As a Zelda fan, the 2004 Games Contest was our greatest contest ever. It was the only contest where Zelda ever got owned. All 4 Zelda games were eliminated in a span of 5 days that produced 2 of our top 5 matches of all time, and we got the most varied, wonderful, final four ever. FFVII, CT, SMB3, and SSBM- 4 series, 4 generations, 2 representatives from both Nintendo and Square, and every one of the games well-loved quality games. Expand it out to the elite 8, and you add 3 sperb Zelda games and possibly our most interesting contest entrant ever, Starcraft.

I think the main difference is that to the casuals Final Fantasy doing well is laughable since this is one of the few major websites where that series does well, but on any other site Zelda doing well isn't shocking since the series would do well on any website.

Just cause you found some exceptions doesn't make them it any less true.

Zelda 1 has far more similarities to Twilight Princess than FF1 does to FF13.

It only gets worse once you realize LttP set the standard for every game after it.

Praise the Black Turtle, Game of the Decade Guru Champ.
(Well, I never promised creativity, did I?!)

It's commonly accepted that Twilight Princess is a great game, but nothing much more and not deserving of the monster strength it has on this site, even though Twilight Princess originally received boatloads of critical acclaim and has a 94% average on Gamerankings if I remember correctly. Final Fantasy XII is the same case but somewhat lower; game received near-universal critical acclaim at the time, including a perfect score from Eurogamer, but then everyone seemed to turn on FF12 later and regard it solely as a "good game". For example IGN originally gave FF12 its PS2 GOTY award and a 9.5/10, but on their top 100 PS2 games list FF12 was only #79. FF13 hasn't won over such big praise.

Both FF and Zelda would certainly be weaker at other sites (see Crispy Gamer's GotD contest where both franchises were gone after the first round), but LoZ > FF would be true almost everywhere by this point, especially with the last few LoZ games usually being regarded to be better than the last few FFs. That does include the DS games to some extent, which also received loads of critical acclaim.

Guru Contest Winner Black Turtle is a wonderful user.

DS ownership is currently at 70.71% right now, which is about 1% lower than last time. It will probably go up a bit before this poll ends, but I can't see DS ownership really increasing anymore from the all-time high of 71.73%. Since the 3DS will come out in a few months, which means game developers will start focusing more on the 3DS rather than the DS. Along with the fact that the 3DS will be able to play DS games, so anyone without a DS is more likely to buy a 3DS instead of a DS.

DS: Golden Sun: Dark Dawn
Given how popular the original is, I think this one would beat out HG/SS

PC: Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty
Not many options would appeal to GameFAQS here, so Starcraft should win pretty easily over Civ V.

PS2: I don't think anything of note came out this year.

PS3: God of War III
I was about to give the spot to 3D Dot Game Heroes before remembering that GoWIII came out this year. D'oh!

8 directions also prevents me from remembering what the heck is even in each division. Too general. I don't mind it if we had just four divisions, but 8? Too much.

Not like it even matters. It's not even a real bracket!

I disagree. Apart from the North division (because it's the logical first), I still have no idea which games were in which divisions. I'm assuming they go clockwise, but even then, you have to remember that Galaxy was in the fourth division (South). Much easier to call it the Galaxy Division or something.

Cute division names felt a bit to me like favortism when I first saw it. Like, name a division Hyrule Division, and Link will get more brackets supporting him. But it doesn't really matter to me.
