I hope that the MvC3 bomb while MK9 does well will convince more developers that you can't just release a barebones fighting game anymore in this day and age. You need lots of single player content as well

MvsC3 wasn't really considered a bomb though, from what I understand. Maybe if you don't have internet-access and friends, but I've understood the fighting community's been behind the game because the engine's good and the single-player content never meant very much to them.

Well maybe not bomb sales wise as much as bomb expectations wise. It was really hyped all over gaming sites, but now you don't really hear much about it anymore outside of from hardcore fighting game fans. Yet MK9 comes out of no where with little hype and people like it more, so that makes MvC3 look even worse comparatively.

Still, I don't think MK-characters will see as big of a boost as some MvsC3-characters.

I guess we'll see!

Though another notable Amaterasu boost would, like...put her near Leon's level. Going from narrowly beating Ada to beating Leon would be...something.

MK characters won't boost as much because they're already pretty well known. The more well known MvC3 characters (like Ryu) probably won't boost much, but someone like Ammy will probably benefit nicely.

I think someone like Dante may boost, since he's being introduced to a new audience. Enough to get him over Ryu, at least.

Epic poll alert for the next poll. Here are the polls for the next 3 days:

5/14/2011 - What do you do for a living?
5/15/2011 - How tall are you?
5/16/2011 - Do you leave your computer on when you're not using it?

I was unable to provide trend charts for the "What do you do for a living?" poll when it was ran last year, because I had a power outage from about 12:30 PM to 5:20 PM on the day of that poll. This time around, I can do trend charts for that poll.

Hmm, I'll track poll updates for the height poll, but I don't think there will be any interesting trends there. The employment poll will have more noticeable trends. I can also use the employment poll to get an idea of what time period the "Grade School" option does best in (normally the ASV on a school day) when the poll happens on a weekend.

As for the issue of "Female" getting vote stuffed by 4chan's rallying in the Male/Female poll, I predict that 4chan rallied about 500 votes for Female. The rallying died off shortly after 2:00 AM. Male averaged 93.38% of the votes from 2:30 AM until the end of the poll. Using the final results for the poll, I had to figure out how many votes to take away from Female to set Male at 93.38%. Which was about 500 votes.

Average height of US males (according to wikipedia) is 5' 9.5" factor in that the rest of the world is on average shorter, let's go with 5' 9" since that's what the poll has.

Height is skewed towards short people so it's expected that more than 50% of the population should be higher than 5' 9". The poll currently has 65% of GameFAQs over that average, now factor in girls and young high school kids and that percent goes even higher.

Exactly. Over 90% of the site are guys, so that really skews the average quite a bit. That's because girls are generally a few inches shorter than guys and most girls are shorter than guys.

Trend charts for yesterday's poll:

https://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=tpsWt8nzYhe42Tb8BqL6wHA&gid=1

With that being a weekend poll, it would be interesting to see what time period "Grade School Student" did best in. That happened to be in the DSV. "Grade School Student" had a terrible Night Vote and started to recover after 6:00 AM. Grade School Student's percentage kept going up during the day until about 6:00 PM. After that point, the percentage just stalled for the last 6 hours of the poll.

"College Student" started out very strong with the board vote and Power Hour, and still had a fairly good Night Vote. Though its percentage was still going down during the night. College Student collapsed when the Morning Vote came. It didn't rebound until after 12:00 PM when it managed to start going up in percentage again. This only lasted for about 5 hours, as College Student was going down in percentage again after 5:00 PM and this continued until about 10:30 PM when it started going up again. College Student did do well in the ASV and SNV, but it still couldn't compare to the good Power Hour and FNV it had.

"Graduate Student" was terrible in the Power Hour. It had a good Morning Vote, but that can be blamed on Europe.

"Part-Time Work" was best in the board vote and still had a good Power Hour and Night Vote as well. "Full-Time Work" had a very terrible board vote and the Power Hour was still bad for it. It did better in the Night Vote, but it dominated the Morning Vote (along with Grade School Student). Full-Time Work began to drop off around 12:30 PM and was going down in percentage from that point. The last 6 hours of the poll acted as an SNV for Full-Time Work

"Looking for work" was best in the Night Vote, but it also had a good board vote and Power Hour. "Nothing, I'm happy" had a good board vote, Power Hour, and Night Vote.

Or, it's self-selection striking again. You're more likely to vote in a height poll if you're tall. Short people can and do just abstain; they don't need to lie.

Hmm? It's a more interesting poll; there's a lot of factors that go into votals. Self-selection in our polls is patently obvious: it's the same reason why if you ask Board 8 for SAT scores, the median winds up being 1400/1600 or something like that.

Gender polls have often been the highest vote totaling polls outside of contest matches, it doesn't get that simplier and really everyone has an answer. If shorter people were abstaining in large numbers then the vote total should have reflected that.

How on earth can you guess how many votes the height poll would have had without abstentions? I reckon that both the gender and height polls get high votals because they're things everyone can relate to- but one could easily be more interesting than the other.

Age polls have better vote totals than gender polls.

http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=3864
http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=3870

http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=4271
http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=4333

In both pairs of polls, the age poll had higher vote totals than the gender poll. Last year's age poll would have been the Link/Cloud match in vote totals around 12:07 AM (on the second day), but it ran out of time to get more votes.

X-stats wise they're probably close-ish, but Knuckles shouldn't have a problem taking it.

How on earth can you guess how many votes the height poll would have had without abstentions?

I see it as that there is a certain percentage of potential voters that come to the site and vote if they can relate to the question. Questions like gender and age have high vote totals because everyone can relate to it and based on the vote total height probably falls into the same range. I don't see a reason why potential voters wouldn't vote in an age/gender poll, if they aren't going to vote in those types of polls I doubt they'll vote for any kind of polls.

This sounds like an interesting poll for tracking trends for.

Because gender is boring. Everyone knows male will win in a landslide. That's probably why the height and age polls have outperformed it in votals.

The weight poll outperformed the gender poll in vote totals. So weird that gender polls get lower vote totals than the age polls. It's so much easier to vote in a gender poll than an age poll.

The march to the All Fictional Character Battle rolls on!

Early results:

Who is your favorite Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle?
Donatello (purple, bo staff) 26.61% 1785
Leonardo (blue, katana) 32.23% 2162
Michelangelo (orange, nunchaku) 20.37% 1366
Raphael (red, sai) 20.78% 1394
TOTAL VOTES 6707

Really stunned with Don's strong showing here. I always figured Leo would win this without too much trouble, but I expected it to go Mike > Raph > Don, since Donatello was always the least popular turtle amongst my friends growing up. But maybe because he's the "nerdy" choice he overperforms at GameFAQs?

So far, this is the highest known vote total outside of contest matches:

The results for IGN's Zelda game contest have been revealed for round 3. Here are the results:

Ocarina of Time - 21338 [76.53%]
Wind Waker - 6543 [23.47%]

Majora's Mask - 14739 [50.25%]
Twilight Princess - 14591 [49.75%]

Ocarina of Time crushes Wind Waker badly with SFF, while Majora's Mask upsets Twilight Princess to reach the final round. This result also means Twilight Princess > Link to the Past in the final x-stats. The contest is located here:
