I
have MGS2 as my pick, but i think i want SotC to win just because of
how funny it'll be for everyone to lose a crapload of battle points.
Normally i wouldn't care but i doubt any of the potential winning
brackets have SotC to win and at the same time not many casuals would
so in the end this match is such an upset to the point it won't effect
anyones bracket. --- Did you know that? No? Neither did i. |

SOTC
is actually a Sony-owned property, too, but I don't think we should
attach Sony to these franchises. It's more a case of MGS understandably
dropping off with its lack of relevance in the past couple of years,
and Square just being pretty miserable all around this past decade. --- There are no foreign lands. It is the traveler only who is foreign. |

wonder why Kingdom Hearts is seemingly "exempt" from these mediocre
performances and so well received these days. The original is looking
like a potential Top 5 entrant, and the sequel lost easily to FFXII in
GotY voting (early 2007 wasn't THAT long ago) but would torch is
mercilessly now. Kingdom Hearts has really caught on over the past few
years, but it's hard to rationalize the reason for it. Maybe because

MGS?
Absolutely. That isn't to say that Metal Gear isn't popular, that
people don't like it, but it peaked a couple of years ago with Brawl
and MGS4 -- it was everywhere in the media, everyone was hyping it,
everyone heard about it. Now, a couple of years later, there's not a
MGS game that anyone is really looking forward to -- one came out on
the PSP and no one paid it much attention, the next one for consoles is
something entirely different. MGS just isn't ingrained in the public
mindset like it was before, and MGS4 in particular has suffered a great
deal of backlash since it came out in 08. These were the arguments made
before the contest about why MGS games weren't going to be as strong
here, and I think they were pretty dead on. --- There are no foreign lands. It is the traveler only who is foreign. |

It was. MGS2 on the Xbox was just Substance, which came out on the PS2 as well. --- The whole object of travel is not to set foot on foreign land; it is at last to set foot on one's own country as a foreign land. |

really think KH has a more separate fanbase from FF than people think.
Maybe I ascribe too much to FFX's failure to SFF it in '09, but to me
that proved it. Though I'm probably biased due to most gamers (17-19

Kingdom
Hearts/Kingdom Hearts 2 might be seen as the last great mainstream
Square game. Heck, it's probably done more for Square in terms of
relevancy than FF this decade. Has there been any really well-received

I don't think you realize how quick people can turn on a game after the hype wears down. Again, it's not to say that MGS is unpopular, but it enjoyed a certain amount of success that was always going to be brief. Kingdom
Hearts definitely has a distinct fanbase, even though it does overlap
with Final Fantasy. It's certainly much more popular in America
compared to everywhere else in the world, whereas FF is pretty much the

Would
anyone here roll the dice on Portal against MGS4? Remember that Portal
was consistently (twice) 63/37'd by MGS4 in 2009. I'd at least consider

that I think about it, I think we're kind of seeing a trend here with
certain games in 4-ways compared to 1-on-1. A lot of games that are
considered to be "hated" are definitely doing noticeably worse 1-on-1
than they did in 4-ways. World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy XII, MGS2,
and maybe others. Those games definitely aren't looking anywhere near
