not that strong. Still stronger than Kirby though.

I forgot that the poll is far from over, too. Sonic/Robotnik could still rise significantly. Still, my point is that if (huge if!) team Catharine is an absolute joke, Kirby will take the win next round. We saw Luigi got 74% on fodder compared to Squall's 60% on Jill, and everyone assumed Ratchet couldn't be THAT bad.... well, he was that bad, and Luigi got flattened by Squall the next round.

I want Kirby to win next round so badly. :[

So basically you're positive that Catherine is strong enough to ensure that the match is in the bag? Remember how team Banjo beat eam Yuna in the vote-ins? I imagine the actual result would be a doubling in Yuna's favor. Which means Big Boss/The Boss could very well triple Catherine/Katherine in a one-on-one setting, for all we know. It is true that they did well in the poll, tying team Lloyd and team Arthas, however, which makes an additional argument favoring they're a complete joke.

Plus, what if Jill/Nemesis was stronger than we all suppose?

I'm probably making several of you angry now, but my goal is to make everyone wonder rather than just saying "Sonic has it in the bag. End of story." =P

I'd actually feel pretty good about Link against Batman. Batman just doesn't strike me as the kind of character that can take down our site #1......as strange as this may sound, he's too niche- not in his appeal to a large demographic, but as a kind of character.

Batman...niche? O_o Batman is like the most universally appealing character around. That's like calling Mario niche. I don't get it?

From: red sox
He's not a true hero, which is the same problem Snake has. It just feels incongruous for anyone who's not a true hero to beat Link.

Batman would own Snake and Snake isn't too far from Link as it is. He's like uber-Snake.

Also not quite sure what you mean by 'true hero'. Batman is probably the most popular 20th century fictional hero in the US.

From: KamikazePotato
Tyrion>Jaime

Tyrion is great (albeit pretty unlikable in the latest book...the brothers seem to be, intentionally by Martin I think, having opposite paths of likability) but Jaime is still cooler.

If non-fiction characters are allowed, at least it will be something different.

I can't really think of too many non-fictional characters who'd have any strength. Most would be jokes or fodder. Can anyone think of a non-fictional character who'd be above midcard?

God what I would give for a legit SOIAF RPG. And not this crap they're pushing out, I mean the real deal. Like Bethesda would have made before they backed out of getting the rights.

^_^

What do you mean by crap they're pushing out - are they making an ASOIAF video game? And Bethesda considered making one! Wow. That would've ruled the universe. ...hell, ruled the multiverse for that matter.

From: Leonhart
Worst rivalry in the contest is Ramza/Delita

Because it's the furthest thing from a rivalry out of any of the pairings in the contest

Final Fantasy Tactics SPOILERS:

Really? I'm with everybody else, I think they're definitely rivals - haven't played the game in ages but as far as I recall, Delita exploits the crap out of everyone, and probably the only person he exploits worse than Ramza is Ovelia. And it's a pretty tragic rivalry. There are very few video game antagonists (or pseudo-antagonist in this case) who successfully screw over the hero so badly.

End SPOILERS

---

I'm nervous about my Trainers>Luigi pick now...I picked the Trainers because they were heavily favored and I figure Waluigi adds nothing (might even attract anti-votes), but I think Luigi is significantly than the Trainers. Now the Trainers very easily have the better rivalry but I'm not sure they can make up the gap, plus Luigi is higher on the Nintendo totem pole so he might get SFF. I think I'd consider switching that pick if I could.

Note that I never really got the Trainers vs. Ryu/Ken debate. I'd be pretty surprised if the Trainers could keep it all the close there. Regardless of the Pokemon being in the pics, I don't see that match as competitive.

Batman is probably the most popular 20th century fictional hero in the US.

Amongst young men maybe. Superman is probably more popular overall, and Harry Potter is probably most popular amongst people age 15-30. I mean we have a very limited fanbase here on GameFAQS, but I'm not sure that Batman is the most popular overall on a national scale.

Absolutely no way Superman is more popular, there's a reason Batman movies make gazillions more than Superman movies, and why his comics have always been the best selling comics. And this is coming from a Superman fanboy who borderline hated Batman until the Nolan movies. As a youth I always greatly resented Batman for being so much more popular than Superman, who I considered the superior character. Batman is easily more popular than Superman and that's just a fact, and has been since the 80's.

And I really doubt there is any male demographic amongst which Harry Potter the franchise is more popular commercially than Batman the franchise in the US. Let alone the characters, where Batman has vastly greater appeal, and the difference in pure individual character appeal will be much larger than the difference in franchise commercial appeal.

I could however see Harry Potter being more popular than Batman amongst female US demographics. But almost definitely not among any segment of males.

Regarding the whole "fictional characters who could beat Link" thing... I can't think of too many, aside from those already mentioned. Darth Vader and Han Solo would probably win, and Homer Simpson, Indiana Jones and Cap'n Jack Sparrow could potentially do it as well.

In a perfect world, though, Michael Bluth and Archie Bunker would 80-20 every single Noble Nine character. If only. :(
