SFF (Same Fanbase Factor) - Same Fanbase Factor is the theory that, if two contestants share a common fanbase, the weaker of the two options will underperform in a direct matchup. For instance, Link was expected to defeat Ganon with 65% of the vote in 2004, based on their 2003 values. Instead, Link collected near 88% of the vote. This is the best example of SFF we've ever seen. However take some SFF labels with a grain of salt, as many people will slap it onto any match that doesn't make perfect sense.

Extrapolated Standings - The mathematical "strength" of a contestant that's determined based on their performance relative to the rest of the field. This number is typically based on the contest entrant's loss, but adjustments are sometimes made. See above for a watered down explanation for how the stats are calculated.

won't happen since it's a night match and night matches suck ass. People will be able to predict that match from the first hour. If melee has over 55% lead it will win the match, if it's below that the overnight bleeding could help Brawl overtake it. If brawl is winning then game over and lol melee.

I think "series starter" is definitely more important in a series where the ongoing story arc is important, such as KH.

With Halo, even if you never owned an Xbox, you could jump into the series at Halo 3 with little to no problem, because of the multiplayer aspect.

I would wager that the amount of people who played KH2 without ever playing KH is minuscule. I have KH2 in my bracket (and I'll be on the leaderboard if it wins, 99.9% sure), but since KH should have a higher playrate than the sequel just based purely on logic, the devoted fanbase should have to significantly prefer the sequel for KH2 to win.

That is solid rationale. I'm assuming you expected the devoted fanbase to significantly favor KHII?

For some reason I feel like the kiddies will SLIGHTLY prefer KH2 with the ASV.

Also that pic is awful. Whoever did those made absolutely no effort to make them distinguishable with the logo. Very frustrating.

Also Jakyl, while I like your theory, I think an improved sequel can have the intrinsic popularity to beat a series starter regardless of genre. I think we'd all take Mass Effect 2 to beat down Mass Effect, for example. ME2 may even have the higher player rate at this point.

I'm really happy with the pic because it keeps out the insane plot of KHII as best as possible (no characters in it from after KHI) *and* gives goofy ass clown shoes factor to KHI.

Different scenario, though. DMC3 received little hype and followed a stinker. Heck, I'd argue that the series was already dead by that point; it hit its peak with the original. KHII was insanely hyped. Fans of the series were practically dying for it.

DMC3 didn't sell that much less than the original, either. It's technically, objectively, and by and far away considered the better game by everyone in existence. It's also weaker than the original. That's just how these things work.

Yeah if that trend holds, KH got this, but I can see both of them evening out as the match progresses.

IF the geolocation trends held throughout the ASV, we could see KH2 spikes for the Eastern and Pacific time zones, and KH spikes for the Central and Mountain time zones.
