You guys should have joke voted Chrono Cross over Majora's Mask. And
the real thing here is that even without the increased 'support,' SOTC
would still be making a close match of this. It's not as though this
result is normally 56/44 or anything. --- The whole object of travel is not to set foot on foreign land; it is at last to set foot on one's own country as a foreign land. |

you know, we're still not going to know what order the MGS games are in since nobody trusts SOTC's bandwagon run here. --- xyzzy |
Lieutenant Kettch | Posted 12/13/2010 11:29:36 AM | message detail |
I don't agree with this bandwagon talk at all. It's far, far
harder for a game to get a bandwagon going compared to a cool/funny
looking character. If you haven't played Shadow of the Colossus, you're
not going to be voting for Shadow of the Colossus (except for a few
people on the board, and MGS haters who would have been voting against
MGS2 as well). The only game we've seen get one is Starcraft, and that
had massive PC communities to rally from. SotC doesn't have that. These trends also look nothing like a bandwagon. MGS4 is the one that started out strong. If the board isn't bandwagoning you can be absolutely sure that the rest of the voters aren't. And finally, MGS4 has reason to fall significantly. It's no longer the best new game and the only thing PS3 owners have to enjoy. I actually have no problem with it falling below MGS2 which has always been quite a strong game. --- Dr Football and Snake have won this round, but Sephiroth will rise again! |

I just find it funny that the people that love SotC the most are
getting extremely offended at their games possibly receiving joke
votes. But a bandwagon? That sounds so much better! --- DFF |
Greyfeld | Posted 12/13/2010 11:30:11 AM | message detail |
From: KamikazePotato | #450 It's kinda the same thing, the only real difference is the reason behind the increased votes for the game. One is a legitimate desire to see a game pushed further in the contest, the other is fueled by a desire to see everything/everyone else flop. |

charmander6000 | Posted 12/13/2010 11:35:20 AM | message detail |
The
way it's going to shape up charmander is that next round, it'll make it
look like MGS2>MGS4>MGS3. Pretty sure the majority of board 8
ranks the MGS series the exact opposite. How could there not be some
joke voting? It's a mix of both. Just because it feels right doesn't mean it is. Bowser defeating Yoshi was probably one of the biggest shocks in contest history to me. And really if people decide to go with MGS4 should they meet I wouldn't blame them, it isn't like the game is performing that much worse here. --- BOP Results: http://charmander6000.webs.com/GotD%20BOP.xls GotD Bracket: 156/172 Today's Matches: MGS3 & MGS4 |

I can easily see MGS2>MGS4. They both have the same hatebase for almost all the same reasons, and the main reason anyone thought MGS2 would be the weakest MGS is because of anti-votes. Really given how poorly MGS4 did in the first two rounds, this result isn't too surprising. Now if it went on to beat MGS3 by even more than this, I'd call bandwagoning. Not that bandwagoning is necessarily a bad thing by the way. The recipients are usually worthy in some respect, that's why they get bandwagoned in the first place. And SotC is an excellent choice. It's a more niche, well respected title that you will almost always find in a list of the best games of the deade. What makes it such a good choice for bandwagon votes is this reputation-It's something everyone can get behind.
