I'm pretty surprised it isn't doing better in these polls. It's gotten an awful lot of hype, and I haven't heard a single negative opinion about it.

I love the game, and there is plenty of room to have negative opinions on it.

Scott Pilgrim earned a little less than $50 million worldwide. It was a flop, sure; but geez, it wasn't Death to Smoochy, guys!

I love the game, and there is plenty of room to have negative opinions on it.

I'm sure you're right, but even though I've heard a lot about the game, I have yet to hear a single person say they dislike it. That's definitely commendable!

Pretty sure the Scott Pilgrim game got rave reviews, too.

Plus the game screams nostalgia. Chip tunes, pixelated graphics, etc, plus being pretty much a spiritual successor to RCR (which, granted, is weak as **** here, but still).

I think a lot of it is just the game being good. Of course, a lot of it is also the game being on PSN.

I dislike the game.

...Well I think it's mediocre, anyway. Love the soundtrack and art style, but it sticks so close to ancient beat-em-up standards that it's a repetitive grindfest by level 3. I never finished the game, but I assume that I'm going to be walking to the right some more beating up more dudes. Yes, I know beating up dudes is the entire point to the game, but there's no variety to how you fight.

Personally I think MM/FFX is legit, though this is mostly because it lines up better with the 2009 contest (but lol 4-ways).

As far as Dreamcast goes, I'd take MvC2 > SA2 > Code Veronica > SA1 > Skies > Soulcalibur > Shenmue > PSO > Jet Grind Radio > Chu Chu Rocket > Space Channel 5 > Crazy Taxi (yeah lol the last three, whatever).

On the podcast the idea was being thrown around that Brawl was doing so badly in its last two matches specifically because there was a huge bandwagon attempting to prevent a hated game on a hated system from winning the contest. If this is true, it would only make sense for Melee to beat Brawl if they met in the finals.

I'd still take Portal over SMG. Even BioShock might beat SMG now. Ironically enough SMG > CoD4 is a lock however. Oh how things change.

The x-stats have The Sims > Baldur's Gate II > Deus Ex > Civilization IV, which seems like a pretty good order. It's still kinda weird that GameFAQs cares for this type of game at least the slightest bit though. The stats place The Sims on Modern Warfare 2's level, and I doubt anybody would've picked that pre-contest! It's probably just because The Sims is far more mainstream than the other three games I mentioned, which is basically the only way for a PC game to be all that strong in these contests (see also: StarCraft, Diablo II, and even the two Warcraft games to some extent). It's quite possible, however, that The Sims (along with GTAIII and maybe Halo for the same reason) overperformed due to the contest's name, as being one of the oldest and most important games of the decade it's only so natural to be a Smart Voter Magnet.

Team Fortress 2 is by far the strongest PC game. Sure it has the 360 Orange Box version, but that's a joke compared to what the PC has with Valve giving it constant updates over the last 3 years. It might as well be exclusive to PC, especially when that's where all TF2's strength comes from.

On the topic of characters, does anyone think that Other M might have hurt Samus in strength due to it's portrayal of her?

If so, where would she possibly be in strength?

I don't think so, but then again I've always been on the no game can ever lower your strength boat, especially for characters as developed as Samus. Even Sonic I blame on older people leaving the site while younger ones are less likely being his fan due to his newer games being terrible.

It seems more likely Other M will lead to 'lol Team Ninja *votes Samus still*' than Samus anti-voting. She still has the cool design, the pre-Other M games, Smash, and being the female face of Nintendo. I don't expect a boost from Other M, so she could still lose to Snake/Sephiroth, but she'll be beating the likes of Sonic as badly, if not worse, than she did back in 2004.

Samus should normally be fine, yeah.
But if we get an Other M picture where Samus is not in her Power Suit or whatever, that will probably hurt her. That likely doesn't have much to do with Other M itself seeing how we saw Zero Suit Samus bomb back in 2006, but reminding people exactly what they didn't like about Samus in Other M would likely not help matters. All bets are off for Samus vs. near elites if that happens.

Other M might even boost Samus. You saw how strong Resident Evil 5 is, right? Other M will probably only be a little weaker than Fusion...that's how little this site cares about "critical acclaim". I would still take Other M over something like Silent Hill 2.

In both 2010 contests, the Metroid series persistently impressed us. From Ridley turning out to be a decent midcarder to Samus breaking 47% on someone who would destroy her on other sites to Metroid Prime's run in the games contest, there isn't a single meaningful disappointment. At first I thought it was because of Other M being so heavily advertised, and that this would backfire on the series after Other M's release...apparently not.

Actually hold on...Dire of Cerberus boosted Vincent, and that game was FAR less critically acclaimed than Other M. I don't think Samus will boost because...she already did.

...Really? I would think Cloud would bomb on most non-JRPG sites, and gamefaqs pretty much started out as the Final Fantasy VII capital of the internet so he's probably stronger here than anywhere else. Unless Samus would also be weak elsewhere, which is somewhat arguable I suppose, depending on the site, but that's just a battle between weaklings, isn't it?

Final Fantasy VII is far more mainstream than any Metroid game, not to mention Samus draws most of her strength from Smash, which is again not as strong on other sites. It depends on whether or not Cloud could avoid anti-votes. But yeah, other sites are where both characters lose to Gordon Freeman and Kratos.

My assumption is based mostly on how I almost never see FF7 below any Metroid or Smash game on "Best Game Ever" lists nowadays, and how FF7 is universally regarded as one of the best games ever, which neither game in the aforementioned franchises can really claim. Obviously armies of next-gen, anti-JRPG gamers would probably differ, but then again it's not like either Metroid or Smash has had much of a notable presence this generation either.

Yeah, Samus would've had no trouble against Cloud on Gamespot, even if you exclude 4chan shenanigans. It was Samus who beat 4chan's joke wagon when Master Chief and Sonic couldn't. She's probably a solid #5 there after Gordon, Snake, Mario, and Link.
