I'll support LPs replacing text FAQs on GameFAQs the day you can ctrl+F Youtube videos.

...actually, no I won't, I'd still really rather read for myself rather than having to listen to inevitably some of the most annoying sounding people in the world talk me through things at a tenth of my reading speed.

Video walkthroughs are most often ass, especially as a replacement for a general walkthrough. You can describe so much more so much more easily in words than with the video.

Wikis are definitely good, but only for some games. We don't need a wiki for DKCR, and honestly, we don't one for most games. It'd be weird to see some games have it and others not, people wanting it for some games that don't have it and it not being useful for ones have it, etc. It'd just be a weird fit, I think.
charmander6000 | Posted 1/6/2011 9:54:14 AM | message detail
I don't see wikis working here unless GameFAQs undergoes some major changes and personally I don't really want that much detail on a game unless I really like it and if I like it so much I usually take a look at the board which pretty much has all that information.

I'd love to see a Wiki on GameFAQs as in-depth as the Mass Effect or Fallout Wikis. Those things are comprehensive, and it's usually pretty damn easy to look up what you're looking for and find all comprehensive information about it. It's a great way, for instance, to look at bugs for certain areas and quests in Fallout: New Vegas, since god knows that thing is glitchy as hell. Instead of going through a giant FAQ of bugs or scouring the message boards/Answers hoping to find something similar, I just go to the quest/location/character page and see if they mention any bugs for that part to see if they have the glitch I have (which they didn't, sadly, god damn is New Vegas glitchy).

I think there's a ton of value in Wikis, and I don't think it'd hurt to implement them. At the very least, it'd make things a lot easier to find and would cut down on any spoilers that some FAQ creators love to include. The easier navigation alone would make things a god send. I've definitely used Wikis for the ME and Fallout games much more than GameFAQs. They're just that much more comprehensive and easier to navigate. Plus, it's faster to have a bunch of people combine their accumulated information than to have one person try to do it all himself, especially for large games that are nonlinear or have tons of side-content.

Match 111 was pretty thoroughly one-sided, only Vermont favoring GSC over Majora's Mask. Wind Waker also had only scattered opposition in Match 112, with Alaska, Arkansas, Kansas, Maine, Montana, and West Virginia on the wrong end. Thus ended Round 3.

Round 4 began with the Aloha State becoming the A-Halo State, as it scored an even 60% there while all other states preferred Fallout 3. This marked the fourth time that Hawaii picked one thing and everyone else picked another; only Vermont has as many matches in which they were a lone dissenter (4 when they were outnumbered 50-1 plus one where they were outnumbered 49-1 with 1 split). Hawaii's occasional tendency to go against the grain can be explained by their location, isolated from the rest of the country. Vermont's...I've got nothing. I even tried looking at the matches in question to see if Canada (or even the eastern part of Canada) was also in disagreement with the USA, but the country was always united on the same candidate that we had backed. I guess Vermont is just weird sometimes.

...Actually, upon further examination, I've found a pattern. The five matches in which Vermont disagreed were Dragon Age Origins vs. F-Zero GX, Kingdom Hearts II vs. Halo 2, World of Warcraft vs. Animal Crossing, Metroid Prime vs. Okami, and Majora's Mask vs. Pokémon GSC. Now, the two third-round matches fail to meet this criteria (and MM/GSC actually inverts it), but in all three of those first-round matches in which Vermont dissented had an RPG beating a non-RPG. Could it be that RPGs just don't go over real well in Vermont? They went against Kingdom Hearts II in its second-round match against BioShock as well, also registering among those who liked RE5 over Tales of Symphonia. ...Crazy Vermonters.

In the Northeast Division Final, Metroid Prime defeated Half-Life 2 349-189, dissenting states being Alabama (not shown on map), Alaska, California, Delaware, Hawaii, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Missisippi (also not shown on map), Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania (mapmaker was asleep at the switch today), Virginia (oh I give up) and Wisconsin. Oregon's loss moves Maryland into a tie for first.

Sadly, the nightmare can't end here, as Match 115 was Melee vs. Brawl. Melee won the popular and electoral votes here, taking Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Washington D.C., West Virginia, and Wisconsin and splitting Vermont for a 361-174 win.

W's just can't win. Meanwhile, Vermont joins Iowa, Maine, and Montana at the top of the indecision leaderboards.

Match 116 was a breath of fresh air, a clean sweep for Twilight Princess, and Match 117 was almost as decisive with only Montana picking Final Fantasy IX over Final Fantasy X. New Hampshire also deserves recognition for keeping FFX below 51%. Resident Evil 4 then took a 467-71 win over Portal, with the latter taking Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Idaho, Missouri, Oregon, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont, Washington, and Washington D.C.. Maryland takes sole possession of first place, which worries me because I thought Oregon's lead had been a good omen for the upcoming BCS National Championship Game. (My reasons for rooting against Auburn have nothing to do with the Cam Newton scandal and everything to do with the defense's reputation for playing like a bunch of thugs--see the end of the Georgia game and subsequent half-game suspensions for the Iron Bowl. Also, the SEC wins more than Link. Of course, "Oklahoma always chokes in BCS Bowls" and "Ohio State can't beat SEC teams" both ended this bowl season, so maybe the SEC stranglehold really could end.)

