Oh there is no way SSFIV beats DKCR. I wouldn't even take Reach to beat DKCR, adjusting for SSF though.

First, you make the mistake of assuming Monster Hunter Tri is weak. It sold well, got great reception, and has very strong running online support. There's even evidence of its strength here by it being the site's number one game for some time, and staying pretty up there even with competition like FFXIII and Galaxy 2 later on. Furthermore, it was also riding quite a bit SFF. But it would still kick the crap out of SSFIV. Rereleases are just weak here. Look at Okami Wii, for instance, it lost to No More Heroes, but then Okami stomped it in the GotD poll.

Secondly, Super Meat Boy. The fact that a downloadable game has as high as 6% is pretty telling that a poll's completely weak. For instance, let's take two downloadable games that are probably the two stronest, likely above Super Meat Boy: Braid and World of Goo.

Both have 5% and are getting destroyed... by LittleBigPlanet. Which is completely weak. Yep/ Now, granted, there's no RDR equivalent in that poll, but it's still pretty telling as to how ridiculously weak downloadable titles are. Among original downloadable games, those two are right at the top, and there they get demolished even worse than Super Meat Boy and Pac-Man in a poll filled with weak games. Sure, that poll didn't have any really strong games, but it still probably averages to stronger than this one! Everything in this poll except for RDR and ME2 is pathetic. You say ME2 would get about 44% with RDR's removal, and that seems like a good number, but the problem is that this poll without RDR might be even weaker than the hilarious 360 one.

Furthermore, SMG2 might not have a strong 2nd place, but it does have a lot of somewhat strong games SFFing it.

On some issues:

-Brawl was bigger at the time of its release than Melee was at the time of its release, true. But Brawl basically fizzled out on half the Internet after 0.5-1 years, while Melee...took some time to build up steam, but from 2003 onwards it is still going on strong...though to be fair part of my argument comes from professional websites. For example GameReactor (or whatever site it was) did a feature where they named the best two games on every console back in 2008, and they named Melee the best GameCube game while Brawl wasn't even the 2nd best Wii game. Similarly, in IGN's Best of the Decade feature, Melee made the top 5 of 2001 while Brawl didn't even make the top 10 of 2010. So I guess the conclusion is that most people prefer Brawl, while only hardcore Smash fans and isolated pockets of professional gaming websites prefer Melee. But I've heard people like Ulti say that GameFAQs is supposed to be the watering hole for real gamers...and Brawl > Melee is about the only case where it ISN'T true. Also just for the fun of it I'll post what I remember of that "best on every console" list:

NES - Super Mario 3 > Mega Man 2
SNES - Zelda: Link to the Past > Super Metroid
N64 - Super Mario 64 > GoldenEye
GameCube - Smash Bros. Melee > Metroid Prime
Wii - Super Mario Galaxy > Wii Sports

If Brawl truly fizzled out it would have lost to Melee, but not going deeper into that it doesn't change that Brawl was the bigger release. Again just because a game was a bigger release doesn't mean it'll be more popular. I would argue that some of the biggest releases in gaming this decade would be Halo 3 and Modern Warfare 2 and we all know how strong those games were.

Actually it is true. I would argue that almost every major gaming website would be closer to IGN's result than our result. I argued before this contest that this being GameFAQs would probably be Melee's best chance at winning other than on some tourney Smash fan site.

...Why?

Super Meat Boy really isn't much compared to Braid or World of Goo in terms of media attention and public awareness, in fact it may even be less well-known than Limbo. It's up there among downloadable games, sure, but even if it were slightly stronger than Braid, it's still just a downloadable game and those are terrible here unless they have an established franchise to leech off of.

Upon reflection though even without RDR this weak poll would still be a titan compared to the 360 one. Alan Wake>SSFIV and possibly Limbo>Super Meat Boy, but the 360 poll had a Yu-Gi-Oh game as one of the stronger entrants and Ninety-Nine-Nights 2, a game with universally bad reviews, called the worst game of the year on some sites, in the poll. Hell, people only even know about that one because of either how bad it is, or Konami's "brilliant" press conference spawning a bunch of memes(extreeeeeeme).

Braid is more of an artful game just like Ico while Super Meat Boy is actually a huge 2D platformer with loads of playable characters. It's more this site's cup of tea.

I think Lightning would take Rikku pretty easily. We've seen popular characters come from games nobody liked plenty of times. Dante/DMC being the foremost example. Characters just need a high play rate, and FFXIII definitely has that.
