Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 1008
Well,
this is like a 63/37 now, even wider a gap than last time. The big deal
about this is that Skyward Sword may be the first big Zelda game since
LttP that isn't the strongest game in its release year (heck, the
first big one ever if you don't count Zelda II). I wonder how much the
WiiMotion+ requirement is hurting it. It and Majora are the only two
console Zeldas that need an extra peripheral to play. There are probably
tons of early Wii owners who don't have WM+ and don't feel like

Actually,
check out the release year of every major console Zelda (North
America). Zelda games are practically unchallenged in their release year

FLUKE
STAT?! Wind Waker has a great shot at beating MGS3, RE4, and KHII,
which would make it the strongest game between its release date and

It's
too risky an upset. Dante needs to beat a game Sora/Riku team just to
reach Squall. Squall is also a huge favorite if he's facing the
Sora/Riku team. There's just too much working against Dante/Vergil, not

not saying you're wrong. I'm saying that FFX-2 and FF12 were the
toughest competition in the two most recent Zelda years. those are weak

Dante beats Sora 1 v 1, I imagine. Riku beats Vergil. Problem is that even though Dante/Vergil is a much better rivalry than Sora/Riku, Sora/Riku is going to get boosted a lot more because people have actually played KH1/2. --- Black Turtle did a pretty good job. |

remember playing through Kingdom Hearts. Right off the bat, it was the
corniest thing ever, but as soon as Riku challenged me to a race to see
who shares the paupu fruit with Kairi, I was all IT'S ON. Sora/Riku is

POTENTIAL DMC SPOILERS MAYBE NOT REALLY Do you guys think Vergil will be hurt by a Nelo Angelo pic? I'm wondering if it may even help him, going by the assumption that the original DMC is the strongest. No.
Nelo Angelo isn't recognizable, Dante/Vergil looking similar plays up
the rivalry aspect more than 'standing out' will, and most importantly
of all, no one cares about Nelo Angelo while Vergil is the only DMC
character other than Dante to get into a contest and was popular enough
to get into UMVC3. Edit: And no offense yo, but it sounds like exactly the sort of idea someone who's only played DMC1 would make! --- Black Turtle did a pretty good job. |

As
a fan of the original, I care about Nelo Angelo. His boss fights were
awesome, and I think anyone who stuck around long enough for DMC3
understands that the two characters are one and the same. Using a Nelo
pic might help capitalize on those people who played the first but

Vergil
completely eclipses Nelo Angelo in every way (character, popularity,
boss battles). You might as well suggest that we get rid of all human
Ganondorf pictures and only use pigdorf. --- Black Turtle did a pretty good job. |
The possibility of the pic not being from DMC3 is just more reason to go with Sora/Riku, IMO. --- Praise the Black Turtle, Game of the Decade Guru Champ. (Well, I never promised creativity, did I?!) |

I was correct when I suggested that DMC1 might
be the strongest game in the series. Doesn't seem like that big of a

DMC1 isn't anywhere near stronger than DMC3 to justify putting Nelo Angelo in a pic. I don't think you get that people really like Vergil. Dante vs. Vergil is the driving point behind DMC3. Nelo Angelo is just a series of cool boss fights. --- Black Turtle did a pretty good job. |

I just realized the contest starts tomorrow. And at 9 PM too now that
I'm on the West Coast, so that's only 32 hours away. I've got some
catching up to do with the Guru, Oracle, Spread Betting, BOP, etc. and

Unless something crazy happens, I don't see anything beating Skyrim. I don't buy Portal 2 being much stronger than Skyward Sword if its even that strong to begin with, and thats the only other real contender I see. There are definitely more Zelda fans on this site..like me for example...but i'm just not feeling the SS hype. IF SS delivers then Skyrim will struggle to dominate. FFXIII
and Mass Effect 2 had all year to be released, bomb, and flourish
respectively. Skyrim and Zelda are getting released only a month or two
before GotY voting. Even if Zelda is better received, it may be too late
for the hype to shift (as it did for Mass Effect through word of mouth
throughout 2010). And there's also the possibility that Skyrim is
