RE5
proved to me that GameFAQs voters can abandon a mediocre game from a
great series. FF13 only wins if there's a ridiculous amount of western
overlap and it sneaks into the final. even then, I might favour Galaxy. --- xyzzy |

FFXIII
has absolutely received a lot of backlash. Not sure how you can say
that, people have criticized the game from the week it released, others
generally don't care for it one way or the other. It will be more
popular than FFXII, but it won't be by much, certainly not enough to
put one losing to Portal 60/40 and the other going 50/50 with Fallout 3
- unless you think these two games are close. FFXIII has a great
comparison in RE5 - both came out early in the year, both received
plenty of backlash, both stopped being talked about a month after they

Yep. Mass Effect 2 should win GOTY, only other game I could imagine competing there is either Fallout or RDR. Mass Effect 2's chances of winning GotY are handicapped because of being released near the beginning of 2010. I went back through all of the past GotY polls and compiled a list of all the GotY winners and when their game was released. 1999 - Final Fantasy VIII (9/7/1999) 2001 - Final Fantasy X (12/17/2001) 2002 - Metroid Prime (11/17/2002) 2003 - Wind Waker (3/24/2003) 2004 - GTA: San Andreas (10/26/2004) 2005 - Resident Evil 4 (10/25/2005) 2006 - Twilight Princess (11/19/2006) 2007 - Super Mario Galaxy (11/12/2007) 2008 - Super Smash Bros. Brawl (3/9/2008) 2009 - Modern Warfare 2 (11/10/2009) No GotY poll for 2000 exists. All release dates listed above are for the NA version. Out of all the GotY winners, only FFVIII, Wind Waker, and Brawl were not Q4 releases. FFVIII was a Q3 release, while Wind Waker and Brawl were Q1 releases. Resident Evil 4 was released on the Gamecube in January. Oh yeah, you are right about that. I looked up the PS2 version instead. So make that 3 games from Q1 that have won GotY. It was head and shoulders the most loved game of 2005 on this site that year and imo sometimes coming out early can have a more positive effect...bigger time to buid fanbase. Also in this generation you have games which are prolonged by content. Mass effect 2 has had about 3 DLC's to keep it relevant throughout the entire year. made up another list. I went through all 10 of the GotY polls, took the
top 3 games and looked up their release dates. Out of all the games
that finished in the top 3 for their respective year, here is the

is a Wii game yeah,BUT it is a sequel from a game that first appeared
on N64(which everyone loves),then on GC(which fans of Nintendo love)and

judging by AC2's strength i wouldn't be surprised if Brotherhood does
get mroe votes than all those other games. AC has become a top top
Franchise now even on this site and brotherhood seemed to have gotten
more praise than those, especially New vegas which isn't going to win
GOTY anywhere tbh. Well we did pick Brawl which didn't where GotY anywhere else. I may be wrong, but Fallout: New Vegas, Call of Duty: Black Ops and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood all sound like quick money grabs by the companies. Final Fantasy, yes it is. The series is so big critics don't even dare
dock it to its real value. So instead of giving it the 6 or 7 it
deserves, they go with 8 or 9 to avoid dealing with the mobs of angry

From: Pizzaknight | #289 I dunno, I don't use gamerankings, I use metacritic (which is a difference of a 92 for FFX and FF12, and an 83 for FF13). The thing is though, you're not looking at a 10 point drop from one website, you're looking at an average 10 point drop, which means that a LOT of different websites dropped their ratings from one installment to the next. So yeah, 10 points is pretty huge, especially for a franchise who put out 5 single player games in a row that all scored a 90+. |
