Perhaps the regional percentages don't update every 5 minutes? If we know how often those percentages update and come up with estimates regarding the distribution of votes over the day in a given region, we can identify vote spikes that are statistically significant in the region.

They update every 10 minutes.

CT fans aren't particularly good at this close match thing either. Frog has never lost a close match, but Crono is 1-5, and Magus....well you know what Magus is.

This loss would be the biggest knockout punch Square has had in a while. I mean, at least Crono lost to an unknown with ridiculous joke potential. This is a Zelda game that tanked last year against FF's established #2. Square can't afford to lose this.

And the future doesn't exactly look bright for Square. FFXIV is apparently a disaster, and their next big budget game is a spinoff of FFXIII, which itself might have been only moderately well received. Kingdom Hearts III has not begun development and is a good 3-4 years away if we're lucky.

Compare that to Zelda, which will likely get Skyward Sword and the OoT 3D remake in the next 12 months.

Well, I'm not exactly holding a lot of faith in it considering their recent history but Versus has most of the talented staff on it. It might be a good one.

Whoops, can't call them all. FFX is really bucking last year's trends right now....dunno why, unless it's that the West Coast ASV doesn't exist today at all and it did in last year's diluted ASV.

Cali had Majora with like 50.6% earlier; it's down to 50.37% now. FFX completely stalled out the West Coast ASV and may have even used it to make up a vote or two.

versus looked better than XIII ever since it was announced

pretty much everyone i knew who had seen teasers for both were more excited about versus.

The XII team isn't touching Versus, so that's a relief. But uh I'm assuming the XIII team shifted to Versus after they finished... so I don't have high hopes.

Maybe all the schools on the West Coast are already closed, while a good number of them were open on the East Coast.

Based on Monday's matches, it probably seemed like there was an East Coast ASV, but no West Coast ASV.

Some schools have call all the way until the 23rd. We're not sure just how many and it might not be consistant all across America.

That's just the thing with America. Very few things are standardized across the whole country.

Vote totals quickly fell apart in the 5:00-6:00 PM hour. The last update with over 400 votes was at 5:14 PM. The 5:14 PM update had 402 votes. But then the 5:54 PM update only got 288 votes, making it the first update with less than 300 votes since the 8:17 AM update.
