Anyways, onto the next match. For Majora's Mask/Pokemon GSC, If you were to set both games equal, then Chrono Cross would get 55.71% on Mario Kart Wii while Mario Kart Wii gets 56.98% on Dragon Quest VIII.

In order for Majora's Mask to win, one of the following would have to be possible:

Chrono Cross gets at least 55.72% on higher on Mario Kart Wii.
Mario Kart Wii gets 56.97% or lower on Dragon Quest VIII.

I would say Mario Kart Wii easily gets at least 57% on DQ8, but I don't just like using GSC/MK Wii to judge GSC's strength because there could have been SFF.... but once tomorrow is done with maybe we'll get a better feel for that match.

True, I don't know how much SFF (if any) was involved in GSC/MK Wii. Would be better off trying to compare Chrono Cross and MK Wii on the basis of Majora's Mask/GSC being equal.

Hmm, MGS4 went on a brief tear there. Looks like SotC has contained it, and tbqh 660 is too much for MGS4 given the match so far.

I think SotC still has this, although if MGS4 gets close enough to do what MGS is known for, well, don't count on lightning to strike twice IMO.

This also makes SotC's chances to survive a night match against MGS3 look a lot worse, unless you believe in the power of THE BANDWAGON.

This is insufficient from MGS4. 15 vote cuts aren't going to, well, cut it.

That said, if it's within striking distance with an hour to go, it could very well take this.

MGS4 was doing better from 8:00-9:00 PM than it is currently doing from 9:00-10:00 PM. Nearly 200 votes cut during the 8:00-9:00 PM hour.

Y'know, people have been saying a night match might help in MGS3, but I don't see why. SotC has won Europe much more easily than any other continent (well, it's only won there and in NA...), and lower votals will make bandwagoning more effective.

Mario Kart Wii – 29.14%

Analysis

For a match that started out with a lot of people feeling pretty confident about turned into a real nail biter. Pokemon was never expected to win big against Majora’s Mask and both games have showed that they are heavy hitters this contest. It seemed that when SBAllen was making the bracket he was trying to set up the two Zelda games, so you would think he would be underestimating Pokemon yet he took Pokemon DPP over Brawl so I’m not sure what he thinks.

A lot of people were impressed with the way Majora’s Mask crushed Chrono Cross last round, but I think it was due to people trying to hype up Chrono Cross. If you ignore any SFF last contest Majora’s Mask would get 43% on Final Fantasy IX and if that was the case the game would lose right there. Of course that’s not the case, but it does show that Chrono Cross could have been significantly SFF last contest and still not even put up 33% on Majora’s Mask.

The main reason why a large portion of the board thinks Pokemon GSC has a chance was the performance from last contest where the game got 46% against Majora’s Mask with Pokemon RBY in the poll. While you could argue that Majora’s Mask would get a nice percent of RBY’s votes compare to MGS I do find it hard to believe that very many RBY voters would prefer MM over GSC as their second choice. The game also got over 46% against Metal Gear Solid which is something most people don’t see Majora’s Mask reproducing, of course Pokemon GS was quite the standout in that match so it is possible that the game overperformed.

Of course that was last contest, but personally I don’t see why people are down about its performances. Very few games would get back to back 70% performances and given that they were both new games with almost no information about them other than they would be weak I’d say Pokemon GSC did a decent job. Especially if you think the series suffers from slight anti-votes that prevent it from getting blowouts.

I’ve always thought Majora’s Mask would keep it close, but personally I’ve been more worried about Wind Waker. While we can make several comparisons with Majora’s Mask Wind Waker is a total unknown. I still think Pokemon takes this match, the series did reach new heights in the previous character battle and Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver should help.

Wow, only about less than 45 minutes to go. We may have another really close match here. If SotC does the same close victory it did last match here and in the division finals, it'll probably have a chance to get to at least the semi-finals.
