GameFAQs Contests
Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 1008
Thanks
for posting the picture (saves me the time to search it out). I guess
that does technically establish a precedent, but that was a CJayC era
picture made by CJayC. He probably took the first/easiest Ratchet render
he could find. It's not all that similar to this case, where match
results can be changed. Imagine if Red/Blue get Charizard/Blastoise and
roll through the Street Fighters (or heck, imagine they lose
regardless). What's now stopping people from throwing Samus into
Ridley's pics, or Mario into Wario's? --- Yoblazer: http://oi52.tinypic.com/ad21i1.jpg Watch and you'll see... someday I'll be... part of your world! |
Technically, there was this picture, but it's not the same situation. http://www.gamefaqscontests.com/gallery/albums/cb8/cb8-126-2.jpg --- http://img600.imageshack.us/img600/8718/leonflowchart.png |

So I have Chris/Wesker > Big Boss/The Boss in my bracket. |
Message From PartOfYourWorld on 11/02/2011 Quick question that some people on Board 8 are wondering: will you be accepting Pokemon Trainer Red/Blue pictures that showcase actual Pokemon (such as Charizard and Blastoise) beside/behind the trainers? Message From GameFAQs on 11/02/2011 Sure, as long as they're appropriate to the characters. this ****. Switched to Red/Blue>Ryu/Ken, Dante/Vergil>Sora/Riku.

That
seems like a dumb rule. Couldn't you make Link/Ganon vs Cloud/Sephiroth
essentially a group picture of Zelda vs FF7 then? Seems to open up too
many weird possibilities. They should just limit to the characters in
the match. I doubt it'll matter much, though. I don't see how a picture can make Red go from being equal to Ocelot to beating Ryu. --- http://www.yourgamercards.net/trophy/a/RyanSaotome.png http://myanimelist.net/signature/RyanSaotome.png |
The
picture alone won't increase Red's strength from Ocelot's level to
Ryu's level. The people who are picking Red over Ryu are also hoping
for a rivalry boost as well, which would increase Red's strength more
than any picture could. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as BlAcK TuRtLe, Guru Champ! |
Ok,
so I just switched to Jill > Kirby (just like last time!). But then
I realized I had Kirby/MK beating Sonic/Robotnik in round 2 before,
because Robotnik sucks. More hard decisions! --- 90s games > 00s games |
I
could see Charizard/Blastoise's additions boosting the rivalry-aspect
for Red/Blue, but I don't think they would do much if they were just in
the background for Red or Blue in a standard Character Battle either.
It'll be fascinating to watch. --- http://img812.imageshack.us/img812/3492/eponaharr.jpg Nominate E P O N A. |
I'd probably take Ryu/Ken over Charizard/Blastoise, so that won't affect my pick. --- xyzzy |
What would be "appropriate" for Red and Blue? Charizard, Pikachu, Pidgeot on one side Blastoise, Eevee and Fearow on the other? --- When you've got a pretty-boy monkey on your back constantly calling you a puppet, you hardly want to seem like you're happy to be used. - DSakaCharanJ |

I figure some of those "reliable fodders" could be improving this contest due to having strong partners (Ridley seems like an especially good bet; he could even be pulled up to the point where he has a winning record), but it's still interesting. Master
Chief isn't that surprising. He always managed to get a high seed, so

Ready to go! Less than 2 hours away. I think I've got plenty of upsets this year, after a pretty boring bracket last time. --- 90s games > 00s games |
Match I: (1) Mario/Bowser vs. (8) Earthworm Jim/Queen Slug-for-a-Butt Previous Contest Mario – 2010 81.04% against Falco Lombardi 63.16% against Big Boss 74.10% against Ike 58.38% against Mega Man 53.59% against Charizard 35.43% against Link Bowser – 2010 63.22% against Frog 61.68% against Kefka 54.70% against Sora 45.27% against Charizard Earthworm Jim – 2004 17.02% against Mega Man Queen Slug-for-a-Butt – N/A N/A Analysis After a year of waiting SBAllen finally gives us a contest and we finally got that tag team tournament that was thrown around every now and then. The new format will probably alter expected results and it at least makes Link not a lock though he is still considered to be the heavy favourite according to the board. It has been a while since we last saw Earthworm Jim and since then he’s had his Genesis game remade onto the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, nothing that should make him look any stronger than his 2004 self. The pair survived the vote-in to reach the contest, but when you consider some of the competition and that the Queen has “butt” in her name which probably garnered a few extra votes it isn’t that surprising that the pair reached this contest. I feel relative to the rest of the noble nine Bowser brings more strength to the group. Even though Bowser was SFF by Mario in 2004 he did hold up rather well which suggests that people do prefer him and that he isn’t just a Mario proxy. You also have to take into account that the partners that most of the noble nine have are significantly weaker before taking any SFF into account and then you have Ganondorf which adds very little to Link. Sadly there’s very little to test this on before the final as all the threats are on the opposite side of the bracket. Maybe if Samus avoids SFF for once. It’ll be interesting to see how voting will change compare to other contests. While the majority may just pick their favourite out of the group and be done we could see some interesting tactics. People could actually take the rivalries into account sort of like how people did it with the Game of the Decade or we could see shifts in voting where people may take their second and third favourite characters over their first favourite should they not like the partner. Either way that requires knowledge of both games in order to make such a decision which means it may take a while before we start seeing the effects of voting pattern change. charmander6000’s Bracket: Mario/Bowser > Earthworm Jim/Queen Slug-for-a-Butt charmander6000’s Prediction: Mario/Bowser wins, 84.21% - 15.79% --- BOP Results: http://www.freewebs.com/charmander6000/Rivalry%20BOP.xls BOP Topic: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/8-gamefaqs-contests/60566352 |
