SFF (Same Fanbase Factor) - Same Fanbase Factor is the theory that, if two contestants share a common fanbase, the weaker of the two options will underperform in a direct matchup. For instance, Link was expected to defeat Ganon with 65% of the vote in 2004, based on their 2003 values. Instead, Link collected near 88% of the vote. This is the best example of SFF we've ever seen. However take some SFF labels with a grain of salt, as many people will slap it onto any match that doesn't make perfect sense.

Extrapolated Standings - The mathematical "strength" of a contestant that's determined based on their performance relative to the rest of the field. This number is typically based on the contest entrant's loss, but adjustments are sometimes made. See above for a watered down explanation for how the stats are calculated.

Noble Nine - Link, Cloud, Solid Snake, Sephiroth, Mario, Crono, Sonic, Samus and Mega Man.

Oh I remember that in the series contest, I only missed 2 matches in the whole contest and they were both round 1 matches. (Halo vs Castlevania and Mega Man vs Mario Kart)
And I STILL didn't end up on the leaderboard.

Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum – 55.04%
Metroid Fusion – 44.96%

WWF No Mercy – 28.27%
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance – 71.73%

Analysis

Despite crushing the guru choice and making a fool out of 40% of the board people are expecting Pokemon DPP to have an easier time against Path of Radiance this round than it did against Metroid Fusion in the round before. WWF No Mercy really is that weak and it may end up being one of the weakest games in the entire bracket.

I never really thought that Metroid Fusion would have that much strength given the performances of Metroid Prime and Super Metroid in previous contests and yet it almost got 45% on Pokemon DPP and finished pretty close to Resident Evil 5 in the vote-in. Some people have argued that Pokemon DPP is weaker this contest, but I disagree. Since 2009 Pokemon has gotten even bigger and Platinum was released during that time. The only reason to think it would be weaker is if you think casual Pokemon fans have moved on to HeartGold/SoulSilver or Black/White, which has only been released in Japan.

Some people have been inflating Path of Radiance’s percent due to its massive win last year, but Pokemon DPP should have no problem getting 60% in this match. All last round showed is that any game can blow out another game should it be weak enough. I don’t see SFF being added in the mix since Pokemon titles and console games tend to be a bit separate.

So when do the matches become 24 hours? or is it just the FINAL? Also what do you think the Bonus contest should be? I would like to see FFVII/OoT again though i don't think other people would.

There can't be a bonus match because the last match of the contest is on December 23rd, so there would have to be a "What did you think of the Game of the Decade contest?" on December 24th in order to avoid the lack of a Christmas Day poll. There is a way that there could be a bonus match and that would be for the bonus match to last for 12 hours (a night match) while the "What did you think of the Game of the Decade contest?" poll is a day poll.

I guess the site doesn't realize how strong Smash is. That makes sense- Melee made the final four a long long time ago and lost in the quarterfinals last year. Its impressive showings are things the casual observer, who just sees that Zelda and FF are always in the final, could miss.

Nice bracket support for CoD4. It doesn't have higher bracket support than SSBM does it? The -4s all go perfect and the other high tiers also do quite well. More or less a normal match.

4 people fell off the top 50. MercenaryXL, DBZUnicorn, ChainsawLU and nobody_org_com did not have CoD4 winning.

I'm not sure there's any real consensus on which is stronger. I'm in the FE9 camp, and I feel pretty good about it, but I'd never claim it wasn't debated.

At the 10 minute mark, No Mercy currently has 19.20% on DPP. That's pretty bad. No Mercy appears to be weaker than Wii Sports here.

Quite possible, though before this contest the only reading we had on PoR was from a Game of the Year poll, and we had absolutely nothing on No Mercy, so this is the first match where we have anything solid on PoR's actual strength.

Personally I would guess, indirectly at least, it goes PoR with Ike picture > FE7 > PoR without Ike picture

SMG should still be winning tomorrow, right? I'm pretty confident with picking SMG, but I just want to make sure I don't lose my battle streak on an easy match like that. I have enough problems with having to figure out GS/SA and Portal/FF12.
