where did the GTA3 > all hype come from? it's never really been that way. I assume it's because it didn't get embarrassed like SA or VC did? that says more about Half-Life 2 than GTA3 for me and I'm pretty concerned about the God of War match, let alone the Prime match which to me has a clear favourite now (Prime).

I think GTA3 could look better this contest than any other GTA-game because of what it's done for this decade...but I don't really think it matters; GTA's still GTA. I also hate using that argument for other contests, so I'm not gonna get hung up on the idea. HL2's never really been safe in its path to the Elite Eight (or further), so nothing's changed. GoW's still a threat, though I don't see it beating a GTA-game like HL2 did either; it barely beat GTA:SA last year, we don't know much about L4D, and it's not like it made some big turn-around on ToS aside from turning a close loss into a close victory.

MP's the biggest threat for HL2, and I'm keeping HL2 for my pick right now.

Unless you think RE4 wins (or finishes in second behind Brawl) the contest or somehow know where Golden Sun ranks I would disagree.

If GTA3 somehow ends up being the strongest out of the three I'm blaming the name of the contest. Then again Half-Life 2 does get its fair share of mention when it comes to discussing the Game of the Decade.

Why are people under the impression that Metroid Prime is a strong game and that it's the favorite against HL2? What has MP done? Beat up on a couple of weak games (DMC3 is awful). It's done nothing to deserve favorite status.

Probably because we have a hard time seeing GTA3 as the strongest game and when 3/4 games of the series flopped it's likely that the fourth one would as well which means bad things for HL2.

Then again I would've took LBP > Dead Space and Silent Hill 2 before the contest.

I can definitely see why this means bad things for HL2 but I need to see MP assert itself as the favorite before I start to call it that. To me, it's still the game that lost to Vice City and got creamed by KH. It's done nothing but disappoint in every poll it's been in.

Well, this definitely looks less impressive from the 70% it had at the end of the Power Hour. Still, a doubling surpassed my expectations and I think its a good performance for RE4. Enough to take on FFX? Well, that's something else, but I don't think its out of the question.

Analysis

Somehow we ended up with a fodder four-pack and one of these two games is going to make the third round. I could list a bunch of games that lost in the first round that could win this four-pack, but in the end it’s all about getting your fans to nominate you enough to get a decent seed and hope you get lucky. Sadly I’m getting this match wrong no matter who wins since I had The World Ends With You winning this match. You’d think I would side with Dead Rising in order to show that my pick wasn’t crazy, but I’m currently siding with Persona 4.

The main reason why a lot of people seem to think Dead Rising has a chance is that the match is going to be during the day. Last round it was until morning before Dead Rising really began to pull away getting 54% of the vote on the last hour. Persona 4 on the hand seems to have a terrible day vote with the little information that we know. I guess the main question is whether or not we would take Persona 4 to get roughly 55% on TWEWY which should be more than enough to defeat Dead Rising.

I must sound like a broken record be now, but should Persona 4 be stronger than Persona 3 then I feel that it won’t have too much of a problem winning. Dead Rising has never looked good in polls and I find it hard to believe that the game would break 30% on Final Fantasy IX and if it does it would just barely which I feel won’t be enough to win over Persona 4.

Of course if Persona 4 is indeed weaker which is possible considering that it only got 20% on Brawl last contest Dead Rising should have an easier time winning this match then it did last round. Persona 4 may have had a decent performance last round, but Braid is a downloadable game that isn’t Mega Man which should be enough to say that the game is weak.

Hmm, last night I thought VC could push 33% but wouldn't break the doubling. Looks like it could break 35% in a 24 hour match.

The Power Hour against FFX is going to be ugly. FFX will swing it huge.

Tranny, lots of people were saying GTA3 might be the strongest before the contest. That's not a new theory. But they were always presumed close.

I don't think GoW is a threat to HL2. But I favor Prime slightly in a day match especially. HL2 is a night game.

Pretty funny to see RE4 bleed during the entire night. And good for my oracle too. Just 1.5% less and I'm right in line for a top 5.
Anyways, RE4 being over 10% less popular in Europe is quite interesting. I think this match just ended the RE4>FFX bandwagon.

Well GTAIII was the only one to roll a night match (not to mention a day match against an opponent with a terrible ASV), so perhaps it only makes sense for it not to get embarassed. Either way, I think Prime will probably win with like 51% of the vote now, perhaps only because it's a day match.

From what I remember GTAIII is supposed to be stronger than Okami so if Prime does noticably (spelling?) worse we know that it knocks itself out of contention. Prime/Okami could probably also be used to gauge MGS2/SotC, since I think Prime is only a little weaker than MGS2 at worst while the same could be said of SotC with Okami.

Other M was released during the nomination period, right? I honestly think that's most of the reason why Prime is a 1 seed. Either way I think the game's deserving of GotD now, if only because the game popularized the "shooter that's not really so much about shooting". As I said when I actually played the game last its few flaws were certainly noticable.

I think the Persona argument comes down to consoles > handhelds, so Persona is stronger than TWEWY, which means it wins. I am not convinced that Persona is really stronger than TWEWY, and I'm sticking with Dead Rising in my battle. I don't have any confidence in that pcik though.
