I expected this from FFX. It has been the outcast FF since it was released. It never stood a chance in this contest.

And saying GTA can't win a close match is one of the reasons why 2/3 of the board got burned by taking SMS > Halo 3.

San Andreas/Golden sun isn't exactly going to be a vote magnet. Maybe 47k votes max? The votals can be so pathetic that a fracture of the first day buyers (like say, 45-50k first day and 1/10 come to the site through here or gamespot) can heavily influence the match.

I still expect San Andreas to cruise, but hey.

That's silly. Everyone's opinions of Symphonia were rock-bottom until it actually had a match. Now we're doubting Golden Sun in the same fashion because...I don't know why. It's got as much going for it as Symphonia did, if not more.

I can't remember your exact reasons, but I do remember they were pretty generic and that you could say the same about any unknown game.

They were based on poll results and conjecture. Not perfect, but the potential was there.

Now Golden Sun actually has a match, greatly exceeds expectations, and people are still trying to doubt it as much as possible? This is a classic mental block at work.

Well, FFX's doing pretty damn well today.
It's starting to get closer to 70%. Better than I thought actually. That clearly puts it close Twilight's tier.
It it continues to go up, dare I say favorably.

I don't feel confident at all, especially after charmander's great analysis, but I'm sticking with Golden Sun. I've stuck with this upset since before the contest, and can't convince myself to change it now. 50,000+ battle points at risk, this match will be the one that makes or breaks me.

Yes and if you check the battle challenge, you'll see 214 bracket exactly the same. They're all Luster. And most of the normal leaderboard is also Luster.

I'm rooting for San Andreas since I care a lot more about my bracket/Guru than the Battle Contest, but I still think Golden Sun will take it. That picture, man. No matter how serious you wanna be about it, that is monster pic advantage on this site.

I think San Andreas does notably better in polls that don't feature a picture. In both of those Game of the Decade polls, it got about 44% on RE4. Good luck hitting that percentage in a contest match.

I agree with that, yoblazer.

It probably has less to do with RacistFAQs and more due to the fact that virtually no one who plays video games likes the gangster lifestyle, but hey, either or. We really need to get in Barret and see what happens.

Yes, I said that already. I am in the process of switching all of my accounts over to a bank on this next match. So that means I get to bank 49600 points on the next match, which pretty much locks up the free bonus Karma for the battle challenge.

I've always gotten the sense that GTA overperforms in losses ever since the Melee match. anyone else feel this way?

I would guess that anti-voted entrants do better against better entrants, since the anti-voters will have been more likely to have voted for the other character anyway.

Because they are seriously incredible games that deserve every ounce of praise they get; at least the GTAIII trilogy does. Haven't played IV yet.

Casual bait; the same general perception that Halo and CoD have around here - which strikes me as weird, since GTA was LOVED on GameFAQs during the first half of the decade.

There's some indirect evidence too, like DK looking better in 2003 than he did in the year before and the year after, but no real smoking gun besides the match I posted and Vice City's match this year. And GTAIV's as well, I guess.

I honestly thought it would have beaten Metal Gear Solid in that 2006 series contest, and it wasn't because I suck at these things. GTA had always looked great in polls but has never really amounted to that potential in contest matches, especially since the CJ loss.
