Western games have been trending up on this site for a long time. Of course Call of Duty 4, the one good game in that series, was going to do "respectably" (if that's what we're calling barely breaking 30% now) against Melee and get rSFFd by Perfect Dark. The current match means nothing at all, as Brawl is failing to score any SFF. Melee to break 60$ with ease.

This is a dang good reply from Brawl about Melee's last performance. I think Brawl probably won R1 and R3 while Melee probably won R2 by a bigger amount and was more nominated, so it still looks even. Don't forget that IGN-poll though; Brawl was beating Melee and the original SSB combined there.

I'm still backing Brawl...but it's not going to be pretty for either game.

Today's results could've went =/- 10% and everyone would still be saying the same thing they are saying now and making excuses.

Brawl with 82%: It's clearly SFF!!
Brawl with 62%: It's freaking POKEMON!!

Brawl vs Melee can still go either way, and like pretty much every debate in every fighting game forum, is gonna come down to a matter of casual vs. hardcore fanbase.

Have this poll a year after brawl first comes out and everyone hates brawl cause its not melee? Melee wins easily

I would pick Fusion every day of the week over Perfect Dark.

Not sure why you would. Pre-contest, I think pretty much all of us would easily pick PD there. PD is pretty beloved. I suppose the games are closer than we anticipated, but I still have a hard time seeing PD lose that match.

Melee looks a lot better based on today's matches to me.

They both still look pretty indistinguishable to me. I favor Melee only because I think the fanbase prefers it slightly - though I think the match will be pretty close.

If by this you mean the winner will blow out the loser, I disagree, I think it will be pretty competitive. <55% for the winner is my guess.

Brawl was probably at its strongest when the hype was highest. It's probably a bit weaker now than at its peak.

Link doing 1% better in 24 hours than in a night match is pretty reasonable. With most 24-hour matches, you don't see a huge shift between the first 12 hours and the 2nd 12 hours. Stuff like CT and KH is the exception rather than the rule. In Zelda/Terra, I remember, Zelda did 4% better in the latter 12 hours than the former, and the 24-hour result was about halfway between those (2% shift from either), and Zelda vs. FFVI is a pretty big day/night difference.

Analysis

One of the things that we wanted to see was whether or not Galaxy was as weak as it showed last contest. The first two matches weren’t very telling and now Galaxy is up against the other Wii game that is stronger than it. I know SBAllen set up a few SFF matches, but this one we really didn’t need to see.

I think that the degree of SFF that Twilight Princess will hand out will be less than what Brawl did last contest. For one thing Twilight Princess doesn’t get all of its strength from being a Wii game since it was also released on the Gamecube and while they are both Nintendo games I feel that Galaxy would have more of an overlap with Brawl than Twilight Princess since Brawl probably appeals more to Galaxy fans than Twilight Princess. On the other hand I don’t see it being that big of a difference so it probably doesn’t matter in the long run.

Last year Brawl was able to break 70% on Galaxy and with Twilight Princess being slightly weaker than it I don’t see it breaking that mark. It should still however get a doubling though should Galaxy pull the impossible and resist SFF I can see the game getting up in the high 30s which would be a great performance.

Link ending 1% higher against Alucard than what he had at noon seems reasonable, actually. IIRC, it was a weekend match, and Zelda/Nintendo does most of its gaining in the morning. Link would have probably have peaked around 6 PM, and given some ground back after that. IIRC, Crono lost a bit more than 1% off his noon percentage against Link/Mario/Samus, on an ASV day, even on a weekday it shouldn't be that big a shift. The fact that the percentages were in the 70s might make the shift a bit smaller than if they were in the 50s, I think (but I have no mathematical reasoning for that).

It's very rare to find a situation where switching to 24-hours will change the result by more than 2%. 3% is a very extreme shift, and tends to involve Halo, Smash, or KH, and/or something with a truly abysmal day vote.

It was a Wednesday and Link only gained like 0.5% on Alucard from his lowest percent (again remember Alucard has one of the worst day votes too).

We also have to remember that continents have shifts as well. Look at Melee/CoD4, it suggests that Melee would win the ASV quite easily and personally I doubt that it would, CoD4 has a crazy ASV as well and considering Melee's crazy beginning I don't see it gaining much if at all.

If Link wasn't rising fast with the morning, that's even more evidence he wouldn't have gone up too much in the afternoon. I'm not sure what you're saying about Melee/COD4- of course Melee would have won the ASV, it has an ASV unmatched by anything save maybe Halo and KH. Geolocation shifts are generally really small (and Melee actually did a lot better in North America against COD4).

And right, I was thinking of Link/Thrall for the weekend thing, sorry. Don't think it changes much though. If Link would have gone up more than 1%, 1% is probably still a better adjustment than 2%. I think cn's day/night adjustments were generally very good- obviously not based on stats, but pretty accurate nonetheless.
