PS: Also, I didn't mention it before, but good god, that GROUND. ZERO pic quite possibly the best EVER, period. There's not enough praise for whoever made it. Seriously, it HAS to be the wiki pic once the match gets compiled, if it isn't by default.

That pic is probably the best pic in contest history.

The simplicity of it means it doesn't really favour either side, it's really well edited, captures the magnitude of the match and is funny. It ticks all the boxes, whereas my previous favourite pics only ticked some.

Man after all this "SmartVoterFAQs", nostalgia for the older game, and Melee being much bigger at its time of release, we get this. I don't mind Brawl > Melee, but at least Melee was somewhat deserving of winning this contest. Brawl isn't at all.

I'll be rooting for Fallout 3, Metroid Prime, Resident Evil 4, Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, and Majora's Mask for the title now. Yeppers. Nothing else in the bracket aside from Portal is even remotely deserving to win this contest.

The SmartVoterFactor exists just as much in a Game of the Decade contest as it did in a Best. Game. Ever. contest.

Acclaimed games being strong isn't new.

Melee was never bigger than Brawl when it was first released, you silly.

Brawl was one of the most hyped games ever, and when it was released the site exploded. I have a challenge for you. Go to the Brawl boards, and look at the sheer volume of topics. There are almost 250, 000.

250, 000 since release.

And of course, it's a much bigger seller and is actually popular outside of America thanks to(believe it or not) the Wii. It also reviewed better... Really we could list the ways Brawl exceed Melee's reception all day. Not saying that makes it better, but it's definitely the more popular game, and Melee's nostalgia and ridiculously hardcore fanbase evidently aren't enough to block the more popular game from winning.

Fact of the matter is Melee was never more popular to a general audience, it just has that really, really dedicated core fandom which is why people took it. But gamers in general? Brawl all the way.

I'll admit that part of the reason I like Melee more now is because Link, Mario, and Samus were all nerfed in Brawl. Samus in particular, good lord. What is Nintendo doing to her? Though I liked her look in Other M and didn't have much of a problem with her voice, but still...

Didn't the whole "topics are automatically archived instead of purged" thing happen around the time Brawl was released in Japan? That mass board explosion due to leaks just happened at the right time, resulting in Brawl having a big head start in the number of votes category.

Brawl is just skullcrushing Melee with the North American morning vote here. Even after Europe/Asia/Oceania dies off, Brawl is still gaining here thanks to North America slowly shifting towards Brawl. The late morning vote might be more kind to Melee, but Brawl would likely have too big of a lead for that to matter anymore.
