The only thing that makes this result less painful is that I don't get the hate for Twilight Princess and I like seeing it do well in these contests just to spite those people. Seriously.

This is more or less where I expected TP to end up (assuming that Galaxy is a little stronger than last year and was stuck with LFF, while TP is a little weaker), anyways. What's up with all the 67%+ predictions?

So...if you hold Galaxy equal to last year I guess TP gets 57% on CoD4, meaning 38% on SSBM. Lol. Actually, let's check some things:

The closest comparison was actually FF12 but I didn't feel like using a game from that division. So if TP is actually as strong as the x-stats imply, Galaxy is now on MM's level. In the end though TP is likely weaker than this, so maybe Galaxy a little below Wind Waker...placing Galaxy and Prime as near-equals, with both on the same level as games such as Fallout 3 and Half-Life 2.

Man imagine if Galaxy was in Prime's position.

I just keep looking at the possibilities for that last Final Four spot, it's just crazy and I can't figure out what's going to happen. Mostly because I leaned one way originally and I was convinced by the board to go the other way, and the matches we've had so far just make them seem even closer. We have MGS3 vs MGS4 as the one divisional final, then potentially Majora's Mask vs Wind Waker as the other divisional final, with GSC still having a very strong presence and opportunity. I know GSC was the pre-contest favorite to get the Final Four spot, but I could never believe it would beat LoZ, and I know there's been debate during the matches about whether people still think it can.

So we have five games with a definite shot at taking the last Final Four spot, and they all seem pretty even in strength to me. We'll have MM vs GSC this round, with the winner of that vs WW next round along with MGS3 vs MGS4. Then those winners face off, if you can even predict what that match will be at this point.

When the bracket first released, I ended up with MM > MGS3 on my speed bracket. My real bracket ended up with MGS4 > WW. I honestly feel a little better about my speed bracket at this point, but who knows....that bracket also had Super Mario Sunshine in the Final Four as well before I realized how ridiculous that was.

Is there any sense of clearness to this picture? Or is it still completely up in the air? Could we maybe rank those five games' chances of making the Final Four?

I have this maybe-weird sense that MGS4 would have a better chance at beating LoZ/GSC than MGS3, even if 4 might not be directly stronger than 3. Maybe it's the generational gap, or perhaps 4 has a better chance of exceeding expectations. I'm really not sure which game is more highly regarded amongst MGS fans.

Analysis

If there was one same series match that I’m happy SBAllen put together it was this one. Sure Melee/Brawl was good too, but those two would have met if you placed them anywhere with only Final Fantasy X being any threat. The best part is no one can really be sure which game will win. Seems like the majority of people think that the original will take it and personally I agree.

The reason why I’m going with the original is because it was the bigger game; just take a look at the site shift in 2003. Sure Kingdom Hearts II was a large release as well and while many of the problems for Kingdom Hearts were addressed it wasn’t as big for GameFAQs. Besides it wasn’t like there were many big problems with the original either. Based on their performances earlier this contest I would have to give it to the original, Bioshock got a little too close to Kingdom Hearts II. I know it was a night match, but despite what some people on this board wish I don’t see the game being that strong.

One thing that the two Kingdom Hearts games have in common is that they both aged pretty well on GameFAQs. The original almost lost to Soul Calibur in the 2004 games contest while the sequel easily lost to Final Fantasy XII in the GotY. I’ve backed Kingdom Hearts since the beginning and it hasn’t given me much doubt so I don’t see why I would back out. Personally I don’t expect much SFF, but the option is there.

i don't think it has any bearing on Melee/Brawl. I said this about Halo match but KH1 and KH2 were on the same console in the same generation. Melee/Brawl had 7 years and an entire generation between them. KH2 is esentially the first game with different disney worlds and older characters. it's a 50/50 split. with Melee/brawl there will be more vocal fans from each side, not gonna happen here. My vote goes to KH2 because i think the soundtrack was better and Xaldin FTW.
