SFF (Same Fanbase Factor) - Same Fanbase Factor is the theory that, if two contestants share a common fanbase, the weaker of the two options will underperform in a direct matchup. For instance, Link was expected to defeat Ganon with 65% of the vote in 2004, based on their 2003 values. Instead, Link collected near 88% of the vote. This is the best example of SFF we've ever seen. However take some SFF labels with a grain of salt, as many people will slap it onto any match that doesn't make perfect sense.

Extrapolated Standings - The mathematical "strength" of a contestant that's determined based on their performance relative to the rest of the field. This number is typically based on the contest entrant's loss, but adjustments are sometimes made. See above for a watered down explanation for how the stats are calculated.

Though I wouldn't complain if Galaxy 2 or Fallout: New Vegas wins (even though New Vegas was such a glitchy mess even for a Bethesda game that it has no business winning).

Seriously, Genie would rock nearly any Disney character out there.

Ehh, I just don't see it. I mean I realize what a big deal the Genie was at the time, but now that we've had to suffer through 20 years of animated movies where every talking animal is a wisecracking pop-culture referencing celebrity, the role doesn't stand out like it used to. What's going to drive votes in this context is nostalgia, and do people really look back at the Genie as one of the beloved characters of their childhood? I can't picture that, while I have no trouble imagining a slightly younger viewer having "grown up with" Woody and Buzz, for example.

Also I still maintain that, in terms of childhood impact for males on this site, The Lion King > Aladdin without too much trouble.

Oh, I totally agree that in a favorite movie poll The Lion King would beat Aladdin.

But movies do not = characters. I don't really trust Simba to channel the strength of his movie properly, just considering the type of character he is. People like his movie and have nostalgia for it and probably agree Simba had good character development or whatever, but do people really like Simba himself a lot? I'm not sure. He could be a beast (which would be fitting considering he's a lion!), but I could also see us having an almost Tidus-like situation there. I'd also be curious as to whether he'd be pic-dependent; cub vs Adult Simba. I see Scar as having a smaller strength range than Simba, because I'm pretty sure people do actually like him.

If you wanted FFXIII to fail, you should be ecstatic right now. The series has fallen so far in just a few short years. If this were 2006, it would be crushing this poll. FFXII also received a lukewarm response from gamers, and that would have won GotY if not for Zelda. Remember, it easily beat KHII. Heck, FFX-2 would have won GotY if not for Zelda.

In fact, I think the stats topic should go ahead and thank Zelda again.

FFXII winning GOTY would have been a fine thing - much better game than FFXIII!

I think this was about expected, though, assuming FFXIII doesn't do anything gross and comeback to sneak out a win against Brotherhood. The reception to that game just wasn't there - RE5 equivalent to Final Fantasy is how I've always seen it. Do people think it's an actively bad game? Maybe not. Do they particularly care about it? Not really.

Galaxy 2 should beat every game in this poll, though it MIGHT lose to Brotherhood (operating under the assumption that the GotD x-stats are 100% legit, and Galaxy 2 < Galaxy 1 while Brotherhood > AC1).

Personally I'd pick FFXIII to lose to FFXII. And I'd pick KOTOR to break 60% on FFX-2 now.

I think it's more the fact that the JRPG is a far less prominent genre in the current generation than it was in the last one (and don't even get started on the one before that, or the one before that for that matter!), and that we've had to wait 4 years between numbered, singleplayer-3D FF games that weakened the FF name, as opposed to a perceived quality drop. FFXII had universal critical acclaim on the time of release but now is often looked down even by professional gaming websites, for example IGN gave FFXII a 9.5/10 and named it the best PS2 game of 2006 (even though Okami somehow won its much deserved GOTY award) and yet where was FFXII on IGN's top 100 PS2 games list recently? It was...79th. Lol. What a reputation drop.

I haven't exactly heard the greatest things about New Vegas. Black Ops was a GOTY nominee at the Spike VGA awards, but who the hell cares about those?

I voted for Bayonetta out of blind loyalty to Capcom (well, Platinum Games, WHATEVER) though, and this kinda sucks.
