GameFAQs Contests
Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 997
Hey, even CJayC tried to be more subtle about his cheating than that! --- "I couldn't stand a day without a past or future. I need to live each moment to keep fighting here and now." |
Link to the Past - 14375 [49.05%] Majora's Mask - 14934 [50.95%] Ocarina of Time - 21338 [76.53%] Wind Waker - 6543 [23.47%] Majora's Mask - 14739 [50.25%] Twilight Princess - 14591 [49.75%] Yikes, don't mess with the N64! --- thengamer.com/guru thengamer.com/xstats board8.wikia.com You should search for The Show, the cool podcast featuring Guru Champ Black Turtle! |
LOL Ngamer More like don't mess with Twilight Princess --- "I couldn't stand a day without a past or future. I need to live each moment to keep fighting here and now." |
Sounds
more like it took massive result fixing to keep the N64 games from
playing each other in the Finals, so I stand by my original yikes! --- thengamer.com/guru thengamer.com/xstats board8.wikia.com You should search for The Show, the cool podcast featuring Guru Champ Black Turtle! |
I
would think we would expect OoT to kill any other Zelda game and we
would expect TP/MM to be a close match here. MM beating LTTP is, of
course, a standout, but NES and SNES games are eventually going to
decline. We've already seen it happen with Mario 3, for example. --- "I couldn't stand a day without a past or future. I need to live each moment to keep fighting here and now." |
Hmm,
looks like the round 3 matches didn't actually end just yet. I thought
they ended already given the fact that I could see the vote totals for
the matches. In the previous rounds, I remember the vote totals only
being visible once the matches close. Uh, Twilight Princess has magically gained over 150 votes while Majora's Mask gained 0 and TP has suddenly replaced MM in the finals. Also, I voted Majora's Mask in the Finals but now that TP has replaced it I have the option to vote again, but only for OoT. Another weird thing is that OoT hasn't received any more votes since I posted results earlier, while Wind Waker has received about 44 more votes. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as BlAcK TuRtLe, Guru Champ! |
Well, I tossed my vote to the superior Zelda game (hint: it's not the one that will win). Expecting the final to be a slaughter. --- MvC3: Haggar/Ammy/Wesker http://img.imgcake.com/1294368287999pngyz.png |
And
TP is STILL somehow slowly gaining votes in Round 3 while MM is still
at the 14,739 votes that Luster posted earlier in the topic. http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g3/CzarMagus/TPcheat.png http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g3/CzarMagus/TPcheat2.png --- Black turtle beat me, o noes! |
is anyone brave enough to venture onto IGN's boards and see if there's any admin recognition of what's happening here? --- http://www.nbc.com/parks-and-recreation/exclusives/ron-dancing-animated.gif |
From what I could tell, there aren't any topics about the tournament at all. --- Guru Status: Beaten cleanly by BT. http://www.rpgdl.com - Because everybody loves violent arena battles, right? |
I
hope that controversy gets settled, but whatever the case it shows
TP/MM being mighty close together. If we're going to discuss MM's
chances against LttP, it's probably worth discussing TP's against MM
too. --- http://img812.imageshack.us/img812/3492/eponaharr.jpg Nominate E P O N A. |
I doubt they'll change anything. Nobody seems to care about that contest so IGN can just do what they want --- http://myanimelist.net/signature/RyanSaotome.png |
Twilight
Princess has lost about 2000 votes, giving us LttP > TP in the
x-stats, and Majora's Mask is now back in the final. Also, I can vote
for either game again. --- Black turtle beat me, o noes! |
What is this tomfoolery --- "I couldn't stand a day without a past or future. I need to live each moment to keep fighting here and now." |
I forgot to check back on the tournament I discovered. lol me. I really want another games contest just to settle the Zelda score now. |
Can you imagine the ****storm on b8 if that happened before the final match of a contest here? --- http://myanimelist.net/signature/RyanSaotome.png |
I'm
not sure if OoT would crush MM or TP worse, but it's still going to be
the most dominant championship win we've seen from a contest on the
internet in awhile. --- http://img812.imageshack.us/img812/3492/eponaharr.jpg Nominate E P O N A. |
