don't mind shorter nomination periods as long as we can have a entry
period that is about two weeks long, so we can have plenty of time to

Shorter
nomination-periods are perfectly fine with me; let's shake up the
seeding a little bit. As long as the bracket is legit (which can work
around seeding) and no major snubs are missed (not just in the bracket,
but in the vote-ins), it's hard to go wrong with shorter
nomination-periods. Get us to the bracket-making phase so we can start

I thought the longer nomination periods were bad anyway. And Bacon can always tweak the brackets a little if he needs to. Something I'm curious about, by the way. I feel like there are close to as many international/european posters in the S&D topic as there are Americans. How did we end up calling it a bracket instead of a draw? |

think you're overestimating the number of Europeans/Internationals in
this topic, in Canada we call it a bracket too and GameFAQs calls it a

First time I hear about a "draw". I know that when we allocated a certain number of team in some group, we call it a draw (like they do in soccer for the World Cup) but I did not know that a bracket like we know it can be call a "draw"... it make no sense to me.... Those crazy Europeans =) |
Today's
poll is trying to make a run at beating out that iPhone GotY poll for
the worst vote totals in nearly 5 years. iPhone GotY poll had 2461
votes at the end of the first hour, while today's poll had 2929 votes at
the end of the first hour. Today's poll should end up around 31000
votes, but it would be the second worst vote total since the start of

My
main sport is tennis and it's always referred to as a draw there. The
weirdest thing in the world is seeing European tennis fans discuss the
March Madness draw. |
Vote
totals ended up being a little bit worse than I expected. I guess that
happens because this site doesn't seem to care about TGS like they care
about E3, so I probably expect many users to have no clue what's in
Vita's launch lineup. This poll won't even reach 30000 votes, making it only the second poll since the start of 2007 to get under 30000. Here are my thoughts based on SBAllen's contest feedback from a while ago: I'd be fine with a Character Battle, since it'd be the first one I'd ever enter (aside from the current one on Gamespot, which is a total troll-fest), but I don't really like the idea of an All-Fictional Character Battle since it could be too broad and it could basically turn into a movie vs. videogame Character Battle (but take that as you will). -A "Tag Team Character Battle" sounds like an interesting enough twist to a contest, but there's gotta be more to it if we want to get some variety. -A "Worst Character/Game" Contest sounds great. I'd personally go with worst game, but it could go either way (for the characters, I'd go with Master Chief > Tingle > Navi. For the games, I'd go with Superman 64 > E.T. > Shaq Fu) -A "Most Atractive Character Battle" sounds like it would be really fun, but since I believe 85% of the contenders would be female characters, people would be drooling everywhere and touching themselves (I'd go with Morrigan > Zero Suit Samus > Yuna on that one). -A "Best Inanimate Object" Contest sounds too bland and way too broad (but maybe Triforce > Magic Mushroom > WCC would be a way to go). -A "Mega Man Robot Master" Contest sounds way too narrow. -A "Best Developer" Contest sounds like one of the best ideas IMO. There's plenty of variety and many new developers like Bethesda and Bioware have been shining through (I'd go with Nintendo > Squaresoft > Capcom). there even any series that get universal hate on this site anymore? CoD
seems like the only series that's hated like that, though for a "worst
character" contest IDK if it has a character that can represent that
well enough. I suppose they have had characters in the contests before,
though.. >_> I'm pretty sure Chief would get in a worst character contest here, but it would be more because of really low nominations than anything else. I doubt he'd go very far, I'd imagine that people would eventually vote for the characters he's against to prove the point that we're past hating on Halo or whatever. "Best Developer" Contest to be the most viable option. It would attract

The
site would be hopeless either way in a Character Battle without Link.
You'd have to eliminate Cloud too. I'm just saying that it would be a
viable option with an interesting twist without/before going all the way
with a completely new concept like "Worst. Game. Ever.". Sort of like a
"bridge" for new and interesting contest ideas. "Tag Team Character

The site would be hopeless either way in a Character Battle without Link. You'd have to eliminate Cloud too. Cloud should certainly be the favorite in a Link-less bracket, but I wouldn't call him a lock. |
Cloud
is very beatable, especially if A) Square continues to drop, or B)
Samus/Mario benefit from Link not being around, ala Majora's Mask as an
Ocarina of Time proxy, or hell, maybe the Nintendo Boost in 2005 was

Mario
is who I'd go with. Metal Gear games have fallen, no reason to think
Snake hasn't as well... and Cloud is becoming more and more irrelevant

Depending
on the bracket, I might float a Samus pick. No, no, hear me out. Mario
goes up against Cloud and/or Snake, gets beaten, and then Samus powers

Doing match pictures for that type of contest seems like it would be hard to do. I just had an idea for a "Best Video Game Weapon" contest, which would cover any type of weapon used to physically assault someone in a video game. This includes guns, swords, spears, or other melee weapons. Doing match pictures for that type of contest wouldn't be hard at all.
