I'm not sure that Kingdom Hearts set the same kind of standard that Halo or Final Fantasy X or Melee set. It got a significant amount of backlash, both for the Disney + Square concept, as well as for its controls; a lot of people really hate the way the game plays, and it has a lot of that gag-inducing overoptimism JRPGs are known for.

In comparison, KHII had a much more mature tone and setting, feels more like a real Final Fantasy game than Disney fanfiction, and cleaned up a whole lot of problems the original had. If you look at future Kingdom Hearts games (358/2 Days, Birth By Sleep), you'll notice that they follow the formula set by KHII a lot more than the original. For a lot of people, Kingdom Hearts was the flawed first attempt, and KHII was the perfection of the formula, which is way different than Halo 3, which was just a technical improvement of the original. I'd say it's more comparable to Resident Evil 4, in that it took a flawed series and revitalized it.

I'm sorry, but how in the hell is Kingdom Hearts II ahead of Bioshock? Bioshock is a superior game in basically every respect. Visually, even taking the system gap into account, Bioshock is far more arresting to look at than KHII's flat landscapes. Bioshock's shooting is a hell of a lot more competent than the button mashing in KHII. Bioshock's narrative is infinitely more rewarding than KHII's. I don't hate KHII, but placing it over a work of art like Bioshock is just criminal.

I also wish they threw the KH games in with Wind Waker or Fallout 3 or something. I think both are a bit more powerful than Bioshock, so it'd be a good match having KH2/WW and KH1/FO3, for instance.

I was thinking which games could be the rest of the top 25 but I couldn't really get there. I'd take Shadow of the Colossus over both Call of Duty 4 and Halo 1 by now, but against Vice City and San Andreas I'm not so sure.

Analysis

I think last round said everything that needs to be said. Despite winning GotY Modern Warfare 2’s strength seems to have been short-lived from fans realizing that it isn’t the best thing ever to GameFAQs not liking the series as much as they did last year. We can’t blame everything on Modern Warfare 2; I believe Dissidia is a lot stronger than what the GotY poll suggests from voters not seeing the game as GotY material to apathetic Final Fantasy fans having fewer options and voting for it.

While the debate between which Kingdom Hearts game is stronger continues I don’t see this match answering many questions. While we expect Modern Warfare 2 to be weaker it is not a guarantee how much weaker it could have gotten. I know a lot of people keep bring up that GameFAQs doesn’t care about the PSP, but if there was a game that the site cared about it would be Dissidia.

Still Kingdom Hearts finished pretty close to Final Fantasy X in the previous contest and even if the game could be slightly weaker this contest it should still be too high for Modern Warfare 2 to make a match out of this. Kingdom Hearts shouldn’t have a problem sailing over 60% though if it wants to look ready to take on its sequel I would feel better about it if it won by more than what Kingdom Hearts II did, especially considering it has a night match while this one has the day.

KH2 over MGS4 isn't that absurd. If you think KH2's 2nd round performance last contest was legit and MGS4 has dropped since last contest (and/or that Brawl + RE4 being GameCube affected TP more than RE4 being mature affected MGS4), then KH2 beating MGS4 wouldn't exactly be a Knuckles/Magus-type upset.

I think the last day spells more doom for Uncharted than it does for KHII. It's not getting past Halo; just about every 2009 game barring maybe RE5 has proven to be balls.