Okay, now the results are final. Ocarina of Time - 21338 [74.60%] Wind Waker - 7264 [25.40%] Majora's Mask - 14739 [53.30%] Twilight Princess - 12916 [46.70%] Neither OoT or Majora's Mask received a single vote since the last time I posted results in this topic. Wind Waker gained about 700 more votes on OoT since the last time I posted results. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as BlAcK TuRtLe, Guru Champ! |
-LusterSoldier- posted... Majora's Mask - 14739 [53.30%] Twilight Princess - 12916 [46.70%] Thats a lot more like it. --- http://myanimelist.net/signature/RyanSaotome.png |
Aw yeah, Wind Waker avoiding the tripling --- "I couldn't stand a day without a past or future. I need to live each moment to keep fighting here and now." |
I'm
guessing Wind Waker and Twilight Princess were both getting
illegitimate votes, and IGN's poll security was so bad that the program
or whatever being used to do this was able to keep giving them more
votes even after Round 3 ended, eventually changing the winner and
glitching the Round 4 poll. Then IGN figured out what happened, removed
TP's cheated votes, and restarted the Ocarina/MM poll. They didn't
bother with WW extra votes because they didn't matter. My theory, anyways. Or maybe the votes for the Round 4 poll were just going to the losers of the previous round rather than the winners because of a glitch. --- Black turtle beat me, o noes! |
Polls for the next 5 days: 5/20/2011 - I don't know. Probably an original poll idea. 5/21/2011 - I don't know. Probably an original poll idea. 5/22/2011 - How reliable is your Internet connection? 5/23/2011 - What kind of Internet connection do you have? The poll on 5/23/2011 will be interesting, because it was ran last year. I also stole the first vote for "Dial-up Modem" in last year's internet connection poll. Now I will have no choice but to steal the first vote for "Cable Modem". --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as BlAcK TuRtLe, Guru Champ! |
charmander6000 | Posted 5/16/2011 6:57:04 PM | message detail | quote Gender polls have often been the highest vote totaling polls outside of contest matches, it doesn't get that simplier and really everyone has an answer. If shorter people were abstaining in large numbers then the vote total should have reflected that. I finally compiled a list of every poll to break 100000 votes outside of contest matches. I managed to do that after compiling a list of every single poll (including contest matches) along with the date and final vote total for every poll. https://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=tIpdES4GIvHTXSXboxVJZoA The "Full Poll List" I created has the polls sorted by the date instead of the poll number (like they are sorted on GameFAQs). --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as BlAcK TuRtLe, Guru Champ! |
Good job LS, though just one thing. Total Votes|Number of Polls |Non-Contest Polls Less than 10000 Votes | 430 | 429 Is this a mistake because the only contest poll I can think of that had less than 10k was the glitched Xenogears/GSC and that poll was restarted. --- BOP Results: http://charmander6000.webs.com/GotD%20BOP.xls Congratulations to Black Turtle for winning the guru contest. |

As
far as vote totals are concerned in the polls lately, we've gone back
to 2005-level vote totals. The average vote totals so far this year
stands at 60995, just slightly higher than the average of 56643 for
polls in 2005. Hopefully vote totals pick up once a mobile version of GameFAQs is implemented (which SBAllen has stated will be worked on eventually). Making GameFAQs friendly on mobile browsers/platforms would encourage more people to come to the site using mobile phones, or portable game systems. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as BlAcK TuRtLe, Guru Champ! |
LOL Link/Solano --- "I couldn't stand a day without a past or future. I need to live each moment to keep fighting here and now." |
I wonder what you have against Link/Solano being considered a contest match? --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as BlAcK TuRtLe, Guru Champ! |
Probably
because 95% of the site was completely unaware the poll existed and was
never placed on the front page. It's "for fun" and totally "not canon"
as far as contest matches go because, well, in a "real" contest match,
Link would obliterate Solano. I'm not saying this out of any sort of fanboyism for Link or anything because I don't really care about him personally, but I wouldn't really consider it a "legit" result because it was run under different circumstances than, well, every other contest match we've ever had. --- "I couldn't stand a day without a past or future. I need to live each moment to keep fighting here and now." |
