How come we always say the ASV starts bang on the hour? Is it different in the states or do schools not finish at 3pm?

When I was in school, I got out at 2:20 PM to get on the bus, but the buses don't take off until around 2:30 PM. As for when schools end in the US, it could vary by school. It probably ranges from about 2:00 PM to 2:40 PM as the ending time of school in the US.

Ah well I know British schools are typically from 9am-3pm.

I think elsewhere in Europe they go to school slightly earlier but finish around the same. It's been a hell of a long time since I was at school and so on a foreign exchange though so can't really remember, 7:30-8am through to about 3-3:30pm ish rings a bell though. I remember it was a shock that they spent a lot more hours in school than us,

Analysis

In a surprising twist Twilight Princess was not able to SFF Super Mario Galaxy while Kingdom Hearts II used the ASV to pull away from the original. These two games faced each other in the last contest and while Kingdom Hearts II kept it close enough to make this match debatable I personally don’t see myself pulling the trigger for the upset.

Some people were calling the Kingdom Hearts match SFF because Kingdom Hearts II was able to easily win it from the original and personally I wouldn’t be surprised if that was the case. Chances are a lot of people have played both games, but I think it came down to the people that didn’t own both games. For high school students when they started gaming chances are they never got the chance to play the original Kingdom Hearts unless they had an older sibling which is why Kingdom Hearts II could win the ASV and not SFF Kingdom Hearts in the process. Either way the two games are close to each other.

Maybe it’s because it is a Zelda game or maybe it’s because the memories of the performance of the Kingdom Hearts characters last contest is still fresh. Either way Kingdom Hearts II has to reverse the performance it did last year and personally I don’t see that happening. This will be another one of those close, but never in doubt matches.

This match (provided Brawl hangs on here) has so much WIN associated with it for me. It gives me a nice Oracle pick, it should put me on the leaderboard for the first time and it pretty much assures me of beating Allen, since we both have FFX winning it all.

Not going to get a prize, but this is a pretty nice consolation. ^_^

I don't like the extent to which Brawl is dominating now. I wanted a good, close match but Brawl might even sneak over the 1000 vote barrier here. It only needs 17 votes per update >_>;

Ah well I know British schools are typically from 9am-3pm.

High schools here start around 7:30-8:00 AM, but of course that can vary depending on the school.

That's actually a good point. Back when I was in school, I would see a lot of kids bringing their cell phones to school. And given the rise of mobile internet lately, some of them can vote while on the bus or shortly before getting on.

This is over. We've closing in on five hundred votes with not a lot of time left, and the time left is favoring Brawl. I'm glad a match of this magnitude ended up being respectable for both sides though, and having a midway-comeback during it is nice too.

So, since SSBB >= SSBM in a night-match (which likely favors SSBM), who wants to bet against SSBB now that it's got only day-matches and full matches ahead of it? It's beaten LoZ:TP twice before in full polls and it'll put down FO3 or smash MP, so its only "good" chance of losing is the championship...and since it's been hard to legitimately take FFX over either SSB-game this contest up to this point and SSBB's beaten RE4 before, it's looking good for the gold. If one of the other LoZ-games shock us after that final division ends, maybe, and it's hard to say what a bandwagon could do for SotC if that ends up being true...but don't buy into the Wii-hate a second longer. If SSBB can win its third SFF-match this contest by beating probably the #2 game here (a game in its own series, to boot), the voters realize games =/= systems. I don't see why Wii-hate matters anymore for it, unless you want to argue SSBB should be winning by more.

LOL, just entered the topic and saw all the predictions that Brawl would lead early but Melee would triumph in the end. Brawl's been kicking butt in the second half, took the lead just past the halfway mark and running away with it, won't even make the list of closest 1v1 matches unless Melee finds a way to cut.

Sp what do people think of the vote patterns this match? Melee won the Power Hour, holding its own and stalling the couple hours of the match, but then Brawl just took off. So was Melee's initial lead made entirely of die hard fans from the site who voted right when the poll went up? <_<

Yeah, Melee only won the true hardcore. Brawl pretty much took every other hour, and I'd guess it takes the ASV easily enough too. Ah well, at least this might open this things up in the final week, because Melee would have been untouchable. I still feel people will have reservations about giving this contest to a game from a console they hate. Something like RE4 may have a chance.

Oh well. As much as I wanted Melee to win, I was pissed with Melee winning. My gut said to go MGS3 > MM, and I ended up somehow with WW > MGS4 in my bracket (of course there's still a decent chance for SotC), plus I had MP > HL2....if Melee > Brawl as well, I would've been in outstanding shape if I had stuck with my gut for the bottom of the bracket. Now it doesn't matter.

OK, now I know Brawl will win (yay!), I want Melee to try and come back to at least keep it close. This match is too good/epic for it to be decisively over so soon.

Also ideas for next game constest. DO NOT SEPERATE games from each era FFS. Would love to seee Mario 64 against newer gsmes and NES/SNES vs PS2/Wii etc..

I would say they look about even. MM has had nothing but Night matches. People keep saying Night matches faovur it well i've got news for you people..Europe/Asia Don't like the N64/gC. Those consoles COMBINED sold half of what the wii has sold right now over there.

The problem with the Melee players, is that they got good by exploiting flaws in the game (character unbalancedness especially, how many high end players don't use some combination of Fox/Falco and Sheik?) whereas Brawl made an effort to make every character somewhat useful, which makes for a way more diverse and fun game. This is also why Smash 64 was so great. DK was the only really unplayable character in that game.

Yeah the Smash series winning GotD is pretty ridiculous. Even among Nintendo fans on other sites don't vote for them as much as we do.

Brawl barely lost to a much stronger MGS4 with TP in the poll. With MGS4 weaker, and Brawl looking as good as ever, I can't see anything except possibly FFX beating it.

I'm pretty sure Meta Knight is the most broken character in the series. Snake is also pretty damn broken with five projectiles and vicious tilts, but MK still makes him look like a scrub. Also, DK is perfectable playable in all three. Damn fun, too.
