~*Say What? Common Stats Topic Lingo Defined*~

SFF (Same Fanbase Factor) - Same Fanbase Factor is the theory that, if two contestants share a common fanbase, the weaker of the two options will underperform in a direct matchup. For instance, Link was expected to defeat Ganon with 65% of the vote in 2004, based on their 2003 values. Instead, Link collected near 88% of the vote. This is the best example of SFF we've ever seen. However take some SFF labels with a grain of salt, as many people will slap it onto any match that doesn't make perfect sense.

Extrapolated Standings - The mathematical "strength" of a contestant that's determined based on their performance relative to the rest of the field. This number is typically based on the contest entrant's loss, but adjustments are sometimes made. See above for a watered down explanation for how the stats are calculated.

Noble Nine - Link, Cloud, Solid Snake, Sephiroth, Mario, Crono, Sonic, Samus and Mega Man.

Wii has the two strongest exclusives of the gen by a really wide margin, though we've always known that.

Brawl, definitely. Twilight Princess isn't really exclusive, and I'm not convinced it would beat MGS4 by a "really wide margin". Super Mario Galaxy? I wish!

PS3 exclusives are this year's version of the Winter 2010 first round Sonic Team panic. Relax. Uncharted 2 is probably still making the divisional final, and Assassin's Creed is probably a strong game.

So yesterday's match showed that Metroid Prime is apparently stronger than Halo...this would place it on StarCraft's level I guess. Today's match is demonstrating that Okami will have no chance at Prime and will likely be 60-40'd.

Also if you extrapolate off of last contest you get Silent Hill 2 > Devil May Cry 3...hahahaha no. So Prime is guaranteed to be stronger than Vice City. Also I guess this means...that Half-Life is stronger than Devil May Cry 3? Wowzers.

Metroid Prime/Super Mario Galaxy could actually be a pretty cool match. I'd go with Mario, myself, though anything could happen.

Mega Man 9/Okami: the best match picture of the contest.

Prime's beatdown also makes me feel more comfortable about Galaxy > RSE, since for that to happen you'd need RSE to be much stronger than DMC3 and/or Galaxy to be much weaker than Prime, and neither is likely.

GTA3 is weaker than GTA:VC and GTA:SA, right? That's what the previous game contest seems to suggest... I mean, GTA3 hung with KOTOR and Halo, while GTA:VC edged out an leeched MP and GTA:SA hung with God of War and ESIV (which is just a bit under MGS3).

A fact that some might not know: Oblivion just did a tiny bit worse than HL2 taking direct matches against Zelda: Twilight Princess from the previous contest. (51/49 expected win for HL2) Of course, the Oblivion match is somewhat fishy, but any corrections would make Oblivion look stronger.

It would. TP murdered MGS3 last year, and MGS4 could only beat TP by 3.5% with both Brawl and Resident Evil 4 holding it back. Needless to say, if Twilight Princess met MGS4 one on one it would win easily. MGS4 vs. Galaxy would be a good match though.

Keep deluding yourselves guys. MGS4 would likely push for a doubling on Galaxy, which is stupid since MGS4 shouldn't even be winning that (though 2 and 3 are fine candidates for winning).

I thought that this match proved that Devil May Cry 3 was weaker than the original, but it simply proves that Metroid Prime is on StarCraft's level. Hey wait...rank these games in order of strength!

Twilight Princess received the bulk of its hype as a GameCube game, but it instantly became known as a Wii game when we learned it would act as that console's launch killer app. Its attach rate during the Wii's first holiday season was so ridiculous - something like 80%+. It's a Wii game.

Don't underestimate Galaxy. BG&E beat Total War by more than Shenmue did in the Sega poll. It's probably stronger and Galaxy only did worse on BG&E than TP did on Shenmue. Not the most accurate stats in the world but BG&E>Shenmue is fairly logical anyway. Even if we assume that they're equal Galaxy is still at 47% on Twilight Princess-a fair bit higher than MGS3 and presumably, MGS4.

MGS4 could take it but Galaxy looks stronger right now. However, MGS4 failed to double Assassin's Creed by a fair bit. Saying it would push for a doubling on Galaxy is outright stupid.

Also something like 85% of its sales were the Wii version. Gamecube version sold well too, but was a tiny minority of the sales.

Hell, not only is TP best known for its Wii version it was even the Wii's first Killer App.

I consider TP a Wii game. I played it on the Wii. I've never played it on the Gamecube. It was released the same time as the Gamecube version. I don't see the comparison.

I'm beginning to think about banking. ToS did win this match last year after all, so I can't be too confident in God of War. On the other hand, banking 17000 or so here to get to 30000 here pretty much requires me to get a 50+ streak later just to have a chance, so I'll probably have to take the risk.

I personally felt like it was a little bit better than I had expected.

For GoW to win this match, it simply has to be stronger than GoW2. Because GoW2 managed to break 60% on RE5 here:

GoW is probably stronger than GoW2 as GoW got in normally while GoW2 needed a vote-in. And even if GoW is slightly weaker than GoW2, it could still beat ToS.

Popular at school, but not as cool as Dr_Football, Guru Champ!

Thing is we never seen GoW2 before. Most people expected it to be weaker than the original.

If anything I feel better about GoW because GoW2 won over RE5 by more than ToS and it just proved that it is likely to be weaker than GoW by getting crushed by WW.

A refusal of praise is a desire to be praised twice.

God of War is still light years ahead of the other action games (DMC, Ninja Gaiden), and well ahead of other Western series like Gears as well. We all just forgot what a legit Zelda game would do to these recent Western titles. The answer, of course, is bad things. I actually think GoW2 did an alright job to finish at 36% and avoid the complete obliteration.

Basically, I'm not feeling too worried about old Angry McScreamface tonight.

by 'board vote' I mean those first 10-15 minutes, not the immediate vote. Tales was at 57% and dropped off damn fast while GOW2 couldn't even break 30%.

GOW is a favourite here, but a lot of people will remember TOS winning last year and go that route, not to mention higher seed. I expect it to be a lot more even sitewide.

The more I think about, the more I think that a Jak and Daxter game really deserves to be in the contest. All of them were great platformers and Jak 2 was really innovative. At least be in over some ****y game like Infamous.
