SFF (Same Fanbase Factor) - Same Fanbase Factor is the theory that, if two contestants share a common fanbase, the weaker of the two options will underperform in a direct matchup. For instance, Link was expected to defeat Ganon with 65% of the vote in 2004, based on their 2003 values. Instead, Link collected near 88% of the vote. This is the best example of SFF we've ever seen. However take some SFF labels with a grain of salt, as many people will slap it onto any match that doesn't make perfect sense.

Extrapolated Standings - The mathematical "strength" of a contestant that's determined based on their performance relative to the rest of the field. This number is typically based on the contest entrant's loss, but adjustments are sometimes made. See above for a watered down explanation for how the stats are calculated.

Noble Nine - Link, Cloud, Solid Snake, Sephiroth, Mario, Crono, Sonic, Samus and Mega Man.

Based off SA/GoW/ToS/Oblivion and SA/GS Golden Sun looks to be slightly stronger than Oblivion. This means that it could probably get about 45% on MGS3, and should get into the high 30s against FFX.

I had TWEWY winning that four-pack and expected P4 to beat Braid a little worse, so I favor DR...but not enough to not bank. Portal looks like the favorite from most angles, but by no means should it be a blow-out or guarantee it wins.

Analysis

Final Fantasy IX has another chance at breaking 70%, I guess this is the contest being nice to it since it got fed to Final Fantasy VIII in the previous contest. Persona 3 may have won the match that no one cared about, but that doesn’t mean that the game is strong. Oddly enough despite getting 8 matches wrong in the first round Persona 3 dealt one of the biggest wins, goes to show you that most of the close matches didn’t go my way.

I think the major debate is which Persona game is stronger. While Persona 3 was released at the end of the Playstation 2’s lifespan Persona 4 was released when the console was pretty much dead. At the same time Persona 4 was the more popular game selling more copies despite being released so late and it was more popular among fans. Persona 3 does have the advantage of having more releases, but one of them was right back on the Playstation 2 as an expansion while the other was on the PSP. Had Persona 3 been released on the Playstation 3 I may take it over Persona 4, but right now I expect Persona 4 to be the stronger game.

Final Fantasy IX has a great chance at breaking 70%, even if it was against Persona 4. While the series has strength to defeat extremely weak opponents overall the series is also very weak. Before coming face to face with Final Fantasy VIII Final Fantasy IX did have a good performance in the first round suggesting that the game does have decent strength.

KOTOR probably ends up looking amazing next round due to the ridiculous day vote discrepancy between it and FFIX. Then FFX happens and it ends up looking bad in the stats anyway.
