SFF (Same Fanbase Factor) - Same Fanbase Factor is the theory that, if two contestants share a common fanbase, the weaker of the two options will underperform in a direct matchup. For instance, Link was expected to defeat Ganon with 65% of the vote in 2004, based on their 2003 values. Instead, Link collected near 88% of the vote. This is the best example of SFF we've ever seen. However take some SFF labels with a grain of salt, as many people will slap it onto any match that doesn't make perfect sense.

Extrapolated Standings - The mathematical "strength" of a contestant that's determined based on their performance relative to the rest of the field. This number is typically based on the contest entrant's loss, but adjustments are sometimes made. See above for a watered down explanation for how the stats are calculated.

Noble Nine - Link, Cloud, Solid Snake, Sephiroth, Mario, Crono, Sonic, Samus and Mega Man.

Figured something like this would happen here. There wasn't too much reason to believe FFXII had a real shot at this one, not after how it did against Crisis Core and what Portal did to Gears. Figured FFXII could have managed 41-42%, though.

I don't know how to look them up, but does anyone have the Gurus and Oracles for MGS2/SotC? Am I really the only one who thinks that MGS2 winning would be the upset?

SotC has never looked -bad-, but MGS2 just feels a lot safer. I can't imagine The Sims being worth anything.

Can't imagine Banjo-Tooie being worth much more, but still.

So it's 213 to 17 in favor of MGS2 by the Gurus. That does not bode well for me at all. I really don't think MGS2 will win though and I am way too far behind to bank. Oh well, this could be either awesome for me or very embarrassing.

So this is basically just who would we take, Banjo-Tooie vs. The Sims? I still think I go with the Sims on that one. I can't find any data to back up going with MGS2, and now I'm actually looking for it.

Don't bank, but don't pick SoTC either. The Guru's don't get it right every time, but MGS2 is a firm favorite, and is next to guaranteed to win. Picking against it would really be grasping at straws tbqh.

It's best to bet on Metal Gear Solid 2, if you're wanting the safe choice. You can reason a win for MGS much more easily than you can for Shadow of the Colossus, but I don't think it's as clear cut as some people think. SOTC will, at the very least, make that match close.

SotC is such a polarizing game that it will even have anti-votes. It's a niche game as well, and if I were hochi I would call it "hipster." MGS2 is a good installment in a beloved series. Everything seems in favor of MGS2.

I don't see how this match is under discussion, really. It'll be interesting to be shown I'm wrong, though. PM:TTYD vs. Oblivion seems like the next tough match to call, and in my mind is the only remaining difficult call in the second round.

MGS2 just feels a lot safer. I'd feel weird banking on a cult game like SotC, and blowing out a game that I can't imagine this site likes at all doesn't make it look much better.

It's the least popular game in the series, and it still got a 7 seed. It's not a game that's hated to the point of being anti-voted by its own fan base. Just enough to not necessarily get the nomination from its fans like MGS3 and 4 would be.

That's true, but it's not loved enough either that fans of MGS 3 or 4 will vote for it over another decently popular (even if it is a niche) game.

By the way, I can already see what the outcome of this will be. I'm gonna switch to MGS2 at the last second (which I just checked and actually picked in my bracket) and then SotC will win.

if you believe in it, go for it. one cool thing about the battle contest is that you can wipe everyone out with one upset pick.

but know that your chances of being correct are probably lower.

That would take up too many posts to post the huge backlog of charts. You would be better off hosting all of your trend charts on Google Spreadsheets (which I heavily use myself), and then posting the spreadsheet link in this topic.

Eh, Mass Effect could still have this. Let's face it,, FFXII is garbage one on one. It's the most hated Final Fantasy to the point where not only do very few FF fans like it, if they do like it it will never be that much. We've known this since it struggled with a none-too-popular PSP game last round, Black Haired Cloud or not.

Well my last change to get into leaderboard died.2 wrong matches in a row,first time in this contest and both on 2nd roung?Man why Portal is so strong?I mean if MW can barely beat Dissidia how can a FPS that hasn't multiplayer beats a main FF title?I don't get it.

Portal didn't need multi-player to be innovative, fun, or tell a great story. Besides, its sequel is adding a co-op mode and will be significantly longer, so you have a reason to give the series a second chance now.
