Common Stats Topic Lingo Defined*~ SFF (Same Fanbase Factor) - Same Fanbase Factor is the theory that, if two contestants share a common fanbase, the weaker of the two options will underperform in a direct matchup. For instance, Link was expected to defeat Ganon with 65% of the vote in 2004, based on their 2003 values. Instead, Link collected near 88% of the vote. This is the best example of SFF we've ever seen. However take some SFF labels with a grain of salt, as many people will slap it onto any match that doesn't make perfect sense. Extrapolated Standings - The mathematical "strength" of a contestant that's determined based on their performance relative to the rest of the field. This number is typically based on the contest entrant's loss, but adjustments are sometimes made. Serge
is an amazing character. How would you feel if you woke up to find
you'd been dead for 10 years? Ok, so that doesn't really say much about
Serge as a character, but it does build emotional attachment, which is
what truly matters as far as I'm concerned. All the other characters in

Once

Link is great because he's still Link. The underlying character is just
so good that it would take a lot to ruin him. Like making him a wolf in

Link
is a hero. Solid Snake is not a hero. Wolves are not heroic, but
they're supposed to make the game darker and more gritty and stuff like
that. If you don't see the connection, you just have to divide gaming
into two halves: legend and realism. LoZ has always been about the

to put it in Nietzschean/Board 8 terms, Link is the hero that fights
for the slave morality, but is not subject to it himself. He is a
superman, an alpha, but rather than oppressing betas he fights and
destroys all other alphas. And he wins every contest because he's just

barring the horrifically inconsistent characters (Missingno. and Big

The
link in Wind Waker (which is what I meant by Toon Link) is a distinct
character that is not related to any other Link. They say so in the

I hate Wind Waker as much as the next guy, but the designs for Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf are top tier. Twilight Princess actually had great designs too. Guess the artistic talent goes up as game design goes down! Also, Toon Link is the best thing that happened to smash bros., but I main him so I may be biased. |

I'd
be curious to see how Toon Link would do in a contest. The whole
separate Link thing is one giant clusterf***, but technically they're
different characters, so Toon Link should in theory be eligible.
Whether Bacon wants to deal with that crap is a whole other story. I think Toon Link would have no problem beating Dark Link, even if Dark had an OoT pic. --- Wylvane Guru Contest Winner Black Turtle is a wonderful user. |
The problem is "Mega Man" and "Mega Man X" refer to distinct characters. "Toon Link" and "Link" do not. They just refer to different art styles used to portray the different Links. While generally referring to the WW/PH Link, other games have used the Toon design that are clearly not the same Link. |
Since
I saw Tidus mentioned, that reminds me: Leonhart, I finally bought FFX
about a week or so ago to keep my word on our deal from Braid. I doubt
I'll do a playthrough-topic, but I'll keep you posted when I start it

modern FPS games in general more popular in the US than in Canada? They
do rely a lot on online multiplayer and I hear Canadian internet often

didn't know anybody that had an Xbox around here until the 360 was out,
so I guess that result kind of makes sense. Part of it is marketing
too. I don't remember the Xbox having as much of a marketing presence

Gears of War pulled through against Final Fantasy but is now going to lose to Fallout.