After that, we get...another patchwork map as SotC took on the Metal Gear series for a third time. It once again won the popular vote, and it just barely managed the Electoral vote, 276-259--tied with Fable for the fewest Electoral votes in a win in the contest thus far, although that match was the full 276-262. (And like SotC, Fable lost the contest battle in question.) Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming were the states that got it wrong (North Dakota the split), which puts Wyoming back on the bottom...and moves Louisiana to the top. DAMNIT SEC! After going 108-4 in the first three rounds, Oregon is just 4-4 here in round 4, an outstanding collapse. This following a merciful sweep in the final match of the round, Majora's Mask crushing Wind Waker.
TsunamiXXVIII | Posted 1/6/2011 1:04:56 PM | message detail
Metroid Prime took a surprisingly good chunk of Electoral votes from Fallout 3, the score being 370-168 with Alabama, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Mexico, New York, Rhode Island, Utah, Wisconsin, and Wyoming supporting Prime. Twilight Princess then took Alabama, Delaware, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming as Brawl won 459-79. Delaware, Iowa, New Hampshire, New Mexico, and South Dakota preferred RE4 to FFX, while Wyoming lacked a preference, and Majora's Mask scored a clean sweep over MGS 3.

Just to plant themselves even more firmly in the ground, Oregon supported Fallout 3 in the semis, joining Montana, South Dakota, and West Virginia. Then...something amazing. Despite the closeness of the overall match, Majora's Mask had no trouble taking the USA, 491-41. Alaska, Hawaii, Kentucky, Nebraska, Nevada, South Dakota and Virginia were the dissenters, with Mississippi split. Finally, the finals, and Louisiana wins going away as both Florida and Maryland stumble again. As for the final vote, it was quite close, 302-236 in Majora's Mask's favor. Brawl actually won the popular vote with 50.32%, carrying Alabama, Alaska, California, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Maryland, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Washington D.C., and Wyoming. Even if the bonus match were to be counted, Louisiana would have this locked up right now. (Not that it matters because Link swept Santa anyway.)

Final standings:

Florida

As in, with only 16 entrants? Nay, even though we can be pretty sure what the 16 options would be, noms would still in nice in terms of seeding the bracket. It could be reduced to only like 5 noms per person though.

Also I prefer to call it "Best System Ever", so we'd be able to include handhelds and the PC and remove some fodder in the process.

I'd take Woody/Buzz over any other animated option at this point. As for best outside of Pixar, I think I'd probably go with Simba... I get the impression that The Lion King was "THE" movie of their childhood for males from the age group we're talking about. I'd also put Aladdin ahead of the Genie.

And yeah, Mickey Mouse has fallen so far that he's not even close to being in this conversation anymore.

Votals should soar past the PS3 poll, but still aren't going to touch last year's Wii poll which was one of the lower ones... Ouch, GameFAQs traffic.

Also as I said, ME2 would have to be pretty monstar to beat this. I'm liking Galaxy 2 GotY.

Anyway, the 360 poll here may be even weaker than the Wii's legendary bad lineup last year. It says a lot when your clear #3 and 4 choices are both DLC. Of course, it's also unfair, seeing as how Fable should be here and easily securing second place.

Wii poll votals barely beat those of the PS3 poll.

And that demonstrates just how heavy Nintendo SFF is (as if we needed another demonstration). The Wii's lineup would crush the PS3's.

It's GO TIME.

BEST OF 2010: Best Xbox 360 Exclusive
Voted: Dance Central
It's revolutionizing the way white people jerk their bodies around awkwardly to music!

Prediction: Halo > Alan Wake > Dance Central
Wait, where THE FLIP is Fable 3? This was supposed to be the easiest 1-2-3 of the year! Looks like SB got confused by F3 being listed in the database as a PC game as well, even though it hasn't been released yet. I'm thinking there's still a good chance we see it listed in one of the multiplat polls (same thing might have happened to Sonic Colors). But yeah, Halo should score the biggest win so far against this sorry lot, Alan Wake disappointed but at least had some hype to keep it above the rest, and I'm going with the longshot for the Bronze. There is just so much buzz about Dance Central right now nationwide that I think it just might be able to overcome this site's overwhelming dislike for motion control. I mean people have to have been buying SOMETHING along with the 8 million Kinects that have been sold so far, right?

Reaction: Oh gosh, what a horrible 3% showing for Dance Central! ...wait a minute, it's BEATING 4 other options? This is a whole new level of pathetic! Even Alan Wake somehow manages to look awful here. Hmm, and oddly enough, there aren't even any other good Day Vote options in this batch despite it being an Xbox poll. Wonder if Halo could push it toward 50 tomorrow aft? That would be nice, but afraid it's still going to be doomed next round!

I'd also put Aladdin ahead of the Genie.

Why did no one call Ngamer out for this nonsense?

Seriously, Genie would rock nearly any Disney character out there.
