Saren
isn't in ME2, which is one of the reasons I have his team losing in
Round 1. Mass Effect 2 is what made that series really big. If Saren had
been in both games (or even just the sequel), I'd have given more

there's little question that ME2 had a big effect on the series'
popularity and on Shepard's popularity. In 2008, Shepard was the
forgotten member of the Sonic/Magus/Sandbag match, and ME1 got rocked in
2009. It's similar to what happened with Drake going from UC1 to UC2.
I'm sure a lot of people who played UC2 also played UC1, but there's a

ME2
sold more than ME1 (I can't find the final numbers, but ME2 hit two
million sales in its first week versus ME1's one million in three weeks)
and got a much better reception as well, so I don't agree with ME1
having the better play-rate. I also don't recall Saren being missed during GameSpot's villain-contest, though GameSpot did show Garrus get #3 in their sidekick's vote-in poll (behind Luigi and Yoshi). His performance in the bracket is questionable (barely lost to HK-47 when 4chan was interfering with several contest-favorites), but it still showed potential for the rest of the ME-cast. If Saren could match HK-47 here, I'd reconsider that match...but right now, I don't think so. Besides that, Halo/Castlevania still scares me away from ME's team. Remember how we thought Halo'd be the favorite to win, yet even many of the Halo-fans turned on that series since it was only a two-game series? ME's in a similar position, and -- while ME's bigger here than Halo -- I don't trust a rivalry that came from only its lesser game in the series to compete with CV's richer history. Talking
about Garrus, it almost makes me wish he got in as Shepards rival. If
you play a goody goody, he constantly rivals everything you decide to
do, since he's like the bad cop to Shepards good cop. I guess that

Shepard
had as good a reason as any to be Last FF'd in that match, considering
it had a N9 member and a very close match involving a joke character. Saren is actually a pretty solid rival for Shepard, and though Saren's not around much in the middle game, he's definitely prominent in the beginning and end. Of course, the main problem is that he's only in ME1, which is what will hurt this rivalry. Then again, it's not like Shepard has any real rivals in ME2, though I could see Shepard/Harbinger net a few joke votes due to the latter's memes. --- Wylvane Guru Contest Winner Black Turtle is a wonderful user. |

Hey,
can anyone who has played the Devil May Cry games say anything about
the strength of the Dante/Vergil rivalry (not the individual characters
but the rivalry itself) At first, I took Sora>Dante without a second thought. The more I look at it, however, the more I want to pick Dante here. If the rivalry is really strong, I honestly think I'll change right now, but if its a nonexistant thing like maybe Samus/Ridley or Luigi/Waluigi I'll have to think more. |

Uh,
in Devil May Cry 3, arguably the most popular game in the series, it's a
pretty damn cool rivalry and the driving force behind the whole game. *slight spoilers* They clash like three times, one of which is the final battle. *end spoilers* It is a hinted subplot in DMC1 too. Still, Sora/Riku is pretty damn popular in the KH fanbase, and that's almost always prevalent when they're in the games. It'll be tough to beat. |
Dante/Vergil is one of the best gaming rivalries you'll ever see. Problem is, you need to have played DMC3 to understand that. --- Black Turtle did a pretty good job. |
Yeah,
Sora/Riku is definitely strong. But, with Kingdom Hearts 3 still not
out and Square pumping out new half-hearted sequels/prequels I'm hoping
KH is weakening. (I know this is definitely true among my friends who
no longer like the series as much, not sure about the bigger picture
though.) Combine that with MvC3 for Dante who is already really strong
anyways, and I definitely think Dante could win this match. |
Anyone think rivalries will be heavily tied to game/series strength? --- *is Dranze* I lost my girl and lost to Black Turtle. Can't get worse. |
Dante/Vergil
is a great rivalry, one of the best in the contest, but KH being more
played than DMC will probably give Sora/Riku the advantage there. I
think Dante is more popular than anyone in the match, but Vergil is also
probably the weakest - and this site loves Kingdom Hearts for some bad

The
Dante/Vergil rivalry is very good, but Dante is much more popular than
his games so I'm not sure how much the quality of the rivalry will help
him. I think people like the Sora/Riku rivalry too, and more people on
this site have played at least KH I and II than any DMC game. Dante
should probably be favored over Sora at this point, considering KH's
poor showing the last couple contests, but Riku would likely easily beat
Vergil no matter how far KH has fallen. I guess it comes down to what you think MvC3/UMvC3 do for Dante/Vergil, because I doubt they could win this with the strength them and their series have shown in the past alone; I think they definitely need that MvC boost. --- [NO BARKLEY NO PEACE] |

Vergil
being in UMvC3 will actually help him unlike Phoenix Wright, who has
his match before the game comes out. I see it as a toss up but I'm going

It'll
depend on how much hype is sustained. If this is the only trailer of
Phoenix Wright in the game it might not do much considering the match is

He has some cool moves that appeal to fans of the series, but will people really want to play some lawyer throwing papers if they don't know who the character is?
