This
is definitely bandwagon. SotC vs. MGS2 set new records for closest
wire-to-wire match. Against MGS4, SotC has nearly reached the old
record, before the contest started, and we're not even 2 hours in. MGS4
got off to a quick lead from the board vote, then proceeded to lose all
but two updates past the five minute mark. I'm not usually one to call
matches early, but this one's over. SotC isn't going to be stopped here. --- Currently playing: Kirby's Epic Yarn |

All
the people on this board, and off this site, that were getting excited
about SotC potentially rampaging through the division were people that
weren't 'in the know'. By us I mean this board. I also find it funny if you think large part of the internet is constantly watching this contest, especially since there aren't any large SotC fan sites for people to get excited on. --- BOP Results: http://charmander6000.webs.com/GotD%20BOP.xls GotD Bracket: 156/172 Today's Matches: MGS3 & MGS4 |

proven it can beat MGS, and now people who wanted it to do good, but
thought MGS would win are now voting for it. |

From: XerWolf | #407 Equating winning over MGS2 to "proving it can beat MGS" is like Portal winning over FF12 "proving it can beat a Final Fantasy." Everybody knows that MGS2 is the weakest in the series (at least those that have any common sense), and I find it extremely difficult to believe that people said "Hey, this game just beat the crappiest installment in the MGS series. I should now vote for it over the better games, because it really deserves to win, now!" No, people said "lol wouldn't it be funny as hell if it went and screwed everybody by beating the other MGS games too???" This is joke voting at its worst, pure and simple. |

I'm
not sure SotC can win the contest even if it gets to the finals. MGS is
looking weak enough that Melee/Brawl would probably 60/40 it. R4 Starcraft in 2004v probably doesn't quite 60/40 R1 Starcraft, and that was with Halo, pseudo-Final Fantasy, and Zelda defeats behind it, and a huge offline rally base. It might be close, but I think that Melee can pull out a win in this case. Brawl has the potential for some sort of board backlash though, so who knows. I mean honestly, I'm not sure that SotC can even win two rounds from now. It will be facing a Nintendo near-elite in the day after all. Taking into account Sephy anti-votes which he gets every round, Missingno didn't even boost that much between rounds, albeit that was a different situation. --- "Ahem! The real people you want to be concerned with are the people inside GameFAQs. They're the ones who are bandwagonning this. Which is fine, but why would people bandwagon at this point? We have these kinds of people. I'm a SotC fan and would have voted for SotC regardless I'm a MGS4 fan and would have voted for MGS4 regardless I like MGS4, but seeing SotC defeat MGS2 was awesome and it might never get that chance again to do well I'll vote for SotC this time. The third option is the one that matters, but when casuals were very split (check the battle bracket, the game also had good support in brackets) why would they do that? Imagine if MGS2 won do you think fans would bandwagon the game because it had a close match with SotC that many thought would be close? (ignore the fact this is two MGS games) There was nothing surprising about SotC winning last round compare to any other game winning a match. With that said we may be in a different situation next round because like I said one's an accident, two's a trend. --- BOP Results: http://charmander6000.webs.com/GotD%20BOP.xls GotD Bracket: 156/172 Today's Matches: MGS3 & MGS4 |

If
GSC makes it to the quarterfinal, it will have gone through two Zelda
games and shredded tons of brackets itself to match SotC running
through the MGS series. Even if SotC does start to have a bit of a
bandwagon, so would GSC. Remember what Pokémon did to Zelda, specifically Majora's Mask, back in '09? RBY slaughtered it in round 1, then managed to pull off the win in round 2 with Gold/Silver LFFing it and a popular non-Nintendo option in the poll taking the easy first place. Gold/Silver also managed to remain respectable against RBY, so if you take the round 2 results to determine what percentage of RBY's strength GSC has and the round 1 results to determine how Majora's Mask would fare against RBY without unknown factors like STF and LFF, you get something like GSC winning with over 54% of the vote. Now, who would win in an SFF battle between MM and WW? If this were 2003, probably even 2005, the answer would obviously be Majora's Mask. Now, I'm not so sure, but...it still seems like GSC should have the advantage over Wind Waker as well. Besides, the last time no Pokémon entries were in the quarterfinals was Summer 2006. I think I like that trend. --- Currently playing: Kirby's Epic Yarn |

I'm not really sure how to interpret this one: http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=3504 I'm pretty sure that based on the comparison of how Gold/Silver did against Red/Blue/Yellow, this means that GSC would be able to win if it got to the finals against Melee/Brawl, but I'm not sure how taking Ocarina of Time out of the picture affects the percentages re: Pokémon's chances against FFX. I think that poll is close enough to suggest that RBY could beat FFX straight-up, but this isn't RBY, it's GSC, which scored about 42.88% on its older brother in their lone match together. All in all, I kind of wish the Smash Bros. games were on the same side of the bracket as GSC so we could see them go at it without having to get past FFX first. Also, regardless of who eventually comes out of it, I'm pretty sure that the winner of the second semifinal match is easily going to win in the finals. --- Currently playing: Kirby's Epic Yarn |

SotC isn't that strong. MGS4 isn't that weak. SotC has zero reason to bandwagon after beating MGS2. SOTC has more reason to pick up a bandwagon than it does to pick up joke votes. There's nothing 'funny' about beating a game like MGS4, you aren't sticking it to anyone by doing that, and SOTC isn't the kind of game that drives that point home. MGS2 isn't a weak game, MGS4 isn't a hugely popular game, SOTC is going further than most people expected -- a combination of all that is creating the result today.
