The
geolocation stuff matters very little. A big big geolocation shift
gives you like a 0.5% shift. Insignificant compared to time trends. I don't know that I agree that trend projections make matches less fun. Take this match for example- nobody had a solid projection all day. We swung from "P4 has this" in the first hour to "DR has this" and now back again. --- Nominate Crono so he can get a higher seed and avoid being fed to Clinkeroth early in the contest. |

I'm confused...you want people to calm down, and at the same time you wish people got more excited? I think Ulti is saying he wishes we'd be excited because we genuinely have no idea what's coming, not excited because we see an update, connect it to trends, and make sweeping declarations about the entire match from it. I think both have their advantages, with how it is now, it makes the trend defying comebacks much more fun than because otherwise we'd have no expectations for them to "defy." --- xp1337: Don't you wish there was a spell-checker that told you when you a word out? And
the apex of contests was 2002 to Spring 2004, definitely, but I think
that's mostly because contests were new back then (and because we had
proper matches between strong entrants). We've had 1 proper contest
since 2006: the 1v1 character contest this year. All the others were

knew before Dead Rising even started coming back that it would lose
because California favored Persona and the match was close enough for
DR not to get too far ahead. That's a problem. California was also favoring Fable before the ASV. It turned to Team Fortress 2 by the match's end. |

Yeah,
I wouldn't say the "problem" is the interval of the updates. It's that
we just have so much information now that it's simply too easy to
analyze every single angle and leave that much less unknown. It doesn't
matter if we had instant-updates or 15 minute updates with how much

DR not to get too far ahead. That's a problem. California defied trends today, by increasing its Persona percentage with the ASV. Had it followed the rest of the US in having DR move up with the ASV, Persona's measly pre-ASV 51% in California would have been wiped out, and it wouldn't have stopped DR's ASV and geolocation trends. --- Nominate Crono so he can get a higher seed and avoid being fed to Clinkeroth early in the contest. |

wonder if Bacon would consider a week-long, 16-entrant character
contest (use characters with roughly comparable strength) without a
single update. Blank results from the opening vote until the 12-hour

would be awful. I like 5-minute updates and 15-minute updates about
equally. I'd probably favor the 5-minute updates except for the

don't think it's change results much. Stuff like CT and MGS might be
hurt as they can't pull off their rallies at the end, while Mario would
probably escape unscathed as his people would rally anyway despite not
knowing the score. Link probably gets stronger as people are unable to
check the results to see whether they can give someone else a pity vote
