Wow, that wasn't uploaded at the same time that the other 3 Melee/Brawl pictures were uploaded. The HTTP headers that I got from viewing the first 3 pictures showed a "Last-Modified" value of Wed, 15 Dec 2010 21:27:28 GMT while the picture that Rock linked to showed a "Last-Modified" value of Wed, 15 Dec 2010 23:08:01 GMT.

Analysis

This is the match everyone has been talking about. Usually hyped matches that occur late in the contest tend to lose a bit of their hype since their previous matches usually give us a hint on which game will win. This is not the case as neither game has changed the minds of the board. My analysis usually goes on to say why each game is the favourite, but this time I’ll be saying why previous results have no meaning in this match.

Going back to last contest Melee was held down by Wind Waker for two matches, easily won over Final Fantasy X because of Kingdom Hearts before getting crushed by SFF against Ocarina of Time. Brawl on the other hand was basically with the exception of Super Mario Galaxy the sore thumb in that division; just take a look at the picture for the division final of that match. Brawl was then held back by Twilight Princess before getting crushed by Ocarina of Time. You could argue that since Brawl held up better against Ocarina of Time it should win, but all that is saying is that Brawl was able to hold up against SFF better while Ocarina of Time and Melee had more in common. For example in 2004 Yoshi performed better than Ganondorf against Link and I’m sure no one would take Yoshi in that match.

Now for this contest Brawl had two Nintendo matches and through Disgaea didn’t perform that well against Valkyria Chronicles. Melee had a match against a total unknown that survives on apathy votes, a match against a Call of Duty game that has shown to be clearly weaker this contest and it too didn’t perform that well against Morrowind. I can’t really say which performance between Morrowind and Valkyria Chronicles was worse, but Melee does have the excuse that it was stuck in a night match, though Morrowind is more of a day game.

The real reason why I went with Brawl was because of this board. Outside of the few fighting fan sites that weren’t really that good, most of the best Melee players shifted to Brawl and are quite happy about it this board has the biggest whiners about the game because it isn’t a clone of Melee. I’m fine if you prefer Melee, but don’t act as if the two games are totally different. Yet whenever the Melee vs. Brawl poll comes up where almost everyone on the board votes Brawl wins. If Brawl can barely win in a place where it is one of the most hated on GameFAQs then I don’t see a reason why the game can’t win overall. Also no matter which game is the winner I doubt that the match will be close.

Snake was synonymous with SSBB's premiere and Sonic was the most requested character. If being a playable character like everyone else we've had in polls (aside from Sandbag and Master Hand) isn't enough, that should help too. It's certainly no worse than Sephiroth in KH2's picture.

It's not even that they aren't represented in any of SSBB's four pics today...they've not been in a single SSBB-pic this contest. in fact, since SSBB's debut, only Sonic has been in a pic, and it was just one. That isn't fair.

I don't care who wins - I think Melee is probably the better game from an objective standpoint, but in spite of its flaws, I love Brawl to death and slightly prefer it.

That having been said, though, I'm going to be really disappointed if this match isn't close. This contest has had quite a few overhyped duds - most notably MM/GSC and Sunlo - and it'd suck if this match turned out to be rather boring as well.
