SFF (Same Fanbase Factor) - Same Fanbase Factor is the theory that, if two contestants share a common fanbase, the weaker of the two options will underperform in a direct matchup. For instance, Link was expected to defeat Ganon with 65% of the vote in 2004, based on their 2003 values. Instead, Link collected near 88% of the vote. This is the best example of SFF we've ever seen. However take some SFF labels with a grain of salt, as many people will slap it onto any match that doesn't make perfect sense.

Extrapolated Standings - The mathematical "strength" of a contestant that's determined based on their performance relative to the rest of the field. This number is typically based on the contest entrant's loss, but adjustments are sometimes made. See above for a watered down explanation for how the stats are calculated.

What goofing up is he talking about, Luster? Is your final Halo > Final Fantasy 9 or something?

No, not that goofing up. With some of my brackets, I picked Brawl > FFX while I had Melee > FFX on some of my other brackets. The goofing up was related to when I filled out brackets on all of my accounts. Out of my 224 brackets, 178 of them were affected by a glitch in which most of my brackets claim to have 0 total points on them, despite the fact it was a fully completed bracket. If you want an example of this, look at this screenshot:

It shows 0 points on the bracket. I filled out a feedback ticket a few weeks ago about this problem and I got this message back:

Problem is, and you've probably already realized this, you never actually visited the bracket page with any of those accounts. The first page visit triggers the creation of essential data, and without that, there's no contest entry.

He's right about that. When I filled out brackets on all of my accounts, I used a trick to speed up the process of filling out the brackets without viewing the bracket entry page (gotd_entry.html). At the time, I was not aware that using this trick would result in most of my brackets being useless. Now that I know this, I know of a way to still use that trick and also avoid having my brackets being useless. I just need to make sure that after filling all of my brackets out, I need to have all of my accounts view the bracket entry page at least once before the bracket entry phase closes.

When I said "worried" I meant like, it's the only result like that that I'm worried about.

I'm more worried about MM than I am FFX. If GSC makes it that far, there's NO WAY it misses the finals.

For the first time, I think I want to see FFX beat something.

GSC can absolutely beat FFX if it gets that far. I'm more worried about Majora's Mask.

How can you be afraid of MM and still think it has a chance on FFX? FFX hasn't performed that badly.

9 is a great game, but a lot of its fans act like its flawless or something. X isn't flawless either, but at least there isn't massive loading times and having a named attack for EVERY SINGLE THING an enemy does.

10 is a technically better game than 9 (this coming from someone who likes 9 more), but 9 doesn't deserve to get eaten alive by SFF like it will be.

for me, the good in FFIX outweighed the bad a lot easier than it did with FFX.

I don't think there's that much of a difference between FFX and Majora in a 1v1. I could easily see it being as close or closer than GoW/HL2 is now. That could be proven way wrong in a few days, but I think it will have a fine showing.

You know, now that we've got KHII/KH coming up, Melee/Brawl, and (possibly) MM/WW, it's time for me to retcon my Halo 3 > Halo 1 reasoning and twist it into something more reasonable.

The more I think about it, the more I realize that Halo 3 beating Halo 1 was actually pretty foolish. Saying it would win based off of 360 > Original is like saying Brawl will beat Melee simply because the Wii sold better than the Gamecube. Which is a legitimate argument, but not a substantial one.

The main reason is that Halo 1 kicked off the series, and Halo 3...what did Halo 3 do, exactly? It wasn't the first online Halo game (That's Halo 2). It wasn't the one that ended the series, considering we still have Halo Wars, Halo 3: ODST, and Halo: Reach. Hell, even if you had an Xbox 360 and wanted a shooter, there were also Gears of War and Call of Duty 4 to keep you occupied if you so chose. If Halo 3 indeed was your first Halo game, you would have no idea what the hell is going on, especially considering the game only really exists to wrap up the cliffhanger at the end of Halo 2. And indeed, that's the problem with most of the Halo games. ODST runs side by side with Halo 3, Reach is a prequel, and nobody likes Halo Wars. As a result, Halo 1 is the only game to really stand on its own, which is why it has the strength it does in this contest.

That said, even after all that, the best Halo 1 can do in a direct matchup is 57-43? With possible SFF in there? I guess a lot of people really do like the bigger and better game. Look out, Kingdom Hearts, look out, Melee.

X's big problem is having one of the worst localization teams in history. X is as loved in Japan as 7 is in the USA, but voices can break a character really fast. Tidus and Yuna had such bad VAs here that X will always have a certain barrier that it will always be unable to break. The VAs did an outstanding job in Japan, which is why the game gets so much credit there.

But the gameplay? Absolutely outstanding, even for an RPG with random battles.

He doesn't need to be. Tidus' voice is realistic, his emotions are realistic, and his readings are fine. Tidus' voice goes a long way to making him a good character.

The problem isn't the voice, it's some of the lines the voices are given. I guarantee Tidus beats Sub-Zero if the laughing scene never existed.
