I haven't noticed it yet, but I'll check it out soon. Final stats for number of Pokemon for each generation: Generation 1 - 44 Generation 2 - 18 Generation 3 - 15 Generation 4 - 14 Generation 5 - 9 Highest ranked Pokemon by each generation: Generation 1 - Charizard (#1 overall) Generation 2 - Lugia (#4 overall) Generation 3 - Rayquaza (#7 overall) Generation 4 - Lucario (#32 overall) Generation 5 - Zekrom (#10 overall) 4 out of the 5 generations had at least one Pokemon in the top 10, with the exception of the 4th generation. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as BlAcK TuRtLe, Guru Champ! |
I'd
be okay trying to get Lugia into a contest. GSC still did well in GotD
despite some of our expectations (including mine), and #4 when the top
three are all from the series' biggest game isn't bad at all. I don't
really hear anybody arguing about how well Lugia did either, so...maybe
it'll be worth seeing. It should be better than Mudkip, anyway. I doubt it was considered for the list, but Rayquasa could do a little better than expected thanks to SSBB; Ridley seemed to do better post-SSBB when he was a featured boss twice in it. Couldn't
rule that out either. I imagine that played a factor too for Ridley,
though I still think it's hard to ignore he got some well-needed
exposure from SSBB (especially if the Metroid-series is about to take a
break after the way M:OM was received). Whether the single-player mode
sucked or not, a LOT of people played it and Ridley was the only

Midna nearly beat Mewtwo, fluke or not. Not sure I'd take Lugia to win that one. Subby vs. Zack would be interesting, but I think I'd still side with ZackFAQs. I feel pretty confident in Zack and Midna in their matches. As for GlaDOS I guess the main question is how much of a boost did Portal 2 give? Last year GlaDOS got 31.60% on Kirby while through Amaterasu Shadow would get 38.32% on Luigi. I just remembered the original Portal was free on Steam after the contest too. The Mewtwo/Midna-match and Midna not doing that well last time we saw her was my inspiration for the match. I'm with you on Shadow, but GLaDOS is still going to be a tough chance to take over him. She's got a LOT of room to improve since the last contest (two million copies of Portal given away, lots more copies were given with Portal 2 pre-orders, Portal 2's been well-received, GLaDOS has better pic-opportunities and more face-time, she's still quotable with a lot more material and even some back-story, etc.)... ...but there's a pretty big gap between them last year (31.6% on Kirby VS ~38% on Luigi), and we're talking about a NPC from a company not named Nintendo or Square. The strongest one I can think of that fits this category right now is Revolver Ocelot, who has more games and probably doesn't beat Shadow by much anyway. Sub-Zero
got 32.69% on Samus, Zack got 38.34% on Mega Man. That favors Zack, but
it's well within upset range and Sub-Zero is fresh off a well-received

Either way, Portal's going to be even stronger now than it had become in GotD since many people recently got/gifted Portal for pre-ordering Portal 2 and Portal 2's well-received. It wouldn't beat RE4 today, but 44.54%'s not impossible to ever overturn either and a rematch would be closer. Portal already did a great job just as a new IP (it and SotC were the only two to reach their division finals in GotD, for example...and Halo too if you wish to count it after its series grew), so any future momentum it gets as a series-name or as a free title will only escalate its success here. --- http://img812.imageshack.us/img812/3492/eponaharr.jpg Nominate E P O N A. |

LoZ:OoT FF7 SM64 LoZ:LttP RBY Maybe FFX or SSBB, too, but I don't think the most popular game since 2000 (1999, really) is as close to missing the top ten as it's been suggested. I feel good about FFX > CT and I don't think SMB3/SMW looked THAT good in BGE2 despite considering they were leeching off each other several times. As for Epona, I feel confident in her beating Midna before I start getting any cold feet, but I think she could still beat somebody significantly stronger as long as they're not very close to Ganon/Zelda. How close do you think Zack Fair is to Ganon/Zelda anyway? Zack got 38% on Mega Man in a night match, and Ganondorf got 43% on Sonic in a night match (Bacondorf notwithstanding). Using Zelda/Samus is a bit unfair (no pun intended), but remember that Jecht got 40% on Zelda (FFXIII release date having whatever effect you think), and I don't think anyone takes Jecht > Zack. times. ....Mission failed. One of the reasons I was so happy about MM beating FFX was that it established CT as the fairly definitive #2 Square game. rounds of the GOTD Contest if we have another Games Contest. Not that
it wasn't impressive throughout the contest anyway. I just don't think

The might of the Zelda fanbase has never extended beyond the character (singular) and games it sees as genuinely deserving; the Zelda fanbase really is the very opposite of dronish. I've said I would take Zack over Luigi/Yoshi/Bowser since 2008- FFVII has declined since then, so I don't know that Zack would still beat them, but he'd at least keep it close, which is good enough to keep it close against Ganondorf/Zelda. --- 90s games > 00s games |
