The analysis crew seem to think this is going to be high 60s at best. I dunno though: FFIX tripled a PW game and I'd take GSC to beat FFIX. I doubt the PW games are far apart and MKWii struggled with one. Plus possible SFF. This should be past 70%.

I think the Crew is lowballing GSC because Pokemon has trouble with blowing stuff out (which has yet to really be proven, but now is as good a time as any).. MKWii could do well here today and I'd still never take it over DS.

TP got 78% on PW last year so GSC getting something like 72% is very possible, I just think we're afraid to put Advance Wars so close to MKWii.

Some projections based on what Mario Kart Wii might get on Advance Wars:

If Mario Kart Wii got 60% on Advance Wars, then GSC would be expected to get 66.60% here. If Mario Kart Wii only got 55% on Advance Wars, then GSC should be expected to get 70.31% instead.


Personally, I'm leaning closer to 55% than to 60% on what Mario Kart Wii gets on Advance Wars.

I wouldn't expect GSC to SFF MKW like SSBB did to MKDS, but it doesn't have to in order to score a tripling here. There's a chance GSC beats MKW worse than it did Advance Wars. PW:AA only got 22.57% on LoZ:TP in BGE2, and MKW > PW:AA by a little while GSC should still be close to LoZ:TP. I don't really buy PW:AA being SFF'd there, but even if it did then PW:AA probably also benefited from four-ways and GSC may SFF MKW some. FF9 also tripled PW:TaT; while this is a stronger overall-match than FF9/PW:TaT, I don't know if the gap between PW:TaT and MKW is that much bigger than the gap from FF9 to GSC...before or after SFF.

As long as it breaks 70% though, I'll still feel decent about GSC. We're just not going to get a great read on it unless it does really really well or really really bad.

I'd probably take Advance Wars to give Phoenix Wright one hell of a match, and probably win... which means it'd be in the high 40s against MKWii. Maybe I'm just wildly overrating it though!

Hey Now, Mario Kart Wii was great as a transitional tool for beginners to get used to other Mario Karts. Give anyone a classic controller and they can powerslide in 5 second, unlike MK64 or some other ones. Ban the stupidly fast heavy-class bikes and you have a really great social Kart Racer, plus everyone gains sliding experience so MK64 becomes easier for them in the future. Yeah, it had balance issues, but if you play it with friends you can make an amicable agreement and erase them, using social aptitude to create a fun, light-hearted game.

Which perfectly explains why nobody on this site is voting for it.

Mario Kart Wii managed a paltry 53% on Phoenix, whereas Chrono Cross nearly had 62% on DQVIII. How big a win are we really giving Phoenix against DragonQuest? CC should take this MK game easy.

Considering FFIX's performances at the moment, all four of those games are looking like gold if Half-Life 1 still holds up... and it had no reason to go anywhere but up since 2004.

Is there a way to know which entries are actually eligible for prizes? If both guys ahead of me are only karma entries then there is little reason to risk anything on TTYD, correct?

You know, I've got Pokemon in the semis as well, but I'm not feeling nearly as confident as some others. I'd call it a toss-up right now and will likely favor MM in the Oracle unless there's a huge picture advantage.

It being a night match would probably favour Pokemon just a bit, the game isn't as hated in Europe and Asia as Zelda.

Yeah, if this falls under 70% and stays there, I'll call this a toss-up instead of favoring GSC like I have been. That said, let's not act like we know much about Wii Sports, CC, DQ8, MKW, or Advance Wars. The only opponent from this eight-pack we really had much reliable on pre-contest was four-way Phoenix, and it's now behind a muddy match. People have been skeptical of every match LoZ:MM and GS had last year for one reason or another, and inter-fanbase matches don't make this one any easier to call.

If LoZ:WW would have given GoW2 and AC2 to each of these two, we'd have some better room for judgment directly between these two. It's worth saying that LoZ:WW should be decent enough of a proxy to compare with LoZ:MM though, and it's been doing well.


This division will be heated in R3 and R4.

I have Pokemon G/S/C to the finals losing to Melee and even this is not a good performance for a game that's suppose to kill two Zelda games, one after the other.

The idea that CC would lose to Mario Kart thanks to that poll it shared with FFIX and OoT is kind of ludicrous, too.
