Ganondorf
and Zelda are the two biggest leeches in contest history. Absolutely no
one likes them as anything more than their foils to Link. Bowser has
some dedicated fans of his own, but Ganondorf? It's hard to see him
adding virtually anything to that rivalry. This is also the only reason why Link/Ganon vs. Cloud/Sephy is debatable (and even the, gotta side with Link). --- Black Turtle did a pretty good job. |

I see that Big Boss vs. The Boss is a significant favorite over Tidus vs. Jecht. Is this because of Big Boss' presumed strength? Yeah.
2010's Sub-Zero/Tidus and Sub-Zero/Samus project Tidus to get around
30% on Samus, whereas Big Boss got 37% on Mario without even getting a
Naked Snake picture. Since this contest it'll always be Big Boss in the

It's
true that Ganondorf is a relatively weak Link-leecher, but I think the
strength of the game/series will be much more meaningful in this contest
compared to other character contests. If you put Link/Ganondorf
against Cloud/Sephiroth, some voters will be seeing "Zelda vs. Final
Fantasy" or "Zelda: Ocarina of Time vs. Final Fantasy VII", and we all

Link should
approach or exceed 50% against both Cloud and Seph in a 3-way poll. He
got almost 45% on Cloud and Snake in 2006, and he would have done better
had Snake been replaced with Sephiroth (AND that poll did little to
mobilize the Nintendo fanbase because Link was never in danger). If you want to consider the actual rivalries, then Cloud/Seph have FFVII and maybe Kingdom Hearts II if you want to stretch things a little. Link/Ganon have OoT (let's all admit that Ganon was a pretty beastly villain in that game), WW, TP, LttP, and LoZ. Yes, the relationship between Cloud/Seph is more powerful than Link/Ganon have forged in any singular game, but it's not nearly as historic a relationship. why cloud usually looks very disappointing against everyone and then

Yeah, it truly is sad how little there is to discuss. Speaking of Tidus/Jecht vs. Big Boss/The Boss, the former at least is representative of the stronger game, which means something. Imagine if Tidus and Big Boss were exactly equal for a moment. Then, add partners that are equally helpful to each of them. I'm quite sure Tidus would now have the advantage because, you know, the match is one step closer to "Final Fantasy X vs. Metal Gear Solid 3". going to end up. I'm more curious about how the Bosses are going to

Well, The Boss is the weakest character in the match here, but she's closer to Tidus and Jecht than they are to Big Boss. It may end up being fairly close, but I don't like Tidus/Jecht's chances here. --- "I couldn't stand a day without a past or future. I need to live each moment to keep fighting here and now." |

I'd have trouble picking between the Samus/Mega Man/Sonic teams, and they may be vulnerable against the teams in the lower tier. Ryu/Ken Sub-Zero/Scorpion Squall/Seifer Kirby/Meta Knight Sora/Riku Crono/Lavos Big Boss/The Boss Pokemon Trainer Red/Blue I considered putting Luigi/Waluigi, silly as it sounds. I also wasn't sure whether to include both Chrono Trigger teams, one, or neither. Link/Ganondorf Mario/Bowser Tier 2: Solid/Liquid X/Zero Everyone else: Squall/Seifer Mega Man/Dr. Wily Samus/Ridley Sonic/Dr. Robotnik Crono/Lavos Ryu/Ken Sora/Riku Sub-Zero/Scorpion Kirby/Meta Knight Alucard/Dracula Frog/Magus ('cause I said so!) Missed the cut: Big Boss/The Boss About Squall/Seifer.... - I'm sure I'm too high here, but Seifer probably wins the award for "most useful partner" compared to the partner's strength by itself. Link/Ganon
vs. Cloud/Sephiroth really should be the most debated match here.
Link/Ganon seem to be a heavy favorite on this board because of (1) fear
and (2) Skyward Sword. But as someone who's never missed Link/Cloud in
a bracket before and thus never gotten burned on it, let's do this

On
October 31st, there will be a "Which scheduled November release are you
most looking forward to?" poll. That will be interesting, as Skyward
Sword and Skyrim will be in the same poll for the second time. Last
time, Skyward Sword lost to Skyrim, so it will be interesting if Skyward
Sword can reverse the result after having more time to build up hype

There
will also be fewer options, which seems to help Nintendo-options at
times. B:AC, BF3, and Dark Souls won't be eligible anymore for Monday's

Hopefully Sonic Generations and Uncharted 3 will actually be in the poll this time. Uncharted 3 should be in the poll. As for Sonic Generations, I'm not too confident on that one. Bacon screws over the Sonic games when it comes to GotY polls and upcoming game polls. I
dunno, there are still some tough matches. Two divisions have wide open
winners. We all know that Phoenix's is a deathtrap, but the Pokemon
Trainer division is also really tough. The Street Fighter games are
weak, Ken is pretty weak, and Ryu is still probably a bit weaker than
Luigi. There is a chance that Ryu and Ken bomb, sad as it may be. Add to
that the uncertainty of Nintendo SFF (we just saw Pokemon drop an SFF
match in the last contest), and you can conceivably have Luigi and
Waluigi taking that division. Conversely, if Ryu and Ken BEAST IT and, say, even challenge Samus, what's to stop Sub-Zero and Scorpion from doing the same? X and Zero aren't completely safe against the MK ninjas. Cloud/Sephiroth have a slight chance at both toppling Link or failing spectacularly against Snake. Squall, who is nearly a 100% favorite to win his division, has a partner we've never even seen before. Sora/Riku vs. Dante/Vergil is a tough match (remember that Ultimate MvC3 features both Dante and Vergil), and I wouldn't be surprised if the winner there gives Squall some trouble.
