But it could end up being a lot less than what some expected, and Red/Blue's might be a lot bigger than expected, based on arguments made pre-contest and somewhat supported by this poll.
It could.

But it could end up being MORE

Ryu/Ken to the semifinals or bust

lol I have Ryu/Ken to the semi's too. My only concern is getting past Samus.

Or, in my case, getting past the Bosses >.>
See, the problem with that is Samus/Ridley is one of the more iconic rivalries in the bracket. Not as iconic as Ryu/Ken, but certainly moreso than the majority of entrants.

Maybe, but I wasn't sure. I've never actually played a Metroid game, and I've seen a lot of people on here say that Ridley didn't do much for Samus. In the end, it might be some lost points to have the Bosses go to the quarter finals, but I was always going to hinge my bracket on having Ryu/Ken to the semis.
I still think the whole "Ridley will drag Smaus down!!!!!!!11111111111" crap is way overblown. He won't hurt Samus any worse than Liquid/Robotnik/Wily/Lavos hurt their counterparts.

Yeah, my picks didn't have to do so much with Samus being dragged down (Samus is strong enough that she could go solo against most of the rivalries in this contest and still win), so much as hoping that the rivalries in question would see a super-boost for the anchor characters.

Well, maybe he would have if he had needed to.

But here's the thing: He never needed to.

Because they never opposed each other.

I don't think you know history very well. The Rockerfellers and the Rothchilds are rivals even if they aren't outright trying to kill each other (yet).

I know my FFT, and Ramza/Delita aren't rivals. I'm aware there's more to a rivalry than fighting, but they're still not rivals.

It could be that Nemesis sucks. He has decent numbers from 2005, but that was 6 years ago after all.

Hopefully MvC3 and Operation Racoon City helps boost his popularity again. The most nastiest of the tyrants in RE universe. Re3 was fantastic mainly because of Nemesis.

Yes, this makes Ramza/Delita foils.

It doesn't make them rivals.

I think Bacon was trying to be pretty general in what was allowed in the contest, despite that the contest specifically used the term Rivalry. So philosophical differences of opinion or whatever you want to label the relationship between Ramza and Delita was acceptable.

Well, what Bacon considers a "rivalry" doesn't necessarily fall within what I (and a lot of people) consider to be a rivalry, so that's neither here nor there!

It's possible that this contest turns so boring and bad by the time the Trainers face Luigi, SBAllen will be desperate for some Pokemon on the front page, stirring things up.

The more I thought about it, the more confident I felt in Red/Blue even without Charizard occupying any real estate. Waluigi is a nothing, and if people really do think about the strongest games when considering a rivalry, then he might actively detract from his team (and could be one of the few in the bracket who'd manage such a feat). It's not like people will look at Waluigi and think OH MAN SUPER MARIO 64, NOSTALGIA.

No, but it makes me wonder why you wouldn't just buckle down and plow through it for at least a little longer, since you've tried 3-4 times. The first two fights are relatively dull because you only control Ramza in the first, and the second is a trash-tier Squire-Chemist fest. Once your party becomes a little more developed there are some quality battles and it's video game decision-making at its finest.

That's what I'll do, but Waluigi's strongest game is Brawl (good lord this is the strongest game for half the field), and NO ONE is gonna think about Brawl in this case, unless it's Brawl's version of the Trainer. The rest of his catalog, sadly, isn't worth a can of beans on this site, and his presence may indeed keep people from associating Luigi with some of his more awesome games.

Yeah. Waluigi is like that weird uncle everyone has. He's technically allowed to all the family gatherings, but it's more of an obligatory thing than having any real relationship with him. Waluigi is there when Nintendo needs to fill up slots for sports games, but that's about it.

I've played through long enough to get like 5-6 fights in, but I always get bored. I always feel the need to go back to previous fights and grind a bit, because I'm struggling with the current story fights (and I want to unlock other classes before continuing with the storyline). And as much as I'm all for something other than your typical "save the world from destruction" fare served up by the majority of the FF series, the story in FFT tends to make me feel like I want to go to sleep.

In a 1v1 match, imo Blue would absolutely crush Red. This is key to predicting their strength. The rival battles are some of the most memorable parts of the game, and Blue as a character has TONS of personality, especially for a Gameboy era game. People might not care about Red, but they sure as heck aren't going to forget SMELL YA LATER! if they've played RBY before.

I always feel the need to go back to previous fights and grind a bit, because I'm struggling with the current story fights (and I want to unlock other classes before continuing with the storyline)

This is problematic because enemies in story missions don't scale with you, either in levels or the depth of their abilities. Then it's boring as you steamroll through them. Good rule of thumb for the first playthrough is avoid all grinding, and hold off on the random battles if you see yourself outpacing the story enemies.