Any match that's not worth points isn't a contest match by my book. --- BOP Results: http://charmander6000.webs.com/GotD%20BOP.xls Congratulations to Black Turtle for winning the guru contest. |
What was the biggest amount of time between two contests? I'm starting to experience some withdrawal symptoms. |
[This message was deleted at the request of the original poster] |
Longer than the wait we're having right now. Probably the gap between 2005 and 2006, which was more than a year. This is TRE territory though. I'm sure he can pull up the amount of time down to the second. --- "I couldn't stand a day without a past or future. I need to live each moment to keep fighting here and now." |
What was the biggest amount of time between two contests? I'm not even sure on that one. Probably because 95% of the site was completely unaware the poll existed and was never placed on the front page. Vote totals were going to be low since the poll was hosted inside of a topic on Board 8, which you couldn't view unless you had an account that was level 15 or higher. Today, Board 8 can be viewed without having an account since Bacon changed it before the start of the 2010 Character Battle. Any match that's not worth points isn't a contest match by my book. http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=2926 http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=3308 http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=3509 Those 3 bonus matches still got significantly higher vote totals than non-contest polls despite not being part of the main contest. It's going to be very hard for any non-contest poll to beat those 3 contest matches in vote totals. The 151316 votes that was put up by Poll 2576 was the highest known vote total outside of a contest match and even it was still about 1400 votes away from beating the bonus match from 2008. It could be possible for a non-contest poll to outdo the bonus matches from 2008 and 2009, but the one from 2007 (with ? Block) is out of reach for sure. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as BlAcK TuRtLe, Guru Champ! |
it's only been 5 months. The gap between 2002 and 2003 was almost twice as that. --- BOP Results: http://charmander6000.webs.com/GotD%20BOP.xls Congratulations to Black Turtle for winning the guru contest. |
2002 and 2003 are ancient history. The times have changed! |
To think, when we had our first contest, FFX was less than a year old. Now it's almost 10! --- "I couldn't stand a day without a past or future. I need to live each moment to keep fighting here and now." |
Even the gap between the end of Winter 2010 and announcement of Fall 2010 is slightly longer than the current wait. I am certainly hoping we get something soon, though. --- Black turtle beat me, o noes! |
With
E3 only 2 weeks away, there certainly won't be any contest
announcements until after E3. At the earliest, you could have a contest
announcement near the end of June. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as BlAcK TuRtLe, Guru Champ! |

I got another poll selected! KH:BbS is looking good early. --- http://img812.imageshack.us/img812/3492/eponaharr.jpg Nominate E P O N A. |
Boring poll. I couldn't care about stuff like HD remakes. Also, just noticed a spelling mistake in "Fial Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions". --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as BlAcK TuRtLe, Guru Champ! |
Unlike
most of the other games on there, Birth By Sleep didn't really do
anything unique with or was limited by the platform it was on. It could easily be a console game. Though I haven't played them yet, I imagine the God of Wars would be in a similar boat. |
Go go Peace Walker --- "I couldn't stand a day without a past or future. I need to live each moment to keep fighting here and now." |
Peace Walker. --- Knowledge is the eye of desire and can become the pilot of the soul. |
It's
still a solid representation of PSP's biggest games (minus Monster
Hunter, which is already confirmed) in a poll; most of these won
PSP-GotY awards here. That's interesting in its own right, and any of
these games getting a console-release would be news to our contests too. --- http://img812.imageshack.us/img812/3492/eponaharr.jpg Nominate E P O N A. |
Let's
not forget a BBS HD remake would probably be of the Final Mix version,
and may be a good way to get into onto American shores. Throw in HD ports of 1 and 2, and we can get a Final Mix HD Bundle. Dreams DO come true! |
